I finished the prisoner’s throne and i am disappointed. I have been processing for a while but ai think it just doesn’t measure up to the original books. Like at all.
The pacing is so off. Like nothing happens for so long and then everything happens. Idk how to explain it was just annoying
The confessions and ending didn’t give the payoff. Like everything just wrapped up so neatly and I was just meh about it.
The biggest flaw for me is the writing. Like was it always this bad? My username is a quote from the series so clearly I loved the original books. But this was just middle grade level sentences.
This is a political intrigue nov disguised as a fantasy novel however, this time it just didn’t hit. Like whenever there was a problem, there was a convenient magical solution rather than court politics (wren’s rebirth, oak in the nutshell, bogdana losing her power). I wanted more scheming and less metamorphosis
Cardan is still love though. Ge’s so baby girl and is even sexier now when he schemes. Jide and him i want eat up. But yeah everything else was whatever.

Wren is about to arrive in Elfhame. I repeat, Wren is about to arrive in Elfhame!!!
The thing I'm most excited about in The Prisoner's Throne is a Jude vs Wren face off.
Wren has kept her baby brother hostage. You best believe that Jude will literally obliterate the court of the teeth to get him back
I think Cardan will definitely be scared for her because he would have never seen her this angry. Maybe he will mediate? Afterall, he knows all about being a royal that is treated like shit and plenty about being cruel in return
But if anyone could ever take on Jude's wrath it's Wren. She has a whole lifetime of repressing herself to make up for. She'll put up one hell of a fight
They're both so similar if you think about it. Both of them want to gain power over those who hurt them. Both of them like handsome idiotic Greenbriar boys. But where Wren is more open about wanting to be loved, Jude despised it al together.
I can't guess Wren's endgame though. Like she is queen. What does she want now? Can Jude and her rule side by side? Would she ever swear to Jude and Cardan? Idk but I'm hyped for it

So far we had one jurdan cameo in #tpt and I screamedddddddd.
Why tf does Oak think Cardan hates him? Hello, he’s Cardan. He’s probably the only one that can see through your aloof exterior. He perfected it my guy.
No spoilers pls.

Bringing this back because i’m starting the prisoner’s throne. Let’s see how much of this actually happens
A few things that definitely happened post Queen of Nothing
Jude decides to personally train Cardan in sword fighting because he needs to defend himself. Even if he refuses to kill, his skills (or lack thereof) are a vulnerability they can't afford
Jude is surprised to learn that Cardan is an adequate fighter when Balekin isn't torturing him into it.
He does however, win several fights by kissing Jude in the middle of sparring. She insists it's cheating, he insists "all is fair in love and war"
Cardan and Jude visit Vivi in the mortal world and he lets Heather paint his nails hot pink
He beats Jude in a game of Tekken and she's a sore loser about it
He learns to braid her hair from Tatterfell and insists he can do it better than her now. Tatterfell is mildly annoyed but amused at the same time that the king of elfhame is interested in braiding his wife's hair
He tries his best to be there for Oak. He knows what it's like to grow up with an absentee father so tries his best to be what Balekin never was for him.
That's all I can think of for now

More Poppy War content because I cannot sleep.
Chen Kitay is the most dangerous person in all of the books. He's more dangerous than the Trifecta, Nezha, Rin, Vaisra.
Because Kitay is fucking SMART.
Kitay holds the power over the greatest weapon Nikan has had since the Trifecta. Kitay can control the Last Speerly, can subject Rin to not having fire. And, if that doesn't work, suicide will end the Phoenix for good.
Kitay is a terribly competent soldier, able to fight off Nezha, who is regularly described as almost superhumanly adept in combat, for minutes before surrendering. Even better, Kitay knows Yin Nezha personally, deeply
Even worse, he's the smartest of them all, both strategically and absolutely. He has an eidectic memory which makes him capable of remembering everything he reads on the first try. He is able to understand new Hesperian technology in days, he's able to design a machine that makes Rin fly.
Kitay sits in the war room of the Dragon Lord, the richest and most powerful man in the empire, and is listened to because he makes so much damn sense. He could see the Dragon Lord's water campaign failure coming from miles away, is a strategical linchpin in the campaign of the Southern army. He is adept in personal strategy too, immediately correctly guessing why Vaisra would betray them, giving clear and sound reasons. He's, in conclusion, a brilliant commander.
And he's ruthless, when he wants to be. He breaks Rin's hands when they need to escape, he is able to design traps that kill dozens of soldiers when Sinegard is under attack. After that he manages to fight and survive the onslaught that is the siege on Sinegard, which means he must have taken lives. It happens to be Rin who narrates, who is very unreliable. Kitay is her blindspot. She wants him to be a good man, a hero. He's the most moral man in the series, but don't let that fool you. The fact that he is the best person in the Poppy War character gallery doesn't really mean much, when comparing him to, say, Rin or Daji. Kitay is willing to kill, and more than capable of it. That only he has a moral compass that still somewhat works doesn't make him a good man in the slightest.
He's mentally unbreakable, too. He survived Golan Niis with nothing but wit and cunning, he withstood interrogation for weeks at least. He manages to let the Phoenix run through his mind without the side effects on his reasoning that Rin seems to be suffering from. I'd argue that he's mentally about as strong as she is, but he is just not willing to fight her. Everyone else should rightfully be terrified if Kitay decides to come for you.
And we haven't even spoken about his wealth. Kitay is the son of the defense minister, one of the richest inhabitants of Sinegard, canonically lives in a mansion with servants. We should believe that his influence extends far beyond the city's walls.
Kitay will outhink you, outmanouver you, remember your every move, then stand back as Rin burns you to death after he figured out a way around you using your own tactics. He might not have a god, but he doesn't really need one, either.
The Pantheon knows he'd be way too powerful then.

Why did i read this. Brb gotta sob
it’s the way i imagine that after nezha has succeeded, gotten rid of the hesperians, and is ruling a peaceful nikara he puts rin’s sword in a display case and the plaque says
“the sword of fang runin, general of the southern coalition, general of nikara, speerly, shaman, last commander of the cike, savior of nikara.”
and somewhere he keeps letters that he’s written to her through the years. promising not to forget her or what she did for nikara. saying sorry. telling her about the day he drove hesperia out. telling her how what she did saved them. how he forgives her.
he always writes two of each, same words copied down each time. he keeps one for himself, to remember, but he burns the other one, so maybe, just maybe, she can see it.
anyway if you can’t tell this series destroyed me and i will actually never recover so that’s how i envision nezha’s future.

Okay let's do some predictions before I go into the Burning God
Nezha will kill his father (this is like wishful thinking at this point)
The dragon emperor is the dragon that possessed Nezha
I think Daji has something to do with that. Because i doubt he would've released ziya and her from their bond
Unless, Daji killed him and he freed her from the bond just go curse her? Idk I'm reaching
Rin and Daji might fight side by side
Rin finds a way to remove Altan's mark ( pretty please with a cherry on top)
Kitay dies
Maybe Rin dies Altan's death? Maybe maybe
Something bad will happen to Kesegi
We will see tutor Feyrik again
That's it. Might add things as I go
