Intervista al personaggio

Oltre 100 domande per aiutarti a intervistare il tuo personaggio

Quanto conosci i tuoi personaggi? Come il palmo della tua mano, dici? Conosci il colore degli occhi del tuo eroe? Sai dove è andato a scuola il cattivo? Conosci il momento più imbarazzante della tua eroina? Puoi snocciolare un elenco delle idiosincrasie del tuo personaggio principale? Espressioni tipiche? Storia romantica?

Se una di queste domande ti ha fatto rimuginare per una risposta, allora stai perdendo un'ottima opportunità per approfondire i tuoi personaggi ed espandere la tua storia. Nel corso degli anni, uno degli strumenti più utili in cui mi sono imbattuto è l' intervista al personaggio. La mia lista è iniziata con una ventina di domande di base riguardanti l'aspetto fisico e i problemi di personalità. Ora contiene oltre cinquanta domande precise e penetranti, progettate per far fluire i miei succhi cerebrali e far parlare i miei personaggi.

L'altro sistema si basa sulla costruzione dell'arco di vita del personaggio tramite gli Arcani Maggiori dei Tarocchi (sarà argomento di un articolo futuro).

Intervistare i tuoi personaggi può diventare una parte vitale del tuo processo di preparazione e progettazione. Spesso riempio mezzo quaderno con le risposte narrative alle domande più impegnative sulle relazioni, le credenze e i segreti dei miei personaggi. Faccio costantemente riferimento a queste liste durante tutto il processo di scrittura, non solo per trarre ispirazione sul momento, ma anche per verificare i fatti (Quanti anni aveva quando sua madre è morta? Si è rotto la gamba sinistra o la destra in quell'incidente d'auto? ).

La sua lista è molto completa, io sono pigro e non vado spesso così nel dettaglio ma alle volte, anche solo leggendo l'elenco possono uscire idee interessanti.

Altre opzioni per intervistare i tuoi personaggi

Potresti anche tenere a mente molte altre tecniche utili, tra cui l' Enneagramma, un test della personalità che allinea i tratti caratteriali a una delle nove categorie e delinea i punti di forza e i difetti. Non solo è una lettura interessante, ma può anche aiutare a completare un personaggio e riassumere la sua personalità. Qualcosa che ho trovato particolarmente utile è il 'difetto fatale' che accompagna ogni personalità che può diventare direttamente il difetto fatale del personaggio con poche o nessun cambiamento.

Se dovessi imbatterti in un personaggio taciturno che si 'rifiuta' di farti entrare nella sua psiche più profonda, prova un 'intervista a mano libera'.

Invece di costringere il tuo personaggio alla rigidità delle domande prefissate in un'intervista regolare, gettalo sulla pagina e inizia a fargli domande: cosa ti succede? Cosa mi nascondi? Sarai sorpreso di quello che puoi trascinare fuori dai tuoi personaggi usando questo metodo.

Tutti e tre questi strumenti, usati insieme, possono fare miracoli nell'infrangere i muri tra autore e personaggio e costringere i tuoi personaggi a rivelare le loro viscere e rivelare le loro motivazioni più profonde. Inoltre, è molto divertente!
