Small Oceanfalls-Related Details FAQ
Hello! I have written up a list of answers to question about some things in Oceanfalls that I've been asked to clarify several times, so hopefully this clears any small confusions up.
There are unmarked spoilers in these answers from the start of Oceanfalls up to the newest page here, so tread with caution.
Everything is contained below the cut.
The year is 4529. The story starts on 5/15.
The current date up to here is 5/16, and the time is late morning.
Suvillan's birthday is happening on 5/17. This is also five's birthday date. it is also Oceanfalls' own anniversary date IRL!? The story starts three days before this date.
Here is a list of birthdates that includes everyone. It includes their in-universe zodiac signs as well, just for funsies.
After Reconstruct, the party conclude that Five is aged at least 11 years old. She is a child that is mentally younger than her physical age by a fair bit.
A healing ability does not revive the dead. Healing does not equal resurrection. Nino cannot bring a person who has died back to life, including himself.
Certain areas under the dome appear dark even in daylight. One such place is Hyouga, where Reed and Aria currently are. Meanwhile, sunlight can more easily seep into certain areas, such as the desert where Nino and Mei are, but the time of day is about the same for everyone right now.
Every appearance of Nino is biologically male with the exception of Nina, who is biologically female. This is why the narration regards her as the unique one due to having one of the most distinguishing differences among each "Nino" we've seen.
Reed's family was composed of Professor Zachery Lumen (father), Doctor Anise Lumen (mother), Ruby Lumen (first child, oldest daughter), Reed Lumen himself (middle child, son), and "Eidolon" (last child, youngest daughter), who is a young teen currently in school.

I realized I might've misunderstood Anon's original question, so I'm writing a more comprehensive follow-up to this answer here.
My original answer concerns only the full revival of someone who has died. For the purposes of complete resurrection, note that a person is only considered whole when they possess their original mind, body, and soul at once.
Hence, a full revival must involve bringing back the deceased's soul into their body to house it & have their mind control it again. This is near-impossible to accomplish as stated in the original answer.
For something more like necromancy, which I'll define as reanimating a soulless corpse like a puppet, that is a possible ability for anyone to awaken given the right circumstances! They could raise a dead-zombie-army as their minions under some kind of limitation, such as a time-limit or a focus gauge, similar to the limitations we see imposed on people's abilities in Oceanfalls.
Necromancy and similar powers would be classified as conducting abilities, where physical dead-bodies are influenced and controlled through the user's mind.
That's it for the answer to Anon's question. I got a few more inquiries related to this on the Oceanfalls Discord, which I'm gonna address here below the cut!
Q. "Are there abilities to manipulate the soul of people? Can be extracting or destroying someone’s soul, calling the soul of a deceased person to communicate or fight with them."
Yes to all, except for destruction. I'll break this answer down.
First, there are abilities that tamper with the intangible soul, and they tend to take an extraordinary effort to master and use. To make this sound less vague to you, I will first define what we can really do with a soul in Oceanfalls!
They are the essence of a person, and the "truth" of who they are. If this truth is shaken at its core, then the mind and body would unquestionably follow suit. Because of this, tampering with a soul induces a ripple-effect of changes to a person.
Suvillan Eios III's ability involved tying the lifespans of others with his own, so that if he died, they'd die too. That way, they're forced to serve him and protect his life just as much as their own, if not more. This ability, binding the lives of two people together, involves tampering with the target's soul and connecting to with the user's. Normally, the target would have only died if their body or mind expired, or took fatal damage. Instead, the body and mind would now cease functioning as soon as the death condition imposed on the soul activated, no matter how many years of life they had left in store.
Next, there are abilities that do not tamper with a soul, but only commune with it, doing so whether the soul belongs to someone who is dead or alive. These abilities take less of a toll on their user than those that tamper with a soul.
Since souls are the "truth" of a person, abilities that detect lies involve being able to see living people's souls, and gauge subtle disturbances in its state to detect abnormal behaviors. This is classified as a seeing power, where the user's eyes can witness the intangible soul of anyone they choose. Abilities that can detect of another person is using an ability too work very similarly, in being able to sense the activity of a soul without necessarily seeing it. They are classified as sensing powers if they do not involve sight.
Another one is the ability to communicate with the soul of a deceased person. This is similar to mediumship, one of the ability examples given on Diana's notes on abilities (bottom right)! It is another seeing power where the user can channel and speak with the intangible essence of the deceased.
Finally, I'm going to address the part of the question that mentions destroying a person's soul. This is impossible.
Death happens when the mind and body cease functioning, and so, the soul is forced to depart its body. Sometimes, some abilities can control living souls, or call back certain deceased souls, but none can outright destroy a soul, and not all deceased souls can be easily called upon using the aforementioned abilities.
The easiest (relatively speaking) soul to call back is one of a person with lingering worldly regrets, and the most difficult, if not outright impossible, is the soul of one who died contented and prepared to move on. Things beyond the world of the living, like completely destroying a soul, are out of the question.
Q. "By combining the two above abilities, we can imagine something close to what you wrote on Tumblr; a soul possesses a dead body. Does the body have to be the correct one?"
No, it does not have to be.
When the soul is channeled through an ability user's own body, it would be a variant of mediumship. When the soul is channeled through another body, it would be an approximation of a complete revival.
Neither of those scenarios count as complete revivals, since the soul is not being housed in its original body and mind.
We have an idea of mediumship so I won't go on about it, but the idea of an incomplete revival is interesting. In this case, the soul must now accustom itself to a new and unfamiliar mind-body set, and is at risk of being forcibly ejected if it cannot acclimate.
If the new mind-body set is actually a corpse of a dead person, then this new soul is subject to the same constraints present in a complete revival, where the dead body continued to decay, setting a time-limit that could end the revival process.
If the new body is that of a living person, then you now have two souls competing to control one mind-body set. Broadly speaking, there are two possibilities here: rejection or acceptance.
With rejection, the invading soul would ultimately have to force the original soul to eject if they want to fully take over. And if they fail to do so, they would be forced to depart again.
With acceptance, you'd now have a single body and mind with two souls, probably leading to a lot of friction in identity (we are mixing two "truths" here), but ultimately coexisting for as long as possible. But this way, someone who has died can effectively live a second life, provided they succeed in harmonizing with a new body and mind in some way here!
"Q. True resurrection makes it so death never took place. This seems out of reach for mortals and wingeds alike, maybe not for celestials, but who knows?"
I don't tend to define that as resurrection. To me, the word resurrection itself implies dying at least once and then coming back to life in some form, and if the form is complete (per the original mind-body-soul requirement), then it's a complete resurrection.
Making it so that "death never took place" goes beyond life and death to two possibilities in my mind: either it's real reality-altering powers, or it's memory-altering powers.
In these cases, we would either make people forget that death of someone took place, or alter reality itself so that the death has never taken place, while every other event stays the same. Depending on scale and application, these abilities are likely far too great for ordinary people, or even the winged, as you've noted.
Q. "What if some ability to revert time was used to revert a death?"
That lies under the two possibilities I mentioned in the previous answer. This is no longer in the realm of resurrection, but goes beyond it to alter either reality itself, or people's memories. I wrote about time-related abilities here if you're curious.
has there ever been anyone with a necromancy ability raising dead n shit
Not more than can be counted on a single hand in the entire history of the universe up to Oceanfalls, probably!
Revival of the dead is an incredibly rare occurrence. If accomplished, they certainly do not return in the best of shape, nor can they live again for long. There is only one example of such a thing right now, and it was only accomplished because of the incredible amount of potential that lies in a celestial's wish. This is not an ability that can be held by anybody ordinary.
As for the logistics of it, revived souls effectively re-possess their dead bodies which continue to decay, so they are basically animating rotting flesh as a puppet. When the decay process completes, the soul will no longer have a vessel to possess, and the mind will cease functioning, which fully ends the revival.
Since we're on the topic of revival, I should mention that healers cannot revive. Nino cannot bring back the dead with his ability. The revival described in this post is completely separate and is many levels beyond the healing abilities we're seeing in Oceanfalls.
