So we all know that Tumblr is US-centric. But to what degree? (and can we skew the results of this poll by posting it at a time where they should be asleep?)
Reblog to increase sample size!

the idea that restrooms, locker rooms, etc need to be single-sex spaces in order for women to be safe is patriarchy's way of signalling to men & boys that society doesn't expect them to behave themselves around women. it is directly antifeminist. it would be antifeminist even if trans people did not exist. a feminist society would demand that women should be safe in all spaces even when there are men there.

I get a little annoyed at how writings don't give Native North American peoples any agency in agricultural technologies
Domestication takes hundreds or thousands of years to accomplish, so it's weird to me that so many sources claim that food plants native to North America were cultivated into existence after European settlement, from a "wild" ancestor into a highly desirable crop
Take for example, the famous Concord grape. Supposedly it was bred from wild ancestors in a few years by just one guy.
With pecans, the word itself is Algonquin, so it's harder to deny that Native Americans cultivated them, but supposedly "domestication began in the 1800's". and as the source says, "wild-type" pecans are perfectly acceptable for sale in the market
And then there is nonsense like all the sources that will tell you pawpaws are an "evolutionary anachronism" from when they were distributed by giant ground sloths and other megafauna, as though humans don't count.
Are we to believe that indigenous peoples knew nothing of plant breeding? When the Cherokee were given peaches, apples, and watermelon, they adopted the new plants for use in their orchards and soon developed their own breeds.
Don't even get me started on all the plants that were almost lost and largely not used anymore, like Rivercane and the American Chestnut.

im noticing that for a lot of americans “free palestine” has been an ideological motto and symbol rather than them actually believing in their heart that freedom is attainable and necessary

the Columbia University arrests are worse than they seem. They're arresting protesting students for trespassing. It goes without saying students cannot meaningfully "trespass" in the common areas of a university they attend. So Columbia University has suspended all student protestors from their institution, in the process revoking their access to housing, their belonging, and most crucially damaging their academic futures. We are witnessing full scale silencing and removal of anyone of conscience from the next generation of academia.

“If a society puts half its children into short skirts and warns them not to move in ways that reveal their panties, while putting the other half into jeans and overalls and encouraging them to climb trees, play ball, and participate in other vigorous outdoor games; if later, during adolescence, the children who have been wearing trousers are urged to “eat like growing boys,” while the children in skirts are warned to watch their weight and not get fat; if the half in jeans runs around in sneakers or boots, while the half in skirts totters about on spike heels, then these two groups of people will be biologically as well as socially different. Their muscles will be different, as will their reflexes, posture, arms, legs and feet, hand-eye coordination, and so on. Similarly, people who spend eight hours a day in an office working at a typewriter or a visual display terminal will be biologically different from those who work on construction jobs. There is no way to sort the biological and social components that produce these differences. We cannot sort nature from nurture when we confront group differences in societies in which people from different races, classes, and sexes do not have equal access to resources and power, and therefore live in different environments. Sex-typed generalizations, such as that men are heavier, taller, or stronger than women, obscure the diversity among women and among men and the extensive overlaps between them… Most women and men fall within the same range of heights, weights, and strengths, three variables that depend a great deal on how we have grown up and live. We all know that first-generation Americans, on average, are taller than their immigrant parents and that men who do physical labor, on average, are stronger than male college professors. But we forget to look for the obvious reasons for differences when confronted with assertions like ‘Men are stronger than women.’ We should be asking: ‘Which men?’ and ‘What do they do?’ There may be biologically based average differences between women and men, but these are interwoven with a host of social differences from which we cannot disentangle them.”

This man literally wants to become a dictator. Whether he WILL or not is another question, but the fact that he openly WANTS to and staged Jan. 6th should concern you enough on its own.
anyway. i think most people left of mainstream US liberal are uh. insufficiently scared of Trump. this has become a cringe take over the years but i think electing him again has a really terrifying set of tail outcomes that are unlikely but possible

i promise you don't have to waste your body on someone who only tolerates it.
you do NOT have to be with someone who hides you from friends.
you do NOT have to be with someone who leads you on.
you do NOT have to be with someone who abuses you in any way.
i don't care how fat you are. someone out there will adore every inch of you and beg to be yours.
i promise.

As a kid, when your parents are poor, you're poor. If they don't have money, that means none of you have money. But if someone's parents are rich, that doesn't necessarily mean the kid is. Sometimes rich peoples' kids aren't rich kids, they're just some rich freak's exotic pets that can talk but aren't allowed to.
#i mean my working class parents did this shit too so idk why rich people wouldn't#and my dad has relative financial stability now and still does it#like. he went into my house unannounced sometime in november while i was at work#and pulled up our floor to replace some bits that were soft#but then he just left it half-done for MONTHS through the holidays and i had to beat him over the fucking head about it for it to get done#in LATE FEBRUARY.#i was walking on ~Ply Wood~ for 4 months#during this time he spent thousands of my mom's life insurance dollars paving his already perfectly good driveway.#but he “couldn't manage” to finish what he started WITHOUT WARNING OR PERMISSION in my trailer house. that's right. trailer house.#my trailer house living room floor was “too expensive” for him to fix.#that man is awful for a lot of much bigger reasons but this is just one recent example of his behavior#if it had been his floor it would've been done in a week#“well the floor was cluttered” “well paving my driveway was really expensive” “well uh I'll get it done eventually” fuck off#i live on his property so I can't do much if he decides to barge the fuck in like that. but jfc.#he has the audacity to be like “hmm i don't want you to paint over the wood panelling (<- doesn't even like wood panelling himself)”#after all that#no#I'm painting my goddamn house with my fucking money. i live here. i'm going to make it look like I live here.#you didn't ask before messing with MY SHIT unannounced so I'm not asking before doing this#sorry for the rant I'm still mad about it#he said himself that replacing our floor was like. $400-500. Which isn't cheap but i know for sure he HAD that money the whole time#and just didn't want to spend it because it didn't personally affect him specifically.#i wouldn't be as mad if he asked before starting a project like that either but he just waltzed right on in without saying a word#i got back from a long day just to see that my house looked and smelled like a fuckin home depot#i couldn't decorate for christmas. i couldn't invite anyone over for the holidays. my sister spent her BIRTHDAY like that.#how else am i supposed to feel about that#I'd move out but i can't afford rent with my current job even living with my sister and splitting the bills#and my dad knows this and wants us to remember it#he doesn't know I'm queer or trans and if he did he'd kick me out in a heartbeat#so i just have to deal with getting deadnamed and misgendered including at work. shit sucks
