JOMP BPC || February 22 || Makes Me Blush:
The state of my bookshelves... between the dust and the unhaul mess they are shameful! This picture somehow makes them look decent but that's a lie of angles and filters.

The Past Is Red by Catherynne M. Valente
After the world floods and humans are left to find refuge, a large group of people live on Garbagetown, an island of floating garbage, where Tetley Abednego is the most beloved person, they just don't know it.
This was a trip. I enjoyed this a lot, but even though it's a very short book, it is dense and packs a lot into its pages. Tetley is ridiculously optimistic and I love her for that. This book is weird and fun and sad all at the same time. It will definitely get you thinking.
Recommended for: fans of post-apocolyptic books, sci-fi fans, and people curious on takes about how the world as we know it could end
Content Warnings: abuse, apocalypse

JOMP BPC - September 20th - Simple Cover
a simple cover for a not-so-simple story. I Have No Secrets is an amazing mystery with a nonverbal disabled leading lady that I absolutely loved when I read it way back when

Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson
A classic tale of pirates. Jim Hawkins is disrupted from his normal life helping with his parents' in when an old pirate dies at the inn and leaves behind a map to treasure.
This book was ok. I listened to it, and I definitely think that I need a different experience with this book. I might try to listen and read if I read this again. It wasn't bad, but I zoned out a lot and would like to give it another chance in the future.
Recommended for: people that like pirate stories, fans of classics, people looking for something to read with a middle/high school reader
Content Warnings: death, murder, mutiny, gore

Currently Listening: A Higher Loyalty by James Comey
I genuinely did not think I would be this pulled in by this book this fast, but I'm only on chapter 4 and loving this so far. Really ironic yesterday when I was listening to the prologue and was stuck behind some guy waving a confederate flag off the back of his truck (I live in NY).

Currently Reading: Frostfire by Amanda Hocking
I saw a friend in my book club started a reread, and I've had this series on my shelf for years, so I'm tagging along. I already got some solid reading in last night.

Your Heart My Sky by Margarita Engle
In the 90s, when Cuba was facing harsh embargos and little trade, the citizens were starving. This is when Liana and Amado meet, trying to find food.
I really liked this book, it was a novel in verse that was very quick and easy to read. There wasn't much chemistry between the two main characters and the end of the book felt very abrupt, but I liked how everything flowed well, and how well the book captured the feelings of the characters.
Recommended for: fans of novels in verse, people interested in stories about Cuba, and reluctant readers.
Content Warnings: starvation
