after i made a post saying i wasnt going to treat myself like a machine to update fics i felt better about taking my time on updates until i kept seeing people constantly complain about other author’s updates not being frequent enough. how a fic that hasnt updated since november is "dead." or how they want an update so bad from an author who left the fandom and theyre so frustrated with them. and this is your reminder that authors owe you nothing. so stop complaining about this. you’re sending a message to every fic author who sees that message that we are worth nothing but what we create to you. a fic that hasn’t updated in a couple months or years isn’t dead until the author themself says it is. give fic authors some fucking grace & time and stop guilt tripping us. we do this for free.

If you can’t think of anything to say about a fic, writers also like to know:

- what time it is

- how long you’ve been reading

- how many chapters you’ve covered in the last 24 hours

- what you were late for because you were reading

- the woeful few hours you have left to sleep

- the emotional outbreaks you’re experiencing

- the inappropriate place you’re having said outbreak

- the general public’s reaction to your outbreak

- how much phone battery you have left

Review Saturday

Hello, everyone! I’m here to invite you to participate in something nice!

We all know how fanfic authors receive so little love for the amazing works they gift us to enjoy after our tired days or during lazy weekends. We all know there’s lots of post telling us on how to leave a good comment. We all know, too, that sometimes it slips our mind to do so.

That’s what Review Saturday is for! You read a fic this week and were feeling a bit shy? Or you barely finished before lunch hour ended and didn’t have time for a comment? Or were binge reading and a bit (a lot) lazy so didn’t want to leave a comment on each one? Then do it this Saturday! Go to that fic, read it again, get your energy up from the feels and leave a comment!

Reviewing can sometimes be scary, I know. How do I even talk to that god/goddess at the other side of the screen? But it’s not so bad! I promise you, that author will be thrilled to hear from you! Hey! They may even start a conversation with you! How good is that? (Really good, I assure you. @ladynorbert and I had lots of fun talking after my reviews on her DA fic.)

So this Saturday, and every Saturday, you can participate in this fun game! You want to quietly offer your love to an author? Leave a comment on AO3 or FF.net on anon! Want to share that fic that was totally amazing? Reblog it here on Tumblr with a comment! You want to explode in happiness? Make a new post, tag your author and ramble away as you fic rec! Believe me, be it a page long review or just a line, that writer will love it!

The people organizing this event just want everyone to be happy, possibly find new friendships and normalize reviewing, but we can only do it if everyone helps. So don’t forget, September 9th we’re having our first Review Saturday and we encourage you to participate!

I don’t care if your comment is coherent. I know what you mean and i love you

I don’t care if you ramble. I read every word and i love you

I don’t care if you leave a comment on a fic from four years ago or leave comments/kudos on like ten of my fics in one go. This isn’t IG, pls stalk my AO3. I love you

I don’t care if you mention the same thing in your comment that four other people have already mentioned. It’s actually really useful to know what resonated with people and I love everyone who takes the time to tell me they liked a particular turn of phrase

I don’t mind if your comment is super long or just a couple of sentences, i love them all

i need y’all to realize that fic writers literally depend on you reblogging our stuff, especially if we’re linking to ao3 or any other external link

When we add external links, which we have to to keep things good and proper, our posts then get nerfed and don’t show up in the tags unless the post gets enough notes for the fucking idiot robot that runs this site to go “oh, so it’s a legitimate post and not a porn bot.” This means if we want our posts to reach a larger audience easily, we need engagement from our immediate followers, and for their followers to engage in the post, etc, etc.

I get that fic promos aren’t pretty to look at like fanart is, but please support fic writers the same way you would fanartists.

Art and Writing Commissions

If you’re following my blog, you probably already know that my baby boy dog Maverick is only 1.5 years old and had a grade 2 mast cell tumor removed from his muzzle in October. Right now there are no other signs of the cancer, but for his best chance at survival, the oncologist said he needs to get radiation therapy so we can treat this aggressively and make sure it won’t grow back for a few years. Without the radiation, it could grow back in the next couple of months, spread, and his survival time would be in months instead of years.

Thankfully I have insurance for him, but they only cover up to 7k a year. Radiation therapy is 8k so it’s going to use up his insurance until it resets next November and then I still have to shell out 1k for it. On top of that, the closest vet that does radiation therapy is an 8 hour drive from where I live, so I have to stay at a rental for the 23 days he’ll need to be there for the treatment. Boarding him at the hospital was just as expensive (3k) so I decided I’d rather just stay with him to lessen his stress.

I really hate begging and I know this has been a hard time on everyone, but I don’t know what else to do. 4k is a lot to spend right now, but I’m not going to let this go untreated and just let Maverick die in a few months when he’s barely begun to live.

I’ve decided to try opening up commissions for art and/or writing.

I have written for the FMA fandom, mostly for the Royai pairing, and for the Raven Cycle fandom, as well as my own original works. All donations and commission payments can be sent through my Ko-Fi.

Hi there! I’m Xen, an avid World of Warcraft player, writer, anime fan, and wannabe artist. I’m currently working on my first book, a fantasy series called Grim Aria. You can read the first (rough) bit of it on AO3!

I’ve written fanfiction for Fullmetal Alchemist (manga and Brotherhood universe) and The Raven Cycle book series which can be found on AO3 as well and also on Fanfiction.Net. I keep seeing posts floating around talking about how Roy never calls Riza by her first name and one of them mentioned it was possibly because it was a strategic move initiated by them. But I’d just like to point out that Roy never calls ANYONE by their first name. Not Riza. Not Hughes. I’ve not seen a single person he refers to by first name unless he’s introducing them by their full name. I feel like perhaps it’s just a Roy thing? Post military though because he definitely calls Riza by her first name right after her father dies. So maybe it’s part of his military image.

“How does staff plan on encouraging reblogging again?”

“Are there future features planned that will combat the decline in reblogs?”

Mention how replies, the “message post to” feature, and the Group Chat systems all replaced reblogging. And that we need more features that encourage reblogging, or can only be done via reblogging.

Mention how Tumblr (site and app) needs a tagging system set up by users themselves so they can reblog with tags effortlessly.
