"Not all humans are born equal," Ayumu tutted.
"You and other mediums of the same ilk possess something more. With practice, you will be able to see through a spirit's illusions. I'm sure you've seen those spirits who look as they were at the time of their deaths? They will not be able to hide those parts of themselves from you... Isn't that fun?"
Tumblr media
Gabe didn't reply to that, although he would have called the vampire far harsher words than 'irresponsible'. He had half a mind to remind the spirit that the little sapling had actually saved them from the dream world, but he didn't. He simply crossed his arms and met Nakatomi's gaze.
"I did see things when I was a kid, but that was always dismissed, you know, kid's got imagination," he shrugged. "But now, I just assumed it was because I was let in on the truth. Couldn't all humans see the supernatural world if they were told about it?"

Ayumu laughed because it was only Isabelle who could speak of Izak like that and it always amused them. They certainly had a very tumultuous history and Isabelle spoke of them like they were squabbling siblings.
"I actually found it rather entertaining. We had been having relative peace for much too long. Someone that came to shake up our community was sorely needed," they hummed in amusement and picked at the lace fabric of their dress. "You know me though... I miss the days when the world was engulfed in the chaos of more widespread war."
Tumblr media
"He has always been a brat seeking mother's attention so to speak." She sighed, eyes growing distant. Even when she had been a mere fledgling, Izak proved to be a pain in her side. Anything she desired was turned to ash in his wake.
"Please don't remind me. I've had meetings about the meetings I need to have. I've inherited nothing short of a disaster that needs to be rectified. The politics are beyond entangled. It will take me months of positive PR to get back to a base line." Izak did deserve to pay for what he did, but Belle's loyalties to her maker dictated that she not simply give him to an enemy. "And what is your opinion on the matter, old friend?"

"Really?" Ayumu looked up in mild surprise at the vampire who had all but moved onto their lap. The spirit had to give it to him for working that in so smoothly, but they still had to wonder if it worked on everyone. Or not many at all since Chris admitted to not feeding much on others.
They felt Chris' nose move along their jaw and Ayumu could not help the way their hand instinctively moved up to close around his throat as a warning. "You'd best be mindful of not taking too much..."
Tumblr media
He half grinned when Ayumu grabbed him and went with the pull, slinging one of his legs over the spirit's so he was halfway draped over them. He slid his hand up to brush over the side of Ayumu's neck. "You might not particularly want to, but don't I have you right when I want you now?" With a glance up at their face, Chris leaned forward to brush his nose along the edge of Ayumu's jaw. This was the first time he'd been so forward with a stranger, and Chris genuinely felt like a complete fraud.

"Oh, so that is the sort you're after," Ayumu chuckled. Unfortunately, they were not the muscly sort, it was evident from the way their dress hung off their long and lanky frame. "You should come by Ware sometime. I have a bear spirit under my employ who fits that description to a tee," they shot Atlas a suggestive wink.
Tumblr media
"Your father is such a party-pooper," the spirit said with a small pout. "Wasn't it your lot who told us to feed the dryads? So which is it? Feed them or don't feed them?" they asked as they tossed a large piece of bread towards the closest one.
Regardless of her slight attraction to the spirit, Atlas would have rather died than admit it. "You kind of look the part. You don't look like you could crush me like a watermelon with your thighs," they added, shrugging of the spirit's touch. "Or biceps." Maybe they did have a type after all.
Ayumu certainly had gone for a vibe for the event and was leaning into it. "You do you, babe. I'm just saying that I personally enjoy celebrating that day. It's why I'm here and my father is chiding people for overfeeding the Dryads."

"Did she? And here I thought that you and Izak got along swimmingly, at least for the early part of your lives as vampires..." Ayumu mused.
Tumblr media
"Like what? It's not as if your species has not been the ones causing such drama in the last few years. You know a lot of the community still strongly believe that Izak should pay for what he allegedly did with those werewolf attacks." The whole thing had been so funny to Ayumu because they had enjoyed sitting back and watching all the chaos unfold until Isabelle stepped in to whip everyone back into shape.
"Well considering you helped my pick out the last pair, I would never dare spill a drop of blood on them." She winked, taking a sip of her wine. Hells pity the soul who would make her break that particular promise.
Belle groaned, draining the cup and wishing that it were stronger. "Please do not remind me of that particular bond. For all the good sense our sire had, she momentarily lost it all when she decided to embrace him." If he were to disappear, Isabelle's life would vastly improve. "But most of them are behaving for now. I believe whispers of what I did to the last vampire who crossed me have been making the rounds. But Darling, surely there are far more interesting things to talk about than what the other vampires are up to."

"Oh, so that was your technique?" Ayumu shot Chris a look of mild pity. "It doesn't particularly make me want to bear my neck to you, you know."
They noted the way the vampire slumped away from them and instinctively reached out to tug him back. "You're much too nice for a vampire on the hunt, Chris. I would recommend that you adjust your technique a little..."
Tumblr media
"Less experienced, but not completely inexperienced." Chris countered. He really should have thought this through. The first time he'd fed on Matthew the thirst taking over his self consciousness had made it easier, now he felt like he was scrambling. "I'm pretty sure it already worked, or did you not come swooping in to rescue me?" He raised an eyebrow and slumped a little away from Ayumu in hopes that the spirit would follow.

END!
Tumblr media
Spots of black swam through her vision as Elena steadied herself against the very counter the spirit had so effortlessly leapt over. Her latest attempt at stopping them had nearly depleted all of her energy, and yet it still hadn't been enough to put even the smallest of dents in their vile pursuits.
Then, just like that, with a string of gibberish, they were gone, leaving Elena to stare at the empty space they had only just occupied. The piskie's desperate squeals still ringing in her ears, she could feel the hauntingly familiar sensation of helplessness settling low into her gut. "Fucking, fuck, fuck, fucker!" She cursed loudly, kicking at the baseboard with enough force to dislodge it.

Ayumu had dealt with deities long enough in their past, had centuries of experience in fact, to know of most of their tricks. And being a fighter -- and a wild animal -- themself meant that they were constantly on guard for potential threats.
It was good thing the spirit's back was turned when the deity sent out that blast of light magic because turning themself intangible was not going to stop them from getting blinded. They had already employed that trick anyway and Ayumu relied on their physical ability to twist their away from the attack instead. That did not stop the edge of the blast from nicking the spirit in the side though and Ayumu let out a small hiss followed by a bark of laughter as they hopped light-footed over the counter to put it between them.
Tumblr media
"I will give you half a point for almost landing a full blow on me," the spirit grinned, pushing their hair back with one hand and holding the trapped piskie up with the other. "But I've gotten what I came here for, sweetheart, so I'm not going to be in your hair any longer. しつれいします~" Ayumu sing-songed in their native language before disappearing in front of the deity by turning themself invisible and swiftly leaving the bar behind.
Tumblr media
Spirit. She should've seen it coming, Elena thought as the side of her skull connected sharply with the solid wood. The signs had all been there - subtle yet obvious. Perhaps she hadn't wanted to see. Reluctant to remember a part of her past that had seen her passing through objects in much of the same manner. Except she had never been able to use it to her advantage the way they had. "Someone needs to teach you some fucking manners," she growled through the ringing in her head.
It was obvious that their skills outmatched her own but she couldn't let them take advantage of some helpless creature. What kind of deity would she be? The piskie's terror feeding into her own desire to punch that douchecanoe in the face, Elena could feel something warm rapidly spreading from the center of her chest outwards. It had surprised her when they had released her, but they probably didn't think her stupid enough to try again — they wouldn't be the first to underestimate her. Twisting around, she instinctively thrust her hands out towards them, sending a shock wave of energy - of light - towards them, hoping she wouldn't completely demolish the bar in the process.

"I pity the poor souls who get on the wrong end of your stilettos," Ayumu laughed.
"So what have you been busying yourself with these days, my dear? Have your kind been behaving themselves? Most notably that clan that used to belong to your sire brother?" The spirit could not help bringing such topics up if only to bask in any new gossip that might come their way.
Tumblr media
She hummed in agreement, eyes drifting from one crowd to the next. She was truly blessed that Ayumu was here, otherwise the woman would simply have no one to talk to- at least not anyone that she could see worth talking to yet. It was still early in the day, and the park was rather large, but it looked as if it were made up of hippies and worse.
"A necessity more than a fashion statement." She pressed her lips near their cheek in return, careful not to get so much as a smudge of lipstick on them. "I happen to love gardens; it's people that tend to ruin it. I suppose we can add manners to that which we are mourning."

"Promises promises, Max," Ayumu tutted teasingly and watched them go about their business. They pulled out their phone to pair their playlist to the sound system which started playing Ayumu's genre of choice that week -- deep house.
"Then why don't you? You know I'll always take care of you," they grinned and relaxed into their seat. "And everything you get up to at Ware will strictly stay in Ware...
"As for the firepower, I figure it'd come in handy. I might have a fight scheduled at the Punch Cage at some point so something extra couldn't hurt. You'll come a cheer for me in a fight to the death, won't you?"
Tumblr media
"Careful, I just might." They sat in their artist chair, a little rolling rig that Max could sit comfortably on. They could either lean into the cushion or back into it depending on the job at hand. "Explosive? Well it's been a moment since I've gotten to practice the ole firepower." They pulled their hair up into a bun, pinning it with a hair stick before putting gloves on. "I'll let you pick the tunes and thennnn you should tell me about what I've been missing out there. I'm sure you've been up to something fun. I should really come back to your bar sometime soon. It's been a while since I've caused problems."

"I can be good when I want to be. And especially if someone is deserving of my good behaviour," Ayumu practically preened as if they felt like they had won a prize.
"But no. Not right now. I'm just excited to know that I might have an exciting fight to on the horizon. Just don't take too long, alright? I might get restless."
Tumblr media
"I'll do my best. It might take some convincing to get the answer we want." For Ursa, he just wanted to see how the fight would play out. A spirit as old as Ayumu was an interesting enough display that the demon could be tempted. Not many creatures would sign up for a match to the death though. The only that did were sure they were going to win or they didn't plan on winning.
"Oh look at that, you do know the word Father," he pointed out. "Any other stipulations you want to throw into the mix?"

"Oh, so you do have experience with the physical bodies," Ayumu answered with a light chuckle. "And here I thought you'd be one of those extremely rare blood-drinking virgins," they added with a sly smile, taking the way Chris' hand was moving along their arm to signal the man's interest.
"Why don't you do your best with me? I'd like to experience your unique style of seduction..."
Tumblr media
"Maybe I have." He reached out to gently slide a hand along Ayumu's arm. "Big scary vampire." He repeated with an amused huff. Chris honestly couldn't recall ever being able to scare someone since he'd become a vampire. "So does that mean I'm supposed to start snarling and pawing at you? Sorry it's not really my style. I think I go more for luring people in by looking all friendly. Besides, it's easier to feed when someone's muscles aren't all clenched up in fear."

"How am I not precisely that? I look the part, don't I? And I certainly feel the part too. I didn't realise that I was your type," Ayumu purred with a coy smile and reached a hand out to run their fingertips along Atlas' arm.
"Then with the celebration of life, shouldn't we also celebrate death?" the spirit asked. "One cannot have one without the other after all..." Ayumu thought they were playing into the goth persona quite nicely.
Tumblr media
"Yes," they answered. There was no need to give into Ayumu when their ego was already inflated. There were more changes to their features, it wasn't quite a beauty aura but it had disguised them. "I am," they answered. "I was hoping for a hot goth mommy and you're not that and so I'm disappointed."
It was also infuriating that they were a better looking woman than her. Atlas wouldn't take it too hard, they weren't meant to be the pretty one in the family. "Well today is also my earth day and it's generally a celebration, not a wake."

To say that Ayumu was curious was an understatement. It was not often that sinkholes opened in Vievecor City, especially the magical parts of the island and when the elves and the elders decided to cover things up, things decidedly became even more interesting.
The spirit had settled themself in a tree overlooking the area that he been cordoned off by probably more than just physical means when they noticed a rottweiler appear beneath them. And when one of the Lycaon pack's children appeared behind the dog, Ayumu could easily deduce who this might be.
"Something incriminating, perhaps? What else would call for all this secrecy?" they said and stayed resolutely up in the tree. Ayumu was not the biggest fan of dogs because they tended to chase foxes. "Are you looking to sneak in, Miss Lycaon?"
Tumblr media
Who: Gwen x Open ( @vievecorcitystarters ) When: Two days after the sink hole caved in Where: VC Park near the sinkhole.
Gwen couldn't help herself, she wanted to see the ruins. Her eyes remained fixed on the space beyond the barricades as she paced the perimeter, only breaking her concentration to keep tabs on Edgar. The goofy rottweiler was about 50 yards away chasing some squirrels as she eventually settled on a good vantage point of her target. She'd been a climber for about 15 years now, wondering how cool it would be to descend into the ruins like the characters in her favorite movie The Mummy. She registered the presence approaching her as she took a drag of her cigarette. "What do you think is down there..." she questioned out loud, not really bothering to see who'd approached.

"We are mourning the loss of many things," Ayumu hummed when they saw the vampire approach. Isabelle was always a favourite, she had been since they first met in Vievecor City so many years ago. "So yes, I suppose common sense can be one of them." They looked Isabelle up and down and gave her an approving look before leaning in to kiss her cheek as was polite.
"Thank you, my dear Isabelle. I'm enjoying your hat." As always, Isabelle was sporting a large and extremely dramatic sunhat now that she was out in the sun. "I didn't think I'd see you here. You've often told me that you do not agree with nature. Or was it the other way around?"
Tumblr media
Belle's heels clicked on the pavement. She needed to stay off the grass least she get a stain on her new pumps. The elves really should have accounted for the fashionable in their little event, but then again, they were probably running barefoot in the grass like heathens. They could call it being one with nature, but it was ridiculously savage. Spotting someone standing away from the general public feasting on whatever supposed delicacies had been put out for consumption, Belle made her way to her old friend.
"Are we morning the loss of common sense?" She might be dressed crisply in all white, but the black Ayumu wore, while fashionable, certainly stood out amongst the varying colors of those celebrating earth day. "I do love what you've done with your hair."

enemies | divya & ayumu
for: @divya-effendi location: vievecor city park
It was pretty much hate at first sight for Ayumu when it came to the Effendi coven leader. They still remembered the time many years ago when Divya was much younger and practicing spirit magic, or so she said, and ended up summoning them into her living room.
How dare she?
Who gave her the right to summon an ancient spirit like them for a practice run? Ayumu had chewed the much younger Divya Effendi out back then and disappeared in the next instant and in the years that followed, they never let the witch live it down.
"What are you doing in my presence, you third-grade witch?" the spirit sneered at Divya as she walked past them in the park that day, uncaring of how rude they came across to a coven leader because this rudeness was reserved just for her.

"Gotten used to it?" Ayumu repeated Chris' words, eyebrows arching. "Then that just makes it sound like you've gotten complacent," they tutted, eyes following the other man as he leaned in to bring them closer.
"My name is Nakatomi Ayumu. Would that help get you in the mood? Would frustrating you enough bring out that big, scary vampire that is hiding inside you?"
Tumblr media
'Masochist' wasn't really the way Chris would describe himself. At this point it was more like 'durable.' "Honestly, I don't really like getting hurt, I think I've just gotten used to it." Chris answered with a quiet scoff, mirroring the spirit's movements so they were almost touching. Being overly honest seemed to have served him better, or at least gotten him into less trouble, than trying to be clever. "You could tell me your name first. Or is that your plan? Make me so frustrated guessing that I lose it?"
