I was there, when Sploon 1 first came out. Absolutely loved the theming from the trailers and the general hype around it. unfortunately the game’s vibes werent really my type when the time came for me to play it, and the controls were too jank… I played the first game for a total of 30 mins and didnt come back to this series until last December.

Its been that long??? Man. time flies. Agent 3’s a captain now and everything. Im glad to be here, even if its this late!!

sploon1 servers going down means Cap3 is retiring from turf wars in my interp. Their disability makes them ineligible for most leagues, and for the leagues theyre allowed to participate in, they get tired too easily to really have fun anymore. Theyll be focusing on agent duties and other things outside turfing from now on…

remember this post where I talked about Splat3 animations?

I'm coming back to state my evidence, but because tumblr's weird, I can't do it as a reblog(APPARENTLY)

anyway, back to what I was actually gonna say before having to redo this post!

I went and actually looked and I'm pretty sure I'm right lol

so this requires a(hopefully) small amount of explanation first:

in Splat1, most -if not all- of the tentacle animation was baked into the animations for the models, so if you were to view them in, say, Switch Toolbox, they would move.

Splat3 doesn't do this, as(I'm assuming) it relies almost completely on physics within the game engine to make the tentacles move, so they stay in their rest position when the animation is viewed outside of the game. There are exceptions: cutscenes and the player make, for instance.

Obviously this is best seen with Callie(or Marina I guess), because unlike the player her tentacles aren't a separate file from her body.

but they don't do this with her City of Color animations

so, like any normal/functional adult would do, I did a side-by-side, almost-frame-perfect comparison between the games

please ignore how much larger Callie is in Splat1, Splat3 models are ver smol

and... yeah, it's the same animations, the only real difference is that her little hat thing goes a lot higher in the new one

this causes her tentacles to swing around a ton in the game, because it's using both methods

P.S. don't take this as me being like "bleh, game devs lazy!", I think I get why they did it, and it's just funny to me

Even though I was sad to see it go so soon, I wasn't gonna draw anything for yesterday because I never got to fully experience the first Splatoon, though after watching people stream its last moments and hear a bunch of their stories I felt this loss harder than I expected
