Thank you to @sleepnoises for making the original poll & for giving us the idea to to this :)
Sorry if we couldn’t get your favorite on here, we were limited to only 12 options (11 if you don’t include the “other” option).

Every Frank Stockton story I read delights me in just a slightly different way than every other. He's a master of fables and fairy tales, someone who understands that they are simultaneously sublime and ridiculous, and never lets either aspect detract from the other.

I feel like this week is the most fucking relatable Laios has ever been. "Why didn't you ever just tell me that I was pissing you off?" is something I've asked many times.
But also, there's one part that blew my mind... (spoilers)
Seeing your sister turned into a monster, get her throat slit, get stabbed in every vital organ, and go on to kill ten people, and having your mind immediately go to "oh wow, I guess her organs are in different places" is relatable in a way that almost hurts to admit.
I've always had this ability to look past really glaring, huge things and see something that interests me behind them, and that's one of the things I've felt the most ashamed of. It's kind of amazing to see someone capture that in a story of like, oh, I'm not the only person who processes the world this way.

I wonder if it's possible to take the @blumineck approach to other fields: having a grounded expert assess fictional portrayals in a way that fully acknowledges and appreciates the needs of narrative and rule of cool, and genuinely wants things to work.
I often see experts saying they don't want to comment on fictional media because they don't want to just poke holes in it and be a downer. I wonder if archery is in some way unusual, or if other fields could be approached in similar ways.

This is basically assault and battery for a geography nerd.

I love a fictional criminal with a complicated and tragic backstory as much as the next nerd, but there's something to be said for "criminals" where it's legitimately unclear what crimes they're actually committing because they spend most of their screen time having slapstick car chases with comically inept trench-coated police inspectors.

shit, sorry, I'll delete that post right away. I didn't know he was a mythologist at all, let alone that he was infamous for positing a "universal" narrative structure that reduces a variety of works and storytelling traditions to variations on a single Jungian theme regardless of whether their actual contents line up with his thesis. I only knew about his work with Canned Soups.

Taking a break from both Marvel and Horror, my most recent binge has been Di Gi Charat. A video game store chain hired a studio to make a minisode series about their mascot.
It's the sort of joyful chaos that can arise from a tiny budget and no oversight, a prime example of the kind of 90s comedy that was my introduction to anime, and a pleasant way to bludgeon the bad thoughts out of my brain.

How is it I can be laid up with back pain but I'm still thinking to myself "I really shouldn't spend all day just lying around"?

Liz brings a kind of "let's just say shit and see what happens" vibe to life that other living beings don't really like.
Oh no. Oh no. Oh no.
Nothing was said before because of tact. Liz has no tact. And I think it's obvious even to her. Red fucking alert, things are about to get messy.
