Very, very work in progress, and I’m honestly not sure when I’ll finish this, but It’s been so long since I’ve drawn anything so I thought I’d share it. I’ll submit it to Magicbyhalves whenever I finish it. Drawing with a tablet feels really weird so far btw, lol.

Alright, so I know @ozimul-reacts​ told me that I didn’t really have to do this, but I still wanted to see what the @magicbyhalves logo I made a few years ago would look like with the official Shantae font since it was discovered a few months back. 

Took a while for me to get around to actually doing this since I’ve been heavily focused on pixel art lately. 😅 I made a lot of small improvements to it since then as well. Pretty happy with the results.

(Good day, everyone, the Shantae art book finally arrived! Here are some Fun Shantae Facts that are hilarious to me in light of certain things I wrote for this blog.

Shantae's original powerset would have relied on summoning animals, such as a lemur and an elephant. This later got retooled into transformation magic (which is where the tiger was introduced, then cut).

The first game was originally going to feature the Pirate Master. Risky would've built a robot body to house his dark energies in. This eventually turned into the Tinkertank that you fight instead.

In the original Risky's Revenge trilogy, Risky was just going to kill Shantae and the second game would have consisted of her journey thru the afterlife, culminating in getting her magic (and life) back in game 3.

They're all coincidence aside from me deliberately giving the Shifter the tiger form, but I'm starting to think that my 'haha I should write Shantae' jokes have more merit than I thought.)

(I'm thrilled to see some interest in them! :D

This blog ran with the interpretation that the Warrior from the Village of Lost Souls is Shantae's father. I didn't really change a whole lot about him - I wasn't able to work in a lot of screentime for him. He was a rather skilled treasure hunter in his heyday, and that's how he and Shantae's mother met - going after the same artifacts eventually lead to them helping each other on purpose more often than not. Since he's basically the Karnov protagonist written around trademarks, I gave him similar abilities - skill with boomerangs, ability to chuck fireballs, and unusual uses for ladders in combat among them.

This is the look I ultimately settled on for Shantae's mother. She's very strong, both physically and magically, and is very comfortable letting her transformation magic loose, even when she isn't using it for combat or navigation. Also she's, like, seven feet tall, so she dwarfs both her daughter and Risky Boots. Her preferred transformation is a large, golden tiger, but she can access whatever animal she needs for a situation.

I highly recommend the "A Glance Back" tag if you want to read more about them (fair warning that more of these drabbles are about Mom than Dad, though!) )

body headcanons (Shantae Cast)

Shantae

Is CONSTANTLY running around adventuring, dancing, and fighting. Solid, all-around muscle base. Eats a lot of recovery food (and has quite a sweet tooth), so she has a soft appearance - not quite to the extent of her father's strongman bulk and build, but a similar vein. Cannot feel anything on her back due to burn scars from the Oubliette of Suffering that she acquired while fully human, and wears a vest as an aid for spatial awareness. Moves like lightning.

Risky

Runs on Dark Magic and needs less resources to keep going, despite her expensive tastes, so she's a bit gaunt (aside from her face - she's proud of it, and her passive Dark Magic responds by keeping it looking healthy, if a bit sharp). Wiry muscle from leaping around on her ship. She doesn't look it, but she is heavy due to all of her internal modifications over the years. Hands are somewhat calloused from working with machinery and weaponry and ship rigging, though the effects are lessened by Dark Magic.

Sky

Strong arms and back muscles from hauling around bird feed and balancing war birds on her arms. Arms are covered in scratches and small scars at most times (accidents happen and talons are sharp). Has put on a bit of weight since settling in Scuttle Town, mostly sitting around her stomach and hips. Only cares because her parents nag her about it.

Rottytops

Literally swaps out whatever she wants when something breaks. Tries to keep her appearance consistent unless she's doing a bit or needs to reach something beyond her normal scope, but can often look mismatched. Her head and torso are OG, her limbs are not. Prefers strong running legs when she can get them. Is wearing contacts for her farsighted eyes.

Locket (aka Living/Soul Rottytops)

Played baseball while she was still alive. General athletic build with some emphasis on her legs for speed and her upper back for those ideal swings. Farsighted, wears glasses.

Bolo

Worried about his appearance and keeping up with his friends, so his muscles lean more toward "show" than "go". That said, his legs are strong, as are his hands. Hands are calloused from all the odd jobs he does. Constantly covered in bumps and bruises and scrapes in various states of recovery. Nearsighted, isn't doing anything about it.

Mimic

Has decent muscles from expedition work, but most of his weight is fat in his old age. Doesn't care about it in the least. Hands are rough from handling machinery in his workshop.

(I was working on a short Magicbyhalves animation a while back. This is all I have done on it.

I never made as much progress on it as I would’ve liked because it was in the middle of me trying to transition over to Clip Studio Paint along with other things that got in the way.

Shantae, Rottytops, Volkan and one of your anons were planned to be in it, and if I continued, it would’ve likely been done by the time of this blog’s anniversary. I’d still like to finish it one of these days.)
