Air Waves - Wait
Off of The Dance.
I don’t know what this song makes me feel, but it’s got a hold of me. And that’s what’ll carry me into the deep night...
Time to bring another Bandcamp Monday to a close. Rest well, kids, and stay safe out there.
Ac Sapphire - Bonsai
Off of Desert Car.
I saw the mention of Neko Case on the page (as in, “for those who like artists like...”), and while that’s there in some tracks on this album, this song right here has no real comparison. It’s lovely, in sound and in lyricism... dreamy and dazed...
Andrew Tuttle - New Breakfast Habit
Off of Fleeting Adventure.
I’d probably sell my soul to hear pedal-steel guitar in my ears for the rest of my days. It’s such a cosmic, haunting, perfect sound. And on this album, matched with the banjo, we’re talking sublime.
Emily Scott Robinson - When It Don't Come Easy (Patty Griffin Cover)
I’ll let the singer say it all:
“This Patty Griffin song feels like a beacon of light in the darkest of nights. "When It Don't Come Easy" has always stuck with me since I first heard it on a burned CD driving on a dark country road on a Tennessee night. I've been a Patty Griffin fan for nearly 20 years. Her music is always raw, reaching, and powerful to me. For me, this song is a life preserver cast out into dark and choppy waters to anyone you love who needs your help. We are living through the darkest times I have ever seen in my life, especially for women and minorities. As I watch healthcare and reproductive freedom under threat throughout the United States, I am terrified for our safety and freedom. I want to help fight for the human right to make empowered, whole and healthy decisions for our bodies, souls, and lives. This song "When It Don't Come Easy" feels piercingly true right now in these troubled times. It's an anthem for me.”
And a portion of the proceeds goes to support-abortion-funds. It’s a sweet cover, too.
Katalyst, Adrian Younge, Ali Shaheed Muhammad - Daybreak
Off of Jazz Is Dead 13: Katalyst.
Tell me you vibe with Pharoah Sanders without saying a word. Excellent album from top to bottom.
Dendrons - Double Ending
Off of 5-3-8.
Happy Bandcamp Monday to you and you and yes, to you, too. I’ve been on a real 90s indie/post-punk kick lately and this scratches a very definite itch.
And you'd be right to do so. Dolly's voice is made of magic.
Dolly Parton have annoying voice tho
I will literally murder you I will de-bone you like a fish
Right on to all this.
‘Xanadu’ performed by Olivia Newton-John and the Cast of Xanadu
I was one of those freaks who was always more enamoured with Xanadu than Grease. The baroque popera of ELO. The Golan Globus kitsch with Busby Berkley aspirations. The Dionyesian dreams in neon. Gene Kelly! Olivia looking an absolute smoke show… Simply better than any ‘50s pastiche could ever hope to be and I apologize for nothing. Rest among the stars.
Sudan Archives - Home Maker
Off Natural Brown Prom Queen.
Did a horrible job with Bandcamp Monday today but am coming in clutch at the end with wondrous sounds from the immaculate Sudan Archives.
Very excited for this album to drop in September.
And it's been a tough day, so good night to all and good luck.
Kyle Dixon & Michael Stein - All Evil Must Have A Home
Off of Stranger Things 4 OST.
Happy Bandcamp Monday!
It’s the month of my birth and as a gift to me, I’m highlighting this soundtrack, because I love this show and I’ll be getting this on vinyl for myself (as I own the other three). As always, August is the best month for multiple reasons.
Alvvays - Pharmacist
Off of Blue Rev.
We’ve waited five years, what’s 2-ish more months, right? Worth every long long second to hear this fabulousness.
And this is where I leave you, kids. Another Bandcamp Monday come and gone. Be good to each other out there.
Feign Jima - Beaches
Off of Funny How Things Turn Out.
I feel like there’s a million realities that this song could be singing about, somehow, but none of that matters, not really. Apply it however you like and it’ll work.
Gorgeous, dreamy pop that’s washed up on a melancholic seaside somewhere.
Absolutely diggin’ it.
Jolanda Moletta - Spell IV: A Home of Clouds and Skies
Off of Nine Spells.
Everything about this album is evocative, with each vocalization laid out like a different memory, just layers and layers of history. Exquisite.
Say She She - NORMA
Written just days before the overturning of Roe v. Wade, Say She She put out a call to action. A funky, harmonizing call to action at that.
May songs like this help us all in the ongoing fight.
JUICE MENACE - Can’t Complain
Off of Clean Slate EP.
Hey there, bois and grrrls, it’s Bandcamp Monday. We’ve got some excellent hip hop out of Wales for you today...
Ben Woods - Fame
Off of Dispeller.
Something about the dreamy, spacey sounds layered throughout this song + the lyrics themselves, reminds me of Velvet Goldmine (the film, not the Bowie song). I dig it.
And so we wrap up another Bandcamp Monday. Stay safe and sane out there, kids.
