Would you be willing to do a directors cut on your story Log Report? I remember reading it for the first time and it was so interesting!!! With Kix and Hardcase having been on track to be commandos and how other clone troopers viewed the commandos, it grabbed my brain and ran off with it!

Log Report!!! Yes I love my commando drop outs. I’d had thoughts about Kix being a commando drop out as far back as before TCW Season 7 aired. Hardcase was a bit different: he’s one of the clones that has explicitly referred to having a designated trainer! In legends, only the commandos had designated trainers—the others were said to be flash training and sims only iirc. Do I agree with this? Nah. But I also decided there should be a difference between designated trainers and general trainers.

Kix’s trainer was obviously Doctor Mij Gilamar, my favorite CVD member. I figure he trained a lot of the medics anyways.

I decided to make Hardcase’s trainer Fenn Rau for a couple reasons. One) Hardcase is a Kiwi nickname iirc, and thanks to Jango I associate the Kiwi accent more with Concord Dawn and 2) Hardcase is really good at piloting and of the Concord Dawn confirmed trainers Fenn is the pilot.

I really wanted them to kinda be. Not at odds with the other clones, but for it to be something that when revealed made them at odds. In Legends it’s usually the commandos who have issues but not all of them. It’s not something either of them regret, either doing or leaving. Or they didn’t, anyway. And then the story took over.

I am! I love talking about worldbuilding and character choices and interactions. There’s a ton of stuff in my brain that never makes it on the page. Things like “what was going on outside the POV character’s POV” too.

But only sfw fics.

Every single fic update there is an author trying frantically to find the right balance between a nonchalant aside of "leave a comment if you enjoyed =)" and clinging desperately to the coat tails of a random stranger, dragging along behind them on the street wailing "Please, please! I have to know what you thought! I'm desperate to talk to people about this! Ask me about the alliterative repetition! Ask me about the symbolism!"

sure dave filoni might not be a particularly careful planner, or respect the works of people that are not him, or care about lore or character consistency, or think about the implications of his worldbuilding on the wider franchise. but at least he doesn't respect the characterization of his own ocs either

TCW Era, rated T.

Depa drops down hard on her cot, immediately flopping back down onto her side to stare at the dull walls of the camp tent she’s sharing with her padawan. Caleb is out among the men, running around and learning about how camps go up, how preparations are made, and how everyone acts while waiting for the other shoe to drop.

She’s already gotten used to it, and the first battle of this campaign is over, so she’s able to just lie here. 

Her comm and her lightsaber are trapped between her hips and the thin padding of the cot-mattress. For a few minutes, she’s too tired to do anything about it, but then her comm vibrates, sending a shock of pain right to her lower back and she rolls over onto her back, fishing it out of her pocket and taking her lightsaber off her belt while she’s at it. 

She flicks the button that connects her comm to the one calling. “Billaba,” she sighs, sitting back up to put her lightsaber under her pillow.

“You sound tired,” Fenn Rau grunts, voice echoing slightly and telling her he’s comming from his helmet. 

She smiles without thinking, hearing him. “One battle done, who knows how many more to go. Where did you end up this time? Are you back on Kamino or are you flying?”

“Flying,” Fenn confirms. “Thought I’d beep you, since we’re just in the black. I was sort’ve hoping you needed me, but it sounds like you just need sleep.” He laughs drily at himself. “Is that selfish? That I’m always hoping you’ll need me.”

“I think you’ve saved me more times than you think,” Depa says softly. She rubs her thumb along the side of her comm. “You’re probably right that I need sleep. But I’d rather talk to you.”

Fenn curses. “Had to drop that while I’m stuck in a fighter, huh?”

She grins. “I’m alone in a tent,” she taunts. “I figure, you’ll make up for it when you’re on Kamino teaching and getting a normal time to be alone for the night. I’ll take the little time I have, thank you very much.”

Fenn sighs loudly. “Incredibly rude, cyare.” He pauses, then adds, “I’ll send you a text comm when i get back to Kamino—we’ll see what’s up with your lot then. And after…”

“And after the war we’ll get some actual time,” Depa finishes, smiling even as she yawns.

“You should take a nap before the kid comes back around,” Fenn tells her. “Or meditate, whatever you can do. I won’t keep your attention much longer.”

“You could,” Depa teases, taking one of her braids down and unplaiting it with one hand. “I like listening to you talk.” Fenn makes a little wheezing sound. “But if I’m too distracting, I’ll let you go.”

“Evil woman,” Fenn says emptily. “Yeah, what do you want me to talk about?”

“Protector training?” she offers, lying back down on the cot as he sighs, put upon, and starts to weave a story about his past for her.
