Decades after the Seoul Olympics (1988), the flame of hope with shouts of peace re-appeared at the same platform of the stadium at the World Alliance of Religions’ Peace (WARP) Summit in 2014. The global community was holding hands together, singing songs desiring for peace, and promised to work together, putting differences and barriers aside.

This spirit of peace will have tangible results at the WARP Summit 2016.

Nichelle Nichols “Lt. Uhura” flies aboard SOFIA

Nichelle Nichols recently flew on board NASA’s Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy, SOFIA, the world’s largest airborne observatory. Ms. Nichols has been collaborating with NASA for years, actively recruiting into the astronaut corps and into STEM careers. In the 1980s, she flew on SOFIA’s predecessor, the Kuiper Airborne Observatory.

[ International Court of Justice ]

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) is one of the principal judicial branch of the United Nations (UN). Located in Hague, Netherlands, the ICJ, it was established in 1945 by the UN charter.

The role of the ICJ includes judicial issues such as international disputes caused by interpretations of treaties, international law, violation of rules, etc.

The ICJ offers advisory opinions on requests it receives. It means that advisory opinions, mostly considered as decisions of the ICJ, are confined to “advisory”, not legally binding. Even though the opinions of the ICJ is influential to some extent, the effectiveness is still in question.

Settling international disputes has been requested to the ICJ, but, according to the cases shown in the past,  the advice from the ICJ could be “disregarded”. What is necessary for conflict resolution among states or organizations seems obvious - the mechanism that is able to bind the globe together for peace.
