Some things never change

“They really don’t...” Shantae looks back to Risky. “I’ll stop you all right, just you wait and see!”

“Good luck with that! You’ll need more firepower than ever to put a stop to this scheme!” Risky tugs the anchor’s chain, and it quickly disappears through the roof. The trap door slams shut.

Volkan lets out an annoyed huff. “shantae. the artifact. please return it...”

“I’ll be as quick as I can. You enjoy the rest of the Relic Hunter Expo, though, okay?”

“aye-aye!”

Shantae scoops Volkan up into a quick hug. “That goes for the rest of you, too!” she calls out to the crowd. “There’s plenty more to see, so feel free to stick around! My Volkan is very in-the-know when it comes to these relics, so ask him anything!”

Volkan smiles and waves from his ‘perch’ in Shantae’s arms before she sets him down. She hops offstage and grabs Rotty by the hand.

before i go angrily work out to try and alleviate some of this fury

have a few screenshots from IC among us from last night feat. some friend’s ocs and also kain

sadly i didn’t get any screenshots from when raz was playing, he died VERY quickly... tfw the tinkerbat kills you 😔 there WAS this weird glitch that was happening afterwards where kain kept turning blue after matches though so i guess raz was possessing him temporarily????? he was there in spirit

Volkan’s set a clawed hand atop the sheet. “are you ready... for this year’s... Object of Mystery?”

The crowd cheers, rocking the small workshop.

The little Tinkerbat grins and unveils it with a flourish, revealing a large copper cube with strange markings etched along its sides. He carefully takes the artifact into his clawed hands. “this appears to be... some sort of puzzle. it may be hard... to tell from the crowd... but several of these symbols repeat. perhaps aligning them... will reveal... more secrets!”

Shantae’s stumbling to her hammock in the lighthouse. “granting a wish that big was... really exhausting. even with help. it was cool though. would’ve been nice if you could’ve seen it, but you just kinda... vanished...”

She flops over, face first, and cozies into her pillows.

“... getting everyone back home... it took a long time. we did it, though. all the other worlds are safe now... we fixed it...”

Volkan skitters over to the hammock and throws a blanket over Shantae. She gives him a sleepy grin as she cozies in.

“... fixed.. everything...”

Where's Rotty with the food

Rotty stumbles through the doorway at that moment. “Sorry ‘bout the wait! There was a line, uh, everywhere...” She hands Shantae a large, paper-wrapped bundle of cooked fish.

Shantae bites into it. Her eyes light up. “... Rotty have I mentioned that I love you forever.”

“Heheh~ I should clearly bring ya treats more often.” She hands the Shifter a piece of bright fruit. “This one’s fer you - figured you’d wake up eventually.”

Many thanks, Rottytops. She reaches out with her little paws and starts happily gnawing away.

“Ah! Volkan’s here too. Good thing I grabbed extra fish, here ya go.”

“thanks, buddy.” Volkan hops off the bed, leaning against the side as he carefully chews on the treat.

I'm kind of surprised Volkan hasn't come to check on you.

“I guess that is a little weird - ”

The sound of a trapdoor banging open echoes from the front of the workshop. Volkan skitters into the room, climbs up into the bed, and snuggles into Shantae’s side.

“Oh, there he is. Everything okay, buddy?”

“... with you, aye.”

“Aww...” She pats him on the head, then sets her arm around him and pulls him into a proper hug. “Hey, where’s your console?”

“... overheated. left at home.”

“Ah, okay.”

Her mother finally wakes up, stretching and unfurling her tail. She immediately climbs up to Shantae’s shoulders and flops there.

“I think it’s a bit warm out here in Scuttle Town for scarves, Mom.”

Nonsense. This workshop’s freezing. This is the perfect time to be a scarf.

“Pfft, okay, whatever.”

Shantae’s mother paws the ground. I believe it was some sort of dream magic, but I’m not sure. I would have gotten a closer look if I could have, but... well, you saw.

Volkan quietly claws his way up the rope and joins the tiger at the window.

“... worried.”

As am I. I... don’t think this is something Shantae can fight, but knowing her...

There’s a crackling boom of magic from Scuttle Town.

Shantae throws her window open. “What was that?!”

The tiger sticks her head out the window, sniffing the air. A portal from another world. They’ll be opening up all over Sequin Land, now.

 “That sounded pretty violent... I have to make sure everyone’s okay!”

Shantae -

“I can’t just sit here!”

Her mother sighs, and gives Shantae another headbutt before uncurling her tail.

Shantae wastes no time slipping downstairs and charging out the door. “Volkan, keep Mom company, okay? I’ll be back as soon as I can!”

“... aye...”

Something shapely forms in the ground, likely a stone, though the BRAND is not familiar to the eyes that perceive it. It's sharp, and ornate, and yet somehow simple, fashioned to resemble an eye in the barest way one could imagine. The rock, strangely, is left without another whisper at the half-genie's feet. Pick it up?

“An artifact...? Is this part of your ‘game?’”

Shantae reaches for it, but Volkan rushes from his hiding place and desperately tugs her hand away from it.

“bad feeling...! don’t, buddy!”

“You think it’s dangerous?”

The Tinkerbat nods, and looks at her with pleading eyes.

“... If it’s dangerous, then... I shouldn’t leave it lying around where anyone can grab it.” She grabs the strange rock with her other hand and turns it over.

Volkan pulls back and wrings his claws.

“Look, if this turns around to bite me later, I’ll deal with it, okay? Like I always do~.”

oh my

After hesitating a moment, Shantae pats Volkan on the head. “You got the hang of that really fast, buddy! Did you... wanna try the other coins out?”

Volkan nods, then frowns, then panics, and starts to flail around.

“You’re not stuck like that, don’t worry! Here, take deep breaths, okay? Or, uh, whatever the octopus equivalent is.”

Volkan stops flailing, but still looks nervous.

“Just relax... Think about what you usually look like and focus on it. Let the magic go and you’ll find your way back.”

Volkan nods a little, doing his best to follow Shantae’s instructions. There’s a brief, blinding flash, and then he’s sat in front of her, a Tinkerbat once more. But he looks... just a little different. The claws on his hands and feet are a bright, vibrant purple, and his bandanna is nowhere to be seen. Whatever’s in its place looks to be organic, and a pair of tentacles pokes out from the back of his head, imitating the tied-off ends. Another set have replaced the small spikes on his back.

“Oh. Are you good like that, little buddy?”

Volkan’s confused for a moment, then looks himself over. He turns back to Shantae with a big, toothy grin. “aye! squid game real!”

Shantae bursts into laughter. “I can’t believe you were the squid game this whole time!”
