My main reading goal for 2024 is to focus on reading books I already own and The Handmaid’s Tale was a recent part of that. I originally read this back in college and, while I loved it, it’s still tough to fully enjoy something when you read it for class. I’m so glad I returned to it now and got to fully enjoy it. The writing is so powerful and I seriously cannot recommend it enough (but please check trigger warnings first, of course). Plus, what better timing to reread it than when I’m finally watching the show!

If you buy a lot of books and end up not liking some of them very much, can I suggest checking them out from your library first?
I worked in bookstores for a long time, and of course lots of my paycheck went directly back into the store. I've ended up "weeding" a lot of those books and donating them to different places just because I knew I wasn't ever going to read them again.
Now I'm a librarian, and I'm realizing just how much money I'm saving by checking books out FIRST. Maybe I check something out and I end up DNF'ing it within 50 pages. Maybe I check something out and I enjoy it, but not enough to read it again. Maybe I check something out and I really love it, but it freaked me out so bad it's tattooed on the inside of my eyeballs and I won't need to read it again (The Hike, I'm looking in your direction).
Or maybe I check something out and I love it! And then I go buy a copy to own because I know I'll reread it, probably with a pen to mark up the margins in a way I know I can't with a library book!
Idk man. If you want to be more intentional with the way you spend your money, if you want to combat the commercialization of the publishing industry, if you hate that authors are being forced to do all their own marketing on TikTok and that readers are feeling shame about not purchasing and finishing literal hundreds of books per year... Maybe start by going to your local library. You can still post haul photos of library books without spending a dime.

Amidst the 'don't waste time' obsession, let's not forget the joy of savoring a book at a slow pace, simply for the love of reading.

This is one of the first books I’ve picked up this year and, while I haven’t finished it quite yet, I’m absolutely loving it! I won’t lie, I never read the summary beforehand. I just saw the pretty cover and the concept in the title- What you are looking for is in the library- immediately drew me in. I think this is just the book I’ve been needing lately and I’m so glad I picked it up when I did!

Hey, it’s been a bit! The end of 2023 ended up flying by in a whirlwind of working my butt off, visiting family, and trying to get my life back into some semblance of order. Fingers crossed I can keep working towards that order here in 2024! One thing I’m proud of though is that I still managed to complete my 2023 reading goal! My goal was 72 books and I managed to read 75. I found so many more favorite books, including This Is How You Lose the Time War here, and had so much fun doing it. If you found any new favorites in 2023, tell me what they were! I’m always looking for more book recs!

Oh wow, I just realized I’d forgotten to review this wonderful book back when I read it! I read The Santa Pageant recently and absolutely loved it! Tove and Effie just might be some of my favorite characters ever, and I’m so glad I got to spend my time with them. The author did such a great job of making them relatable and likable, I couldn’t help but root for them the entire time. The way their relationship grew throughout the novel was so sweet and so genuine. I loved how much they each respected each other and actually did their best to communicate (if only more romance novels could let their characters communicate!).
And the pageant! I loved how each of the contestants got to know each other and how each of their characters was gradually revealed. I was a little confused at first as to how the pageant would work for the plot, especially with both Tove and Effie competing. But in the end, I loved how it was used to further the plot and allow our characters to grow.
I want to extend a huge thank you to Lillian Barry for sending me an ARC of this! This ended up being one of my favorite books and I highly recommend it for anyone who’s looking for a Christmas story with good LGBT+ rep!

I’m way behind on my sci-fi book club’s buddy read of the Dune series but I’m making progress! Life’s been extra busy for me lately so each moment I get to sit and read like this has been greatly appreciated. I can’t wait to read more of this series, as well as read some of the other books on my October TBR!

👑Book Review👑
I got an eARC of this from Hidden Gems and am sharing my honest thoughts on it.
I really enjoyed this story, from its characters to its plotline. This is one of the first books I’ve read with this type of romance and, while I’m still deciding if that theme is for me, I liked how it developed throughout this book. The author didn’t fall into the trap of instant love, and I liked that the characters didn’t immediately drop their conflict, in favor of a romantic relationship.
I do feel that this book could’ve gone at least one more round of editing. Many spots were redundant or had simple misspellings or the incorrect tense of a word. The plot didn’t seem to always flow smoothly either, though it may have felt that way to me due to the lingering errors I was finding. And try as I might, it still took me longer than expected to read this book.
All in all though, the characters and plot itself outweigh the cons for me, and I’m looking forward to reading the sequel when I can get my hands on it!

✨Book Review✨
At this point, I almost feel like a broken record when I start off by saying that I absolutely loved this story. The paring of this fantastic plot with the wonderful characters we were given might be one of my favorites so far. I loved this story from start to end and was hooked on Diego and Maddy’s relationship the entire time. Despite it being a novella, D. N. Bryn did a great job of making the plot feel full, with just as much intrigue and conflict as their full-length novels. I can’t wait to return to these characters in book three, and I highly recommend picking up this series, if you haven’t already, so that you can fall in love with these characters and storylines as well. I received a free eARC of this for an honest review.

I put together a stack of my fall tbr and, while I’m sure I won’t get to all of them, I’m excited to read as many as I can! Some will be rereads and others have been sitting on my bookshelves for a little while, so hopefully I can also knock out some of my physical tbr with this. Do you have any recommendations from your fall tbr? I’m always happy to take more recs!

I just finished this earlier today and it still holds a spot on my favorites list. It’s so exciting to me when I can find books like this that I love, no matter how many times I read them. And as much as I’d love to immediately dive back into it, it’s time for me to maybe finish the other books I’ve been reading!

Hey everyone! I’ve been gone again because I just moved! Oddly enough, I accidentally packed this book up WHILE I was still reading it, so I figured it would be a good fit to be my first read at my new place!

I could function in a society that had an actual nightlife that isn't synonymous with just clubbing. Where are the night markets what if I want to go to the library at midnight
