As Fate Would Have It | Deleted Scene 📂

As I find myself in the depths of writing the prologue and first chapter to AFWHI, I already know that there are some scenes that I'm either reworking or cutting out completely. I still wanted them to find their way out into the sphere, so here's one short deleted scene that won't find its way into the series.

“So have you thought about how you were gonna break the news to Sibyl?”

Silas levels Draven with another exasperated stare but leans on the car beside him, “We always had a plan for how this would go when the time came. Just didn’t expect for this to happen so soon.”

Draven shrugs again, “I mean, if there was a best time for Tex to learn everything, it would be now, right? Cascadia’s in the best place it’s ever been. We’re not dealing with all the pandemonium that we were when he was a baby.”

Silas sighs.

“I guess you’re right. I’m just nervous about how he’s gonna handle this all. We’ve lied to him his entire life, he’s gonna feel betrayed.”

“Maybe. But if Tex takes after his old man, that means he’s got some smarts about him. Eventually, he’ll come to realize that you and Sibyl were only doing what you thought was best in order to protect him.”

Silas tilts his head and stares up at the house that his son has been raised in all of his life. Away from him even if always near. Living a separate life though at the forefront of his father’s mind with every sweeping moment. Cascadia had been rippled with violence, death, and terrorism as Tex grew into toddlerhood. It was necessary for him to be raised in a safe haven away from it all but a son always needs his father. The last fifteen years have taught Silas that a father always needs his son.

Webzine submissions open for writing!

Dear writers on tumblr, pour yourself a drink on the house. We've been asking for editors for our webzine in the last few weeks (you can still sign up here). We are focusing on going into different worlds. Now, we can announce that we are accepting writing submissions for it!

Who can submit writing?

All writers can submit writing to our zine, whether you have already published other works. Or have previously shared other writing pieces on [tumblr] or Archive of our own (or similar platforms). Our editors will pick their favourite pieces for each category based on different criteria, the most important thing is how well the pieces fit our theme Portal to Another World.

What kind of writing can I submit?

We are open to any form of writing! You can submit any form of writing from poetry, prose, flash fiction, a short story, song lyrics or even a non-fiction essay. As long as it fits the theme and is unpublished. Our theme is Portal to Another World. Unpublished in this case means it isn't published in print or online. You can't submit excerpts from your WIPs when they can't be understood outside the context of your WIP.

Will you compensate me?

As much as we would love to pay all contributors, we don't have the funds. We discussed this on our server and decided we want our zine accessible to all readers. Understand this is a passion project, so you will not be compensated for your writing. The finished zine will be shared as a free PDF download with a pay-what-you-want option on our KoFi. The little money we make from the zine will be used to fund future projects of writeblrcafé (e.g. a second zine) and boosts for our Discord server.

Where can I submit my writing?

Just fill in the form below! You can submit your writing as a PDF file. The word limit for prose is 2500 words. The limit for poetry is 50 verses. You can only submit one piece of writing. If your piece of writing is longer, feel free to submit it. We will decide on a case-to-case basis. We hope many of you take this chance to collaborate on our webzine, which will be compiled in a compelling design.

As mentioned, I wanted to make a separate post looking for beta readers for my current WIP! Looking for anyone who wants to give advice/feedback on characters, plot/storyline, pacing and worldbuilding!

Tex Aurelius is thrown for a loop when he’s thrust into a world where beings other than humans exist and he’s poised to one day, become a leader to an entire sovereign. Along the way, he forges friendships and rivalries with other future leaders at Cascadia Academy.

be proud of your original characters. it's no easy task to create a character from scratch, to make them believable and real and human. it takes time. it takes dedication. so what if they aren't perfect right away? so what if there are still things you're only now figuring out after time? characters evolve, they go through changes and arcs and stories just like real people do. and it's okay if your character develops over time, you don't need to have it all figured out right away. there are some things that will only ever clear up after writing them for a while, finding their voice, and seeing the way they interact with other characters. but this is your character, your creation, and you deserve to feel proud about it no matter what.

this is your reminder to write down those random lines that pop in your noggin at random times of the day. in your car listening to that song for the hundredth time— write it down. laying in bed at 2 am— write it down. rewatching the show/movie for inspiration— write it down. whether you’re actively writing that chapter that’s been giving you a headache or plotting out that little thot you’re super excited about. jot it down in your notes app. leave yourself a voice memo. scream it to your bestie on discord. Hello, Writeblr. I joined to connect with other writers, especially folks who write/are into LGBTQIA+ sci-fi/fantasy stories. I’d love to connect with writers looking to hype each other up and get excited for each other about our stories!

Sunset, a serial fiction in three arcs (Sunrise, High Noon, Sunset), is posted bi-weekly on our Patreon where you can support us while getting fun extras. You can also find Sunset on Wattpad & AO3 a week after Patreon. *Sunset is now getting an audiobook version for accessibility! More info here.*

Sunset is a slow-burn of mounting tension and stakes that only get higher with expansive worldbuilding and a majority LGBTQIA+ ensemble cast that has something for everyone from espionage to adventure to romance and even a dash of monster hunting.

Sunset is written by myself and my partner/co-writer @touloserlautrec who also does all the artwork and “issue” covers.

When asked to sum up my WIP badly as a joke I usually go with: Telepaths ruin everything.

Actual blurb:

Joey sees the history of everything and everyone he touches as translucent blue ghosts acting out the past all around him. And this includes his own past, which is how Joey knows he wasn’t born, he was made. Made and thrown away. What he doesn’t know is that the people who made him, SolCorp, are actively working to find him and bring him “home” to be with others that have supernatural knacks like Joey. Neither one has any idea how much that will change them both forever.

SolCorp was founded to hide the existence of knacked people and their myriad of superhuman powers from the world, keeping humans safe from out-of-control knacks and keeping knacked people safe from human intolerance. So when they discover that one rogue Sol scientist had generated 25 babies with a defective Probability Manipulation knack and abandoned them out in the world fourteen years ago, it’s up to SolCorp to find them and bring them back. But maybe their knacks weren’t so defective after all because as three of the Venus 25 grow into adulthood, improbable things start happening that will change SolCorp and the world forever.
