Hello everyone,

I’m sure it will come as a surprise to nobody but, given the quietness of the dash and the OOC blog, and the lack of questions on the Main, the group has ground to a halt. I put a lot of time and effort into promoting this group, making graphics, and trying to make members feel welcome and relaxed. But, perhaps due to when it opened, or perhaps due to something I did, or something else entirely, it seems to have fizzled to an unfortunate stop. For now, MonstrousHQ will go on hiatus for the time being, until further notice. Personal commitments, study, and the general busyness of life mean that I don’t have the motivation or inclination to try to revive it at the moment. Thank you to everyone who joined, wrote, and created for this group, for the very brief time it existed. I may come back to it when I have more time. All the best to you all. Sophie

Let’s get back into the swing of things! Sorry for the quiet on the Main for a day, but work has absolutely killed me. I’m getting used to getting back into a routine, and while I do that, why don’t you get used to a new group? Specifically, ours! We’re a friendly bunch of writers who have cultivated a nice and relaxed atmosphere. Hello everyone! Apologies for the quiet over the past few days -- work and personal engagements had me very busy. Given the rather long unfollow list I just posted, and the slow activity on the dash lately, I am going to be posting this as an official interest check.

I always wanted any group I ran to be relaxed and welcoming, given how busy people’s personal lives are. The activity requirement is posting at least once a week, in character, or else asking for a semi-hiatus (during which you can post once a week, or more, but it’s not required) or a full hiatus, (during which there is no expectation to post). People may ask for hiatuses or semi-hiatuses lasting as long as they would like, but the thing there is that they have to be asked for, or I won’t know! I realise that we have a lovely, friendly, group of writers here, who love this plot and want to write together, but with how busy I am at work and with my Masters, I want to make sure there is a real request for this group to keep running. If you’re still interested in sticking around, feel free to give this post a “like”. If you have any ideas for how this group might be better run, reach out to me via I.M.’s. I’m always open to suggestions!

I’ve always liked to keep activity quite lax, so people can fit roleplaying into their every day, busy, lives, and the activity requirement for this group is only that you post once a week on each character. If you’re on semi-hiatus, you can post once a week, but there’s no expectation for you to do so, and if you’re on full hiatus, there’s no expectation that you post at all for the duration of your hiatus. Just a small update to let everyone know that Great Expectations has now been added to the accepted literature page! It’s getting to be quite a long  list now, but if there are any Victorian or Gothic novels, or penny dreadfuls, that you would like to see on the list, please let me know, and they’ll be added. It’s lovely to have such a large variety of potentially playable characters from famous works, and I’m sure the list will only get longer.

I’d really urge the admins to look deeper into Tiger Lily and consider banning her, just add the word problematic and you’ll get tons of information on why.

EDIT: Though I previously had a long explanation as to why I wouldn’t ban Tiger Lily, including my own thoughts on the very complex issue of her representation in past Peter Pan media, and my reasoning for keeping her as a potentially playable character, having spoken to other people on the issue (thank you so much to those who reached out to let me know their thoughts!) I have decided to ban Tiger Lily, for the comfort of everyone. Thank you for voicing your concern. I did consider both sides of the fence on this one, but, in the end, speaking to indigenous RPers on the issue swayed me to ban her as a potentially playable character. If anyone has any other opinions on the issue, or any other characters they feel should be banned, please feel free to I.M. me. I want this group to be a safe haven for everyone, and for all members and potential members to feel heard and respected in matters such as these.

I keep coming up with castings of my own, so here’s a few muses I’d love to see! Lindsay Duncan, Maggie Smith, Lesley Manville, Kristin Scott Thomas, or Ruth Gemmell as Mrs. Hudson; Rochelle Neil, Gugu Mbatha- Raw or Karla Crome as Aleera Dracula; and Golshifteh Farahani, Eve Hewson, or Winona Ryder as Irene Adler. Honestly, you can make any canonically white character POC, you can set characters at any point during their storylines, and you can really make these muses your own! If you need any FC suggestions, just reach out and I’ll gladly give you some.

Now the tags seem to have fixed themselves, you know who I really want to see? More muses with FC’s of colour! We have lots of open spots on our accepted literature page, such as Aleera Dracula, the third wife of Dracula, Tattycoram from Little Dorritt, Nancy from Oliver Twist, Ianthe from The Vampyre, and Antoinette Cosway (Bertha Mason) from Jane Eyre. But remember that any canonically white character can be cast using an actor of colour!
