you may have talked about this already, but what was the journey like to becoming a book editor!!
It was honestly pure luck and a network, unfortunately! Although I WILL say, any networking I've done in this industry has never been with the intention of actually creating a network. I've been active in it through uni (lit studies, creative writing and publishing studies means I know people) and bookstagram (it was someone on bookstagram who helped getting me in contact with the publisher I do most of my freelancing with - but only because I asked on my stories if I could ask people about freelancing! I was very unsure of rates and stuff). I've also volunteered and done internships that have helped me. However, despite doing this for many years, it's very disheartening because it's difficult af to get into the industry here in Sweden and I've made the hard decision to move in another direction because I can't really make a living from freelancing (partly because of who I am as a person - I don't have the drive to make connections or to work from home as much as I need to). But if you're looking for advice I'd say be active in the book community and industry in other ways and opportunities will find you more easily. Good luck! Don't let my negativity stop you lmao I'm just extremely tired and don't have the drive I need right now

Mahmoud Darwish, Memory for Forgetfulness: August, Beirut, 1982 (trans. Ibrahim Muhawi) [ID'd]
on context: "[set during] the 1982 Israeli invasion of Lebanon and the shelling of Beirut [...] Memory for Forgetfulness is an extended reflection on the invasion and its political and historical dimensions. It is also a journey into personal and collective memory. What is the meaning of exile? What is the role of the writer in time of war? What is the relationship of writing (memory) to history (forgetfulness)?" (source)

Happy World Book Day!
Throwback pic of our stacks before everything got enclosures.
Boxes are good! They keep our books clean and safe! But we miss seeing the rows of spines in these beautiful, well-loved and well-used collections!
