🚨 Skin and Accent System Update 🚨

At 23:59 server time on Tuesday, April 23rd, we plan to disable custom skin and accent submissions to prepare for upgrading to the system's revamped successor. Orders already in queue will still be fulfilled.

While we don't anticipate any delays for the new system's launch, we will immediately provide updates here and push back the submission cut-off date if necessary.

the past ~6 months for sure is just me working with various types of grayscale / monochrome painting because i found out it was WAY easier to just ignore colours for the time being and 100% on details / form / shapes first

what annoys me though is that then i lose the vibrancy that is a whole other problem you can't (usually) just add colour layers / hue stuff on top...

like to this day i still despair because i can't reach patagonia's level of detail and vibrancy because it was worked with both colour and detail at the same time

(yeah shocker, right is the older one. lmoa)

it comes down to the fact that i enjoy softer colours and that if i wanted to make bright's details more clearer you just had to pump up contrast / depth / sharpness...that i didn't do in favour of a softer look? :

i think it's beyond an artstyle thing at this point, and more a personal flavour thing. so uh if someone out there can advise me (read : slap my hands away from the softening filters) that would be great, also harangue me to start painting in colours again (i know i can, i just don't want to think of so many things at the same time...)

but at the same time there's nothing wrong going for a softer look you know? it's all taste...but it's irritating when the taste doesn't reflect like, another part of me that wants a higher contrast thing. so what do you want bro

I've wanted to do little graphic cards for my custom skins for a while now, so here's a shot at it for my most recent custom XD

hi august what pens / programs do you use for your skins? im trying to figure out if my sketches arent to my liking bc my skill level or bc my choice in pen lol

oh also this is very ignorant but do you know how to like. upscale the blueprints. do you just copy em and transform/drag them out bigger?? do you upscale yours to work on and then downscale them to submission size?

I use clip studio paint (CSP) and my skin brush is the default 100% opacity hard round pen that comes with any drawing program! not sure why mine has the eraser icon (I think at some point I lost my default round tool and had to duplicate the hard round eraser for it??)

I am not sure how much brushes impact other people's skin outcomes. I have always found myself relying on strong shapes and colours, so the brush doesn't matter very much to me. I think this is true for art in general. a brush can change how you draw, and changing how you draw can lead to something you'll ultimately end up happier with... but brushes will not solve all problems. a different pen choice will almost definitely not fix disliking your sketches, unless you're currently using something objectively terrible for sketches.

I resize by downloading the psds from the site templates and changing image resolution like this. you will be able to do this in any art program, but for software really bad at resizing like procreate you can use photopea online instead.

In mine and many other east Asian cultures, the dragon traditionally symbolises things like power, wealth and strength (imperial symbol and all)

I think we often forget that in the story of the Great Race, the dragon came in fifth because it'd stopped to give people rain. Then it'd stopped again to push a rabbit adrift on a log across the wide river so it reached the shore safely (that's why the Rabbit year comes before the Dragon).

Dragons aren't meant to just be powerful - they are meant to do good with such power, and to help those in need.

So in this lunar new year, I hope you gain more power, so that you might be able to help others. I pray you have abundant resources so you may give to yourself and those around you. I wish you courage, endurance, kindness and generosity, for yourself and your people.

I hope you, and I, will be rain givers, life preservers, joy bringers.

I hope we will be dragons.
