HEAD-CANON: Sadly, Luke did not attend the Lycaon Potluck. He had taken off a few weeks before, but thanks to an influx of flu cases on the force, Luke ended up having to fill in. Thankfully a few of his buddies that were able to attend brought him a couple of To-Go plates for him to indulge in when his shift was over.

Luke could only nod in that moment, unsure how to reply. He at least felt validated that he wasn't the only one still struggling with the death of Percy. After the funeral Luke found himself in his own slump, barely wanting to leave the house, let alone socialize. Seeing that Eli was starting to come around, gave Luke some hope, only realizing now that he was making his own progress moving on. "I know what you mean. After I got back my memories from that alternate universe crap I would catch myself, you know, just- wanting to reach out to her out of habit. Wondering why she wasn't walking through the door yet, or making sure she was okay all the time, but I had to stop myself," he gestured with his hand reaching out as he spoke solemnly, letting his arm drop to his side. "Wish I could tell you it gets easier..." he added, "Booze helps."
Luke was Matthew's protege which made him reluctant to share his feelings. Then again, Elijah's condition had been clear enough these past few months to anyone who had even glanced at him and Luke seemed to be sincere. "I'm holding up." He answered with a small humorless smile. "I was depressed for a while after the funeral. Obviously I've managed to get out in public now, but I still keep thinking that I'm going to walk into a room and see her there, or wanting to tell her something. I was used to her being in my life and now..." He didn't need to finish that sentence

Who: Luke x Katya ( @thsndsptlghts ) Where: Outside Rubicund When: Approx 12:30 AM
Luke pulled another cigarette from his inner coat pocket as he finished his last rounds for the night. Normally he'd be home by now, but shortages at the precinct lately due to some still on holiday left him filling in an extra few hours. He was beat, but he didn't mind it much. It gave him time to think, and maybe even kick some ass occasionally. As he filled out his last patrol card and placed it on the back door of a pizza place, he put his notebook back in his pocket ant continued to his squad car. He rounded a few back alleys as a shortcut to his squad car, not realizing he was near the Rubicund until someone came out of the side entrance.
Luke's face was a mixture of anger and confusion as his brain registered, with utter disbelief, at the woman standing before him. His nostrils flared as he took in an unfamiliar scent, one he would have never thought would ever accompany her. The demon stood there in disbelief, unable to find words, as he took a comforting drag of his cigarette.

Luke had been coming to this little hole-in-the-wall coffee shop for years. Although it didn't look like much, their coffee was some of the best Luke had ever had in all his centuries on this Earth. And their baked goods? Luke's weakness. He didn't care if it was out of the way or always took a while, this place was sacred to him. The demon had been so fond of it, he'd repaired a few of the odds and ends around the shop to help them out. He'd even offered to remodel the shop at no cost to the family that owned it, but they always denied it, saying they liked it's charm.
Casually walking up from his cruiser, Luke already tasting the raspberry cream cheese Danish and coffee combo, when he'd opened the door a bit too forcefully. "Ooo shit," Luke let with out a scrunch of his face, a grimace of second-hand embarrassment. Luke resisted the nervous chuckle that escaped his lips as he could see how pissed the woman was. "That was totally my bad, miss. I-... yea, fuck, i'm sorry," he let out as he began grabbing napkins from a nearby table.
Tumblr media
Checking her watch for a third time, Daphne sighed. Truly it wasn't the baristas fault that the shop was understaffed nor was it their fault that everyone's order this morning read more like a grocery list than a coffee order. Still it should not take fifteen minutes to get a medium coffee with cream and sugar. Apparently she wasn't the only one getting impatient judging by the grumbles of the patrons around her. She tapped her foot, almost ready to simply walk out when her name was called.
With a smile, she thanked the barista, grabbing her cup and heading out the door. That first morning sip always felt heavenly. Her free hand grabbed for the door when it swung open, knocking into the cup in her hand, sending the lid flying as the coffee spilled all over her. She hissed, shaking it off as she looked up at the person who just entered.

Luke couldn't help but sigh. Despite being by Matt's side, Luke still had a hard time believing Matt at times. The elder demon was more of a master at manipulation and debonair than Luke had ever seen, and his only hope was that Matt wasn't using those powers on him. He took another sip as he contemplated his strategy. "I don't know man. All I know is that someone I really care about is dead and I know the elders had something to do with it," he added, the anger he attempted to swallow down beginning to bubble from his words. "You're telling me you played no part in Percy's death? Or didn't have knowledge that it was going to happen?" he let out, finding it hard to look at Matthew.
The look of mild curiosity on Matthew's face melted into something more concerned when he saw the way Luke's expression turned into something else. In all the time they had known each other, the fallen deity liked to think that he knew this man inside out by now and that Luke knew him in turn, but this evident grief and the not-so-subtle accusation on the other demon's face froze Matthew to the spot.
"What? Why would I have done anything to her? I'd have nothing to gain from it," he said and had to wonder how Luke had come to such a conclusion, especially when it appeared to be hurting him so much. Matthew needed to get to the bottom of this. "Why do you even care about her?"

Luke's features clashed between concern and anger, as he regarded Gabriel. He could sense that whatever was driving his bloodlust and frenzy was gone, his soul beginning to lose the stink of vampire as it returned to human. The demon continued to use his powers to scan the surrounding and Gabriel, making sure that whatever had caused this was no longer a threat. Luke moved closer to Gabe as he gripped his shoulders, looking into his eyes to watch the pupils shrink to normal. "Hey man, don't sweat it alright. These kinds of things are known for their crazy party tricks. That's on me for not prepping you better." He added before letting Gabriel go. "You're gonna be alright. Nothing some grub and beer won't fit, alright?" He wanted his voice to come out as confidently as possible to show Gabe he had nothing to worry about, despite the seething that raged behind Luke's eyes. Even though Gabe had corrected himself, Luke was still able to make out the name that had done this to his protege, and if Teddy continued to mess with Gabe, Luke knew vampire heard's were gonna roll. "I know you wouldn't, buddy. I'm just glad it was me you hulked out on and not somebody else. Really man, it's fine. Let's go grab a beer and forget this ever happened?"
Tumblr media
The world felt dark and quiet. The smells were gone, the noise of the crowd, the thirst -- all gone. What remained was a dark hole of guilt and fear that he saw mirrored in his mentor's eyes. Gabe took a trembling breath to calm his racing heart, and he felt tears build up behind his eyes. He could tell by Luke's positioning that he was watching him, ready to stop Gabe if he would attack again. And even his assurance didn't quite ring true to Gabe's ears.
"I- I'm not sure," he started, then quickly raised his hands assuringly, "It's over now though, I promise. I wasn't bitten, it was something else. But it was temporary." Gabe swallowed, not feeling as sure as he sounded. "Ted- uh, I heard there were some spells going around. I got jinxed. Just some asshole having a laugh." His eyes were pained as he searched Luke's, he wanted to take it all back, he wanted Luke to reach out to him and say everything would be fine. "I didn't mean for this to happen. I would never-," he couldn't finish the sentence, the words burning his throat more than the blood-thirst had done.

“Lucky me, indeed,” Luke replied, attempting a smirk as he made his way over to Matt’s Bar. Luke sucked on his bottom lip as he poured himself a much needed drink as he tried to think of the best way to bring it up. He could hear a voice in his head telling him to abandon this crusade, unsure if he could really handle whatever truth came of it. His and Matthew’s relationship had been rocky since the alternate timeline, and he hoped that this next conversation wouldn’t drive that wedge further.
He sipped on the expensive Bourbon from his glass, allowing the burn to assist him in procrastinating the subject. Finally, the younger demon met the elder’s eyes, his own reflecting empty pools of grief. “I… I need to know if you knew…” he strained to get out, the words painful as they left his lips. “I need to know if you played a part in what happened to Percy…” he trailed off, holding a breath he didn’t even need as he awaited Matt’s answer.
Seeing the text light up his screen, Luke let out a sigh. A part of him had hoped that he'd be too busy to speak with Luke, curing the fact that Matt usually always made time for Luke he was extremely busy. He stood from his spot on his couch, straightening his clothes a bit before summoning the shadows he needed for a portal. Stepping from his apartment and into Matt's in a blink of an eye. "Hey man," he let out, though his words lacked his usual charm and debonair. "Wasn't expecting you to be home right now. Shouldn't you be at the bar?" he asked, dancing around the real reason that he'd wanted to speak to Matt.

Luke leaned against a nearby pole as Elijah addressed him back, hands tucked deep into his coat pocket. He had a tendency to fidget when he was uncomfortable or overwhelmed, a habit his wife used to use against him constantly. He figured the question was coming, whether as a gesture of good faith or just making small talk. The young demon still didn’t know how to answer it, how to articulate the complex emotions running circles in his head. “You know, i’ve been better, been worse,” he added as nonchalantly as he could muster, kicking a rock at his feet as he spoke. “I actually wanted to, uh, check on you. See how you were holding up… you know, given the circumstances…” Luke trailed off, meeting Eli’s eyes. A part of him had avoided that eye contact up until this moment because a part of him feared he would see his own pain reflected in Eli’s, the grief for someone that was never truly his… but Eli’s.
Who: Luke x Elijah ( @eremington ) Where: Mt. Paean Town Square When: Approx 6 PM
Luke hadn't planned on showing up to the Christmas event, in fact, he'd actually made sure he was on duty to avoid it all together. Knowing that there would be so many gleeful and cheery people with their loved ones enjoying the event left a sour taste in his mouth, still struggling with the loss of Percy. She had never really been his, but it still felt as though he'd lost another loved one that he'd been unable to help. It had been eating him up inside, and although he was doing his best to work through his grief, the holidays set him back.
Much to the demon's protests, a buddy of his on the force had forgotten his wallet at the precinct and asked Luke to bring it to him. He'd tried telling him that he was too busy, but he and his buddy both knew that was a lie. Luke eventually found him in the crowd and returned the wallet to his friend, choosing to beeline it out of there rather than take his offer of several owed drinks. Just as Luke was heading towards the exit, he saw a familiar face among the crowd. Luke knew this was probably a mistake, but he found himself nearing the fellow, trying to muster something on his face that wasn't a frown or a scowl, "Hey..."

If Luke were being honest with himself, he was still gravely in denial. He continued to deflect the thoughts that she was gone, even when Percy had told him herself about what was to come- he denied it. Every morning he awoke hoping to see her beautiful, goofy face amongst the isle of books… even if she was never actually his. He’d fought the near constant urge to break her and Elijah apart every second of every day after getting his memories of the alternate timeline. Even if he were a demon, he knew what it felt like to have the woman you loved ripped away from him, and he hadn’t wished that on his worst enemy- even if it was Elijah. Now he’d be willing to watch them fall in love a thousand times over if it meant she were alive.
Luke glanced down at his phone as the text came in, the light brightening up his dark living room. Turning his attention from an HGTV marathon he’d halfway been invested in, he opened the message from Helena. The young demon stared down at it for a long time, unsure of how to respond. A part of him wanted to take her up on her offer, while the other wanted to wallow in the self-pity he’d grown comfortable with over the last few weeks. Eventually his will gave out, his fingers gliding across the screen as he sent her a reply.
“I could use a distraction. What’d you have in mind?”
Old flame, new wounds
For: @lucasxholt
Lady Crytia had heard about what'd happened to Persy a month before the rest of the city. Had known what her fate would be a month before the rest of the city. A month before Persy knew, before the Remington boy knew, and before sweet, stupid Luke knew.
She'd also known what the girl had meant to Lucas. Known that sweet anguish he felt of longing for someone whom he knew he'd never have. Her death had freed him in a way, but Lady Crytia knew the pain poor Lucas must feel now that fate had ripped away whatever futile hope for love remained within him. Things so often had to get worse before they could get better.
She figured the least she could do was give him some attention. Check in on him. Spin him around her finger and let him forget about all the pain the world outside of her promised.
So she texted him.
"Hey, love. I heard what happened with Persy. I know she meant a lot to you. I'm so sorry... Here if you want to talk, blow off some steam, or whatever."

Matthew only just realised that he had a missed call after the notification for the text popped up on screen. Given what Luke said in the text, it did not seem too dire and he responded telling him to come over whenever he was ready before moving into his kitchen to pick out some wine for the both of them. Luke was the only person in the world who had free access to his penthouse in the Hereafter by magical means and Matthew was certain that his arrival by portal would be imminent.

Pinned to the ground against Gabriel's newly vampiric strength, Luke used what control he could muster to not hurt Gabe. Given the sense of danger, his demonic strength threatened to unleash and destroy his partner but he did his best to try and at least subdue him instead. He had to give it to Gabe, he'd come close a few times to sinking his teeth into Luke, which only made him unleash even more of his strength to keep him at bay.
Eventually, he could feel the young vampire slump beside him, letting out a choked breath followed by coughs as he sat up quickly in case Gabriel got a second wind. After a few moments of catching his breath, he looked over to the younger male, seeing the pain and shame in his eyes. "It's... it's alright, man. I know it's not you. Just- tell me what the fuck happened..." He wondered in that moment if it would be wise to allow Gabriel to feed on him, even if to just ease his bloodlust for even a moment so they could talk.
The vampire snapped its jaws shut and growled in disappointment. He writhed, clawed and struggled, but the hands holding him away from his next meal were stronger. Gabriel's eyes shone red and empty. There wasn't a single sane thought behind them, all was rage and bloodlust. He tried to get closer to the pounding heart of his victim, but he felt his strength fade. The magic drained from him, leaving a growing pain in his throat and lungs. He didn't want blood anymore, he had to breath, couldn't breath. Gabe's hands went up to the hand choking him. The world darkened as his senses dimmed and his body burned through the last oxygen. He slumped against Luke's body, tumbling to the ground next to him.
"I'm sorry." The first words Gabe managed to say when he came to were quiet and filled with shame. His throat was aching, but worse than that was the sickness he felt as he was reminded of the pints of blood he'd downed earlier. He shuddered and tried not to think about that. First he had to check that he hadn't hurt his friend. "A-are you okay? Shit, Luke, I'm so sorry. I couldn't- I couldn't control it."

"I try," Luke offered, his ego growing at being praised for his play on words. Most people only rolled their eyes at his lame jokes, but Luke continued to make them out of principal, and stubbornness. His amusement turned stoic as his eyes landed back on Eri at his next words. "Dude..." he trailed off, at a loss for words. Killing someone as a deity was one thing, but order magic to cover it up? That was serious shit. "Yea... Given what I know about the yee old holy-rollers, i'd say you're coasting on borrowed time right about now. Killing someone, if it's justified, they might push it under the rug. But Order Magic? That is not something they take lightly," he added with a shake of his head, downing his shot and holding up two fingers for more.
Luke let the buzz in his head cloud his thoughts as he smirked at Eri. "Buddy, how do you think I got this way? My entire existence is based on regrets and anguish. Eventually, you just learn to either ignore it, welcome it, or let it eat you away," he shrugged, his mind going to the countless lives he'd ended over his time. "You want my advice? Own it. No point in delaying the inevitable... Although I will say drinking and fucking about it is a pretty good distraction until you get to that point," he mused with a smirk as the next shots were placed in front of them.
Eri found Luke's reaction to news of his fall to be somewhat comforting. He wasn't dropping Eri like Eri was bird shit that'd just landed in his hands like Elijah had done. He wasn't chastising him like Matt had. He was taking the news rather well, all things considered. It was healthy and good to poke fun at shit sometimes. It helped Eri feel more normal. At ease. Not that anything could make him truly feel at ease with Persy's death on his conscious, but it was a start.
"Good one." Eri snorted into his shot. "I killed someone. And then I used order magic to bring her back. To be honest, I don't think I have much time left as a free man."
He spoke quiet enough so that he couldn't be heard over the din of the bar. "I can't get her out of my head. I keep seeing her every time I close my eyes. I try to numb the pain, but it doesn't go away. Have you ever done anything like that? Something that just won't go away?"
