✦ — ✦ — ✦ — ✦
some quick characterization notes about the purple boy himself <3
✦ this AU leans much heavier on the Classic iteration, especially in the fact that Spyro himself is not a super special magically gifted purple dragon from a long line of prophesied purple dragons. (can you tell i don't like the Not Actually Just Some Guy trope? lol) Spyro is a dragon & he is purple :3
✦ Spyro is going to be (the draconic equivalent of) a mid-teen in the first game; roughly 14 or 15, and his personality will reflect that.
✧ he'll have an immutable sense of heroism and justice, but also an awkward streak due to being thrust into this role of "hero" quite suddenly.
✧ he at first takes this whole "world saving" gig as a sort of high-stakes game, mostly for his own comfort.
✧ he's inquisitive and positive, but also incredibly impulsive. his recklessness makes him come off as cocky to some.
✧ loves his friends and community; very into community building and activities that bring others together.
✧ ambivert with a social introvert lean.
✧ auDHD haver.

The Vàdon is a series of diverse, and often vast, floating isles & oceans, its major settled hearthworlds all interconnected by masterwork bridges. Each island holds unique environments & magics, which the dragon residents have adapted to over a number of generations.
While dragons are the primary inhabitants of this realm, there are other creatures living alongside them; such as the Gnorcs and Absconds. Though, neither species is on friendly terms with dragons. The Gnorcish warlords just seem interested in conquering lands, & Absconds make off with just about anything that isn't nailed down — be that treasure, or unhatched dragon eggs.

✦ Magic is fairly loose in this setting, not following a strict elemental system & being more about concepts given form. Magic is usually sorted/categorized by which draconic community it stems from or fits into. Thus, the only true limits are related to such; a Beast Maker couldn't enchant items, and a Magic Crafter couldn't control beasts.
✦ Magic is kind of like different "branches," with each one stemming from the same source, but all having unique offshoots that only sometimes overlap.
✧ Dragons can learn bits of other magic if it's similar to their own, but need specially enchanted items in order to use magic outside of their "circle."
✧ Dragons with hybrid magic can master more than one branch, or have unique magic due to their multi-community ancestry, but are decently rare.
✦ Different from magic, breath types are inherent to each individual dragon, and can vary from community to community. Breath types follow a physical elemental system (i.e, fire, cold, acidic, etc), but can rarely have magical properties. Appearance can be all across the board, ranging from shadowy blue fire, to iridescent rainbow acid.
✦ Some dragons have no magic or breath type, others only have magic, and some only have a breath type.

✦ In this world, dragonkind (outside of those who possess Horizon Farers magic) cannot fly. They can glide, and give themselves a "boost" via strong wing-flaps, but they do not posses the ability to truly soar like a bird.
✦ Dragons naturally stand, walk, run, and interact as quadrupeds (on all fours), and are hatched as such, but over the generations, some have learned how to walk biped. These days, many dragons choose to primarily go about as biped.
✧ Young dragons often do not have the balance capability to stand upright until their mid-to-late teens.
✦ Dragons can be of any body shape and type, regardless of their chosen or born community. While the "western" body-type (four legs, two wings) is the most common, "wyvern"-style bodies, with the wings as the front legs, are not unheard of! Same with "eastern"-style bodies (ferret-like build and no wings). Hydra-like bodies, with multiple heads, are much rarer.
✧ As a rule of thumb, the more a body deviates from the typical "western" build, the more uncommon it is.

✦ A dragon can only hatch once they've been bonded to a small creature familiar, due to a type of magic that protects their egg from harm. The familiar acts as a sort of "key," that unlocks the egg, as well as the dragon's potential magic. These familiars are referred to as "Sparks."
✦ A dragon's spark serves as a magic reserve, but also as a source of revitalization. Sparks can heal minor to moderate wounds, regenerate magical force, and in rare cases, have even been said to be capable of temporarily gifting any dragon with true-flight.
✧ There is a very minimal pattern in what type of magic comes from certain sparks, but it's unclear why some dragons don't acquire magic at all.
✧ Sparks cannot verbally communicate with dragons, as they do not share a common verbal language. Most all dragons can understand them on a nonverbal level, however.

I'm Fictionkin-ish? Coining: Imagithrope.
@who-is-page and @frameacloud's panel at Othercon has gotten me thinking about writing essays about my own alterhuman experience... I was thinking maybe I should write something about why I write fiction, and how that relates to my own identity. But thinking about that made me realize that one of the reasons I write is because I identify as a fictional self-insert character that I created when I was a hatchling in make-believe games. Like, that's the way I view myself - not as a generic blue dragon, but as that specific character. Additionally, given that many of those games were based loosely in books I've read, it means that my identity is based in fiction as well. Though I don't identify as him, my name is even based on a fictional character's!
I've never really thought about calling myself fictionkin before now. When I joined the otherkin community initially, I had some bad reactions to talking about my identity in that way. And then some more bad reactions. My identity as a dragon is involuntary; I couldn't change it if I tried (and I have), and it isn't something I intentionally made into an identity. It's a bit of why I never really got why everyone insisted strongly on the distinction between otherkin and otherlinkers. Though I'm not opposed to the idea, I don't feel like my fictional identity was made by me channeling a past life either, which felt like it was the acceptable explanation for this back in 2016. Otherwise, creating a kintype wasn't "allowed."
For a while, I felt like I separated my identity into a dragon otherkin aspect, where I was just "a dragon", and had character me on the side as a fun thing - what I considered my "kinsona". But I think this is a false dichotomy. The two aren't really separable; who I am as a dragon was created through books and play. It wasn't really until @aestherians's posts in early 2021 - five years after I found the otherkin community - that I felt that the community had finally decided that the definitional line between kintype and linktype, voluntary and involuntary, didn't have to be such a strict line after all. (I'd been arguing that "involuntary identity" shouldn't be a part of the definition of otherkin for four years by that point, so yes, I'm still both smug and salty.)
So, though I didn't expect this to lead to me coining a new term when I started out writing out this post, I've decided to do it. I'm not sure if anyone except me is going to use it, but I think creating it as a concept gives it both a bit of legitimacy and permanence. I hope it will be of use to someone else, and if anyone else shares a similar experience, I welcome them to talk about it in more detail - at some point now, I think I definitely should describe mine.
Imagithrope - An alterhuman whose identity was created and/or formed, wholly or partially, through some form of imaginative play. This can include fantasy play, roleplay (tabletop, text, live action, etc), fanfiction, writing, art, and more.

✨ Spyro 💎
Tumblr media
sideblog for another of @bardkin's projects! one part AU-remix/retelling of the Classic Spyro series, other part fictionkind & otherhreated imagithrope stuff.
this blog will include art, prose, & musings about a classic Spyro AU that takes & alters some choice aspects from the Legend of Spyro games (characters, some locations, etc).
posts that are kin related in any way will be marked with a VHS tape emoji [📼], and kith/hearted related posts will be marked with a television set emoji [📺].
there will (eventually) be a fanfic series about this, once i get the plotline & worldbuilding down, covering the narrative of the first three games & beyond.
anyone will be allowed to use the designs & worldbuilding i create for this AU! 💖
