Idk, 'a hound will die for you' seems like pretty blatant foreshadowing, especially if we tie in the maid slaying a giant in a snow castle prophecy....methinks sandor is slated for death both books & show, but that he will have a tender romantic moment with sansa in the books before meeting his end. Show wise he's probably going to have a touching moment with Arya before she gives him ~mercy~, as was clumsily foreshadowed in their last scene together before they left for kings landing :/

I agree regarding the show but I don’t agree regarding the books. I just do not think George will go to the trouble to save him from death once just to kill him off again?? Lame. ESPECIALLY if it has anything to do with Gregor. Sandor’s whole arc in the books is about him finding a way out of his self-destructive path of hate and vengeance and towards something more noble and rewarding. Elder Bro makes it pretty clear how Sandor’s fixation on his trauma and revenge has literally ruined his life. It would only be the worst regression for Sandor to leave the Quiet Isle still seeking revenge…. against whom, exactly?? Gregor is dead, and Sandor knows this. Ser Robert Strong is a hollow husk. If they ever do cross paths, it would be the antithesis of everything George has built with this character to just have him murdered by a zombie. 

His “a hound will die for you” line is not, imo, foreshadowing his death. The way I see it, (a) it was meant to be taken as an oath to Sansa, a declaration that he WOULD put his life on the line for her if need be, and he would (and he already has), but also (b) “the Hound” is already dead. ;-)

D&D will most like just kill him off so... ???

See I would believe this and be willing to read into the subtext if I wasn’t so used to D&D’s style of the most obvious interpretation being the truth. There is NO subtext with them. They write for casual fans, or at least, for fans of the show who have not read the books. Most shownlies will interpret that scene quite simply as him referring to killing his brother (because they’ve hammered that home as the basis of his character). Imo, they’d be exactly right... Sandor has gone off to kill his brother and will probably die doing so because as far as D&D are concerned Cleganebowl is his purpose in life and a satisfying conclusion for him (because get hype!!!). 

They don’t care about him finding peace... they definitely don’t care about his feelings for Sansa. I’m pretty sure D&D just wanted to get the Sansan acknowledging each other’s existence scene over with so they could move on to other things. The romantic tension in that scene was mostly down to Rory and Sophie knowing that their characters have that tension and playing it as such... because why have it go nowhere otherwise? At the end of the day the writers want Sandor to remain bitter and angry because they find that entertaining. If he mellows out and falls in love with Sansa of all people he’d no longer be cool...

Speaking as a grown ass woman who actually slid off her lounge and crawled up to the TV squealing during the initial Sansa staring at him part… I’m just disgruntled and sad now. His convo with Arya makes it clear he’s off to Cleganebowl and he’s not coming back in any capacity. So even Sansa couldn’t save him. K.

Yeah, again, WHAT WAS THE POINT?? Why even HAVE that encounter with her if it doesn’t impact him in any way whatsoever??

Hey D&D, you wanna “subvert expectations”? Have Sandor give the finger to KL because he realized after talking to Sansa that there are more/better things in life than hate & revenge and he decides to stay in WF to build a new life for himself!!!!!

(and yes, when the hand touch happened, I began flailing and I scared my cats hahahaha)

They had Sansa smile at him, reach out and hold his hand, give him significant flirty looks... and they’re going to try and make out that Sandor Clegane would leave her to go kill his zombie brother who he’s perfectly aware isn’t even really Gregor anymore??? Sandor Clegane???

Sansa: She would have made you happy. For a while.

Sandor: Only one thing could make me happy.

Sansa: What’s that?

Sandor: That’s my fucking business.

Sansa: [just looks at him with a glint in her eye]

Sandor: [surveys her] You’ve changed, little bird. Was a time when you couldn’t look at me.

Sansa: [grins] That was a long time ago. I’ve seen much worse than you since then.

Sandor: [suddenly looks pained] I heard. What happened to you… If I had known…

Sansa: It’s done. [pause] I should have gone with you that night. When you asked me to. I was just so scared I wasn’t thinking straight. Maybe if I had…

Sandor: [hangs his head ruefully; after a moment] I should have been there.

Sansa: [reaches out and takes his hand] You’re here now.

[They hold each other’s gaze for several moments. Sansa stands, slowly, licks her lips, and slinks away, keeping her eyes locked on him. Sandor sits for a few beats, considering.]

Sandor: Ah, fuck it.

[He chugs down the rest of his ale and follows Sansa out of the Great Hall.]

Honestly, I think D&D just put in Sansan interaction to tie up the loose end of them never interacting up to this point despite being in the same castle and sharing significant history. Their connection is simply not interesting enough to D&D for it to be developed any further... they’d rather focus on Sandor and Arya’s banter and violent road trips. Any sexual tension in that scene was probably mostly down to Sophie and Rory knowing how their characters feel about one another and acting the scene accordingly...

Okay let’s talk about The Scene™

So lemme preface this by saying that I know there are a lot of you out there who are just happy to have SOMETHING and would rather just take it for what it is, and that’s totally fine, I get it. Arya killing the NK when it had literally nothing to do with her as a character or her journey and had no emotional payoff or thematic resonance at all... Just so the audience could be surprised.

This postmodern bullshit that “avoiding the expected” and “shocking your audience” is more important than writing a good and coherent narrative has to die in a fire because it’s ruining storytelling.

This is it. This is thesis statement of the last 3-4 seasons of this show.

While as a Sansan I’m pretty happy, as an asoiaf fan I’m disgusted.  The takeaway from tonight’s narrative was that women in power be crazy and they need good, rational men in their lives to steer them away from their destructive natures.  I’m not blaming any character, I’m blaming the direction D&D have taken their female characters specifically.  There’s also the implication (as we saw in Dany’s dialogue with Jon) that women traumatized by violence can never be their old selves again.  Not in the sense of acknowledging that, of course, traumatic events change people.  D&D think it means women like Dany, Sansa, Arya, and Cersei are MAD.  Unstable, untrustworthy, dangerous, badass but also less inclined to have a conscience.  I mean, Tyrion’s conversation with Varys was just outright misogyny made to sound reasonable and justifiable by the narrative.     

Then to put the cherry on top, they put Missandei in CHAINS.  Why?  She has no weapon, and people from Naath don’t know how to fight.  JFC, she’s one of the few POC on this show with a speaking role, one who has consistently been kind and wise (smarter than Tyrion in some cases) and stood on the side of freeing oppressed people.  She’s one who has experienced (unquestioned) racist treatment from people she was there to help save, had to be brought low in CHAINS to end her story.  Fuck you, D&D.  Now I get to look forward to the next episode when the crazy violent brown people start slaughtering the innocent white people, JUSTIFYING their fear of the brown people.  Double fuck you, D&D.  And for what?  To further this bullshit story about Dany being a Mad Queen.  

Oh and about that too… in the next episodes, we may get treated to crazy women being murdered by their intimate partners who they loved and trusted.  Triple fuck you, D&D.
