i haven't seen this up until this morning and not all that many people within the rain world community seem to be talking about it but

it's come to my attention that rain world has recently partnered with a company known as ludeo for the game's newest update. this was tucked away in the replies of their rain world art month post

ludeo is an israeli company run by two brothers based in tel-aviv. this is incredibly disappointing and fucked up to be doing during the on-going genocide israel is committing in palestine and the surrounding regions and i quite frankly do not care if it turns out this was just down to "poor research" and was an "accident": you can quite literally look up the two founders' names on linkedin and find out where they are based in under a minute. there are no excuses for this

another point of note about ludeo that i find upsetting is that a lot if not all of the images used on the company's site to advertise this product are 99.9% guaranteed to be ai-generated

while this is absolutely not the main issue at hand here as promoting your partnership with this company at this time is already fucked up enough to begin with, going and hiding this post within the replies of another promoting your art month event to the artists within this community is so astoundingly ironic and ignorant

i am not trying to suggest that there are alterior motives behind putting this post in the replies of another about a community event rather than making an entirely new and separate one dedicated exclusively to information about this update, but i do find it strange. i woke up to finding out about this and was absolutely livid, and while what's done is already done, i am hoping whoever was responsible for this knows how fucked it is to be promoting this company at this time, or just in general. i am not trying to start a witch hunt or start shit for the sake of starting shit, but i think this needs to be addressed and spoken about, as money towards israel is money towards more bloodshed and violence in palestine. this shit makes my blood fucking boil

Even outside of a moral standpoint, the CEO’s recent behavior is absolutely fucking ridiculous.

You market this place as LGBTQ+ friendly, and then you make outrageous decisions that contradict this. When you are called out, you double down instead of realizing your “mistake”? This benefits NOTHING but a fragile ego.

I don’t even have to explain why everything else is ridiculous. If the CEO wants this hellsite to burn, then so be it. I am going to leave until justice is PROPERLY served, and I suggest others do the same.

look. i’m sick and fucking tired of seeing such horrible and inhumane responses to the global strike for palestine happening this week. it’s not just some “tumblr phenomenon”. nobody is forcing you to take off work. nobody is forcing you to take off school. use your brains and figure out that the strike is for justice in palestine. the point is to DO WHAT YOU CAN. even if that just means reblogging posts, telling a friend who might be able to do more, participate in the boycotts, make informative posts yourselves. i know that is all do-able to the majority of you. have a heart. this is not supposed to be comfortable. this is not supposed to be nice. innocent lives in Gaza are being killed by the second and the strike is to keep up the pressure for a ceasefire. i wish pikmin 4 had the streetpass style option to use either a cat or dog as your preferred animal companion (like in the find mii streetpass game, you'll have cats or dogs as your hired help depending on which one you tell the game you prefer) and i think thatd add a lot of life and enjoyment to pikmin 4

cause as someone whos really uncomfy around dogs half my pikmin 4 experience is just "me and my beloved pikmin!!!! and that thing the game forces us to use :/"

like oatchi is conflicting to me. i think hes a really good idea for a game mechanic- having a ridable companion that can jump so all your pikmin can be in one place and travel to elevated heights is a reallyyy fun idea! also, having oatchi be able to have similar abilities to pikmin means every pikmin type can be in the game without the risk of the player having to backtrack or carry a ton of different pikmin types. however, this is a double edged sword as oatchi often overshadows the pikmin, both in gameplay and plot (MY GOODNESS NOBODY N THIS GAME EXCEPT OLIMAR CARES ABOUT THE PIKMIN AT ALL PLEASE MENTION THEM AT LEAST ONCE???). also. you cant beat the game without oatchi. you Have to use oatchi. you do not have an option. its not a choice. even if you switch to oatchi and run away and switch back to the captain, you'll eventually run into some obstacle that has no reason to exist other than forcing you to use oatchi.

but like... maybe its also cause hes a dog and that makes me naturally uncomfy, maybe if he was a neat little kitty id be like "awww the silly hehe me and my silly guy and our pikmin army" and id enjoy the game a lot more

i think honestly there shouldve just been more customizable options for oatchi in general, like smallfry in splatoon 3 or the horse in miitopia. if you're going to force an animal companion onto us that overshadows the pikmin we all love you could at least let us make the companion our own so we can be attached to him. instead it just feels like the characters we loved are shoved to the side in favor of. some other thing.

#even if I believe a feature like this would deviate from the original concept I think Pikmin 4 had #I really think this would benefit the game as it is now and help cure a bit of its identity crisis #it’s clear they shifted their motives late in development #scrambled to make what they had fit to the new focus of the game #and left some scraps behind that contribute greatly to Pikmin 4’s awkwardness #Even if I would greatly prefer the greatly implied original vision (Shepherd being the main character) #I endorse a Pikmin 4 that fully commits to its new direction instead of being a sloppy mix that honestly feels like it spites its audience #always endorsing Pikmin 4 criticism #pikmin 4

so I can safely say I was the first person who took Shepherd's theme music and split it into the left and right channels just for the sake of character analysis. and you would not believe what I found

pain and conflict: a game you adore with all your heart has gotten a sequel that is massively better in terms of gameplay but completely lacks the atmosphere, story, or other details the prior game had that while they dont make the new game outright worse it still leaves you feeling somethings missing and makes you miss the original game even as everyone moves on

examples:

zelda botw has a fantastic incredibly investing story and interesting world that feels largely abandoned. zelda totk.. does not but it has ultrahand and so i wanna play it more

pikmin 4 has the absolute best gameplay in the series that perfectly combines the first three games but also adds so many new and interesting things like the camera angle and much more level geometry. however it lacks the atmosphere. pikmin 1-3 were oddly comforting in how lonely and in space they were, whereas pikmin 4 feels jarringly crowded and bright. the series jumped from having around 7 proper characters (at least out of the ones with 3d models) to upwards of 50. and we dont even get to fly into space at the end of the day. also they force you to use oatchi and the pikmin tend to feel useless half the time compared to oatchi which kindaaa stinks but at the same time oatchi is such a good gameplay concept

pokemon black/white 1 is a masterpiece in every regard from atmosphere to story to just generally everything. its so fresh and unique and takes so many risks... except back when it released, it fell into the "hate now love later" cycle the pokemon fanbase constantly repeats, and in the end this game was so despised for trying new things they had to make black 2 and white 2. which.. throws away atmosphere and story in return for heavy focus on gameplay, gameplay mechanics, side gameplay, and more pokemon. its not.. Bad but when bw2 is praised as one of the best pokemon games when its entire concept came from bw1 being too different. it feels.. bland. i only enjoy this game when i watch chuggaaconroy play it tbh this isnt a game i ever play on my own

super mario galaxy has one of the best atmospheres of any video game ever made and comet observatory being one of the best hub areas ever and the fantastic story of rosalina and the breathtaking cutscenes. super mario galaxy 2... has better gameplay and level design. but like you arent even in space half the game most of the galaxies just have skyboxes that make them look like regular mario levels.

i could throw fire emblem into this but i think many fire emblem games are intentionally meant to be parallel (awakening/fates and three houses/engage) so i wont cause i think its unfair to compare them like that

but yeah whenever this happens im always stuck and conflicted on which game i wanna play. do i go for gameplay or do i go for the one that makes me feel warm cozy and happy inside and feels like it has more meaning.
