ok so i was just thinking about how the "pay-off" of the van scene might go

at some point mike and elle would talk (shocker ik) and mike would ask about the painting - maybe to confirm/ deny any suspicions he had (if he used his braincells) and if not then for some other mike reason

elle would obviously be like ??? and 'what's a commission??' and mike could be like 'uh you know the painting you told will to paint?' and elle would go 'what painting??' and mike would be like nvm

then mike would go to will and this could happen:

mike: hey will so i just asked elle about the painting and uh she seemed like she had no idea what i was talking about... what's up with that?...

will (if he plays it smart): *visibly trying not to combust* 'oh!... uh.. i- .... *sigh*... I'm sorry.. I may have just told you it was from her back in the van... because i thought... that's what you needed to hear that moment...

mike: ...so...it was from you...?

will: ...*avoids eye contact and shrugs*

mike: *making heart eyes* well thank you ... but knowing it's from you just makes me cherish it even more...

and it would be another 'cool.cool' moment anyway i just needed to get this out of my brain

One of my favorite trope for Steddie is Steve hunting down Eddie when the kids join Hellfire and giving him a long list of dos and donts.

At first Eddie thinks he’s just being a prick, and worried he’s going to turn the nerds into freaks like him. Especially when he says not to mention drugs in front of Dustin.

But then he starts pulling out lists of monsters that can’t be in campaigns. And like what??? Why can’t he use demagorgons? They were gonna be in the next combat! He’s tempted to ignore the warnings, in fact he’s all set to, but something about Steve’s face when he was laying it all out haunts him. Something so deadly serious about it. So first he decides to test the waters to see if he’s full of shit.

When the session starts, he makes a throwaway comment, “you’re acting like there’s a mindflayer around the corner.”

All the kids freeze but Wheeler especially looks like he’s going to be sick. He even grabs at the bracelet around his wrist. The one he always said his best friend made him before he moved.

Eddie curses himself for even trying to test it out after that, and immediately bullshits the whole session so he can scrap any hint of demogorgans from the campaign.

After that session he drives straight to Harringtons house and demands they go over all the things he can’t include again, in detail, while he takes notes.

He doesn’t know what’s going on with these freshmen, but he knows trauma when he sees it and well he’d gotten attached to the gremlins.

When he leaves that night, he thinks Steve is looking at him with approval. Like he trusts him with their well-being now.

and then the end of s4 shows us will in the light, indicating the shift of perspective, showing us will the way mike sees him:

then season 5 is written from mike’s perspective fully and this is mike’s perspective. this is how will looks to mike:

now let that sink in that will from mike’s pov is wearing green. mike sees a part of himself in will when he looks at him.

Just wanted to add that since the original shoes that are now being reversed are from s2 it could mean that their roles are reversed as in Mike is the one fighting over control of himself with vecna/mindflayer/being stuck in the upside down and Will is the one having to save him...

Just saying... their roles from s2 being reversed just like the shoes...

So we've seen Mike wearing Will's shoes in s5 for whatever reason.... but could it be symbolism?

in simple words, literally AND figuratively Mike is putting himself in Will's shoes. figuratively, because s5 Mike is going to experience what s4 Will went through. Their roles are going to be reversed.

the phrase "to put yourself in someone else's shoes" is to experience (or at least imagine) what they went/are going through.

firstly, s4 was strictly filmed from Will's pov, showing almost nothing from Mike's. this does make it feel as if mikes character arc has been left on a cliff hanger since the ending of s3, where we did get to see more into Mike's mind, and that spoke a lot to us.

so far, what we can confirm is that Will Byers is in love with Mike Wheeler, mostly from his pov being the main focus of the love triangle in s4. they made it clear for us. yet, Mike's perspective is still blurry.

thats the main reason why i think it would only make sense for s5 to show Mike's pov a LOT, and reveal some things that weren't necessarily obvious in s4 (for one, Mike's feelings for Will).

knowing we're finally going to be seeing Mike's pov, we'll see him pining over Will, just like Will did s4. they are going to switch their roles on screen, we'll see Mike, now that he doesn't have to deal with his relationship issues with El and his (not necessarily) new issue of how he doesn't think Will could ever love him back. and Will, is going to be trying to resolve issues with his connections to vecna.

my main point is, the writers are going to figuratively put Mike in wills shoes. Mike is going to be pining over Will this season, and it will be explicitly shown this time.

So apparently Bylers and Midlevens can agree that if the Duffers want to write a smart and good ending, they would make Byler endgame. The only difference is that Bylers fully know the Duffers are capable of writing (and will write) that smart and good ending while Midlevens are just hoping that the Duffers are too dumb and too bad of writers to write that smart and good ending.

(If you have to cling onto the belief that the writers are too dumb and too bad at their jobs in order for you to have hope in your ship...that is really embarrassing!!)
