This is cool! It’s fun seeing how many more layers you keep adding to this to really entwine everything
All's Fair Is Just Becoming More Complicated
Alright, this is gonna be a ramble. Tagging: @maple-writes, @pen-of-roses, @drabbleitout, and @grailfish! This started from this post!
So, this story is truly going to focus around the Celestials and what they did in the past on this world. I have already mentioned the religion that revolves around the Celestials, and I think I know more about how it works and the context that surrounds everything. It will probably be the main conflict.
But first! I want to talk about Irina's part in the story. Her story is most likely going to be a lot more personal, not so much branching out into the world and going into the lore. I like the idea that she's just going to be more character focused. So, she won't get infected by the other species or anything like that. She escaped from her parents five years before the story started, and she got android Briar (when dog Briar died) two years ago. I'm thinking, though, that when she first escaped from her parents, she found Thorne and Jude, and she stayed with them and became part of the Demon Trio. She joined the rebellion, but when their methods got more questionable, she refused to help the rebellion anymore, just staying with Thorne and Jude. But the leaders of the rebellion were salty about that and kept sending Thorne and Jude on missions and leaving her alone. But Thorne, Jude, and Irina are absolutely family. Her story will revolve around getting a bigger found family and finally fighting against her parents.
So, I'm going to start with backstory. So. I'm not exactly sure what happened yet, but for some reason, the planet was in danger of dying, Primary's crystal was threatening to break, etc. The humans of this world had the crystal magic of Bring Me That Horizon, and a lot of them got together and used their magic to lift their safe haven with Primary's crystal off the planet, creating an artificial moon, basically. There's a dome of crystal surrounding them, and the presence of Primary's crystal makes it a flourishing place that is hospitable to life.
Back on the main planet, without Primary's crystal there, it really did die, most of the animals and plants dying. The Celestials of the planet had just been trying to save another planet, and hadn't been successful, but they had brought humans back with them. Which of course was not good when they found out that their own planet had died, and even they could not get to the artificial moon and talk to the humans there. They helped the humans survive, helped them get technology to live, and the other sentient beings that had survived evolved to become parasites towards the humans, since they were the only alive things left, basically. Mosquagons had also been able to survive, since they feed on elements. But the humans had brought their own Primary crystal, and they have been using it to power their technology. The world outside the empire is inhospitable and basically impossible to live in without the empire, and the people who have been able to have done so by stealing from the empire. The rebellion still operates within the empire because they'd never survive outside of it.
So, that leaves us with the humans on the main world adoring the Celestials and worshipping them as gods and praying for them to come back, to make everything even better and protect them. There's the other species who see the Celestials as abandoning them and instead grabbing more humans instead of taking care of the world they had. And the humans on the artificial moon worship Primary, since their seed is what is keeping them alive.
The Celestial religion emphasizes peace and never being violent, because it was violence that led to the Celestials abandoning the other species of this world. It does preach harmony with the other species, but to still view them with suspicion. The empire is run by both humans and the other species, and a lot of the species want to destroy the Celestials. Which is exactly what Maisa wants to do. They also want to get to the artificial moon, considering it a paradise that will bring its paradise back to the main planet if they take Primary's seed back. Aeflin just still really wants to dissect a Celestial and understand them, and she's making a weapon for that. Surprise, surprise. Chess.
The rebellion against the empire consists mostly of humans, but there are a lot of the more disenfranchised members of the other species as well. The rebellion has unfortunately also been manipulated by Maisa. They hate the Celestial religion, and they want to tear down the Celestials as well. They hate the empire and don't want to rely on it, and for that purpose, they want to reach the artificial moon paradise and take Primary's seed as well. They're also aggressive in their tactics, even using Chess as the face of the rebellion when she absolutely does not want them to.
So! Up on the artificial moon now. It's where Bring Me That Horizon was gonna take place, but I have merged the two stories now. So, a long time ago, some Shades were able to sneak themselves in because their true form of water vapor was somehow able to slip through the crystal surrounding the area. Don't ask me how yet, I don't know, lol. One of them was Aeflin, and one of them was Churi. After a while, some of them left with some of the magic somehow, but Churi and a few others stayed there and took control of the magic, making it so that no one would have the magic without their permission. And they got power-drunk and enjoyed controlling the humans who had abandoned the planet. And that's how the situation in Bring Me That Horizon happened. Churi and the others are too power-drunk to actually break the barrier to let others in because they like their power too much.
Aeflin has held onto that magic for a long time, looking for her perfect weapon to fight a Celestial and capture one. Maisa wants to use her weapon to also kill the other Celestials. Aeflin joined Naivi in the prosthetics experiments, with Naivi trying to create an army to fight the empire, but Aeflin didn't give a fuck, just sending them over to the empire to be used as brainwashed police and soldiers if they were defective. Of course, Naivi is suspicious about what Aeflin is doing, but she is too desperate to fight against the empire and the Celestials (not completely sure yet why Naivi hates the Celestials, but she wants to kill all of them) that she can't afford to question Aeflin. Aeflin laser focuses on Chess, which allows Naivi to create her own soldiers. Aeflin at least forces Chess to have the elemental magic from the prosthetics and the crystal magic from the artificial moon, and might already have given her the Celestial magic because Aeflin is very determined to make Chess into her weapon.
Aeflin uses the chip that is used in the soldiers and police to control Chess, and she sends her to kill everyone in Naivi's army. Chess certainly does succeed at least somewhat, but in the fight, one of them hits her with lightning that fries her chip and causes her to seize, and instead of killing her in her weakness, they dump her in an alley, and who happens to find her, but Ashont, yeehaw. She has forgotten everything, and when she wakes up in Ashont's mansion, he lies to her and gives her a fake backstory. He works with Maisa and Aeflin, but he wants her all to himself. He does horrible things to her, but she finally escapes and then lives her life on the streets for a few years before the start of the story.
For right now, it looks like there will be four POVs. Chess, who will be going through the main lore story stuff and really being the driving force behind the story. Vesper, who will be the one actually dismantling the empire, getting a found family, and fighting back against the religion and Maisa and Ashont. Irina, who has more of a personal story, less high stakes, but still connected to the found family. And Nesri, which will connect with Chess's story and will really bring the big lore information.
Because Chess is who I'm obsessed with, I'm gonna go over the different factions and how they want to use her. The empire overall doesn't want to use her, so that's nice. The religion thinks she should basically die. Maisa wants to use her to break open the artificial moon to bring Primary's seed back to the planet, and he also wants to use her to kill the Celestials. Aeflin wants to use her to kill Celestials and maybe also bring back one alive for her to study. The rebellion wants to use her as their face of the rebellion to show that even a soldier of the empire can change, even though she never was a soldier, but no one knows that. And Naivi wants to use her as a one person army to dismantle the empire and also to kill Celestials. I think she has figured out Aeflin has her own goals and doesn't care about what Naivi cares about at all, so Naivi has turned her sights to getting Chess and using her. While completely ignoring the crush she has on her. It'll be a fun dynamic.
And Chess just wants to be able to live and not just survive. She doesn't believe she deserves that, and she does believe that she's a monster. She hates the religion and the empire, but she also hates herself and thinks she's a monster. So, she absolutely needs a found family and a polycule to help her to find self worth and to truly live.
This is gonna be complicated, but I think this might work really well! We'll see, though, lol.

Ok, so this one will be fun because I'm gonna be a dumbass and propose something. When you vote, please reblog and specify what kind of fic you would like to read of the couple you chose: angst, fluff, or spice (18+). And I'm gonna actually write the piece of the couple that everyone votes for, and I will actually post it. I'm terrified, but I might as well try this. I'd like to try, lol. It just might take me a while to write it. Coness (Conor and Chess) and ChIves (Chess and Ives) are both tied in my head, so I'd like to see what others think about them. Also, not guaranteeing a spice of ChIves, I'd have to talk to @drabbleitout first!

In the process of writing an emotional chapter/scene and stuck in the predicament of feeling emotional about it not being able to tell if it's because:
a - I'm actually writing this very well and it actually is an emotional scene and is coming out as such.
b - The song I'm playing on repeat to get into the mood is working too well and is not actually a reflection of the writing quality.
c - I am sleepy which sometimes makes me feel more than usual.
d - All of the above

the cool thing about emails is that if you don't look at them they can't hurt you. if you just don't open your email, the people trying to harm you with the emails can't get you. as long as you don't look, there's no emails.
