Cypress's fur had made the complete transition to orange in the last few weeks. Well, the mane was still white, but it was now tinted a peach color rather than the pink tint it had before.
Steven also noticed while he pet Cypress that their fur had become softer, though that might have had to do with the fact that Steven actually washed Cypress instead of abandoning them in a desert like some people.
It also might be a good time to mention that Cypress had chosen to take a nap on Steven's lap, in turn completely immobilizing the Orange Gem.
Soon, the door to the house opened, showing a happy Pearl, Garnet, and Amethyst.
"Hey guys, how are you doing?" Said Steven.
"Fine" Said Garnet.
"We just successfully isolated Rose's Moss" Said Pearl excitedly.
"The one that has a higher human casualty count than all the Corrupted Gems combined?" Steven asked. It was true, mainly because Corrupted Gems did not attack humans very often and Steven's own task forces are pretty good at keeping people away from them. Still, twenty seven people is still high, especially sense the Moss has existed for less than one hundred years.
"Yep!" Said Pearl, a note of confidence in her voice that sparked suspicion in Steven.
He'd have to check it out later, after Cypress woke up. It shouldn't be too bad, it isn't like the thing was going to kill anyone before the end of the day.
Right?
■●■●■●■●■●■●■●■●■●■●■
(Yes, Steven does have a Human Task force that deals with Corrupted Gems. They don't actually solve the problem, they just keep people away from the thing and sometimes drive the thing off, then alert the Crystal Gems. Human weaponry is pretty bad at dealing with Corruptions).
(Next time on Orange Steven AU: Steven has to save some teenagers from the moss, and questions the boundaries of human stupidity).

When Steven woke up, hands were wrapped around him, given that they seemed to ignore the concept of temperature, they were likely Gem hands.
Then Steven worked out who it was.
"Hey Amethyst"
Amethyst didn't respond, she just hugged him tighter like she was trying to warm up. Well, he did feel cold, but Steven didn't think that a Gem could really warm up a person.
Steven was willing to just hug back. What ever had happened had made him feel pretty awful.
○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○
The hug had lasted a good 5 minutes, at which point Steven was getting kind of sick of it.
"Um, Amethyst?"
"Yeah Steven?"
"What happened? The last thing I remember is pressing my hand against Nora orb-thingy" he asked.
Amethyst explained what she knew, and that Nora and her friend was safe.
Steven looked around.
"Shouldn't... Shouldn't we get out of here? I remember you saying it was kind of dangerous" Steven said.
Amethyst nodded, and they began walking to the door.

"Oh, um, I'm Connie. Ma'am. Connie Maheswaren".
The nervous look on the young girl's face barely registered to Amethyst. She was used to humans acting weirdly around her. She simply wasn't like the other Crystal Gems. Garnet could pass for human so long as she wore her glasses, and Rose and Pearl had to actively convince people they weren't human. Amethyst, wasn't like that. She had bright purple skin that marked her as different.
"So, would you two explain to me what happened?" Amethyst asked.
Nora began to talk very quickly, going over things in a disorganized and out of order fashion, even periodically repeating the same topics. It seemed kind of scary. For one thing, Pearl was going to freak out that Nora's bubble was so different from Rose's.
She had enough trouble hiding from Pearl that Nora's shield was the mirror image of Rose's shield, rather than being the same thing.
Suddenly, Connie piped up once more.
"I'm surprised, you managed to fit a room this large under the lighthouse"
"It's actually an interdimensional space. Don't ask how that works, Rose built it, not me. There are actually a few other rooms..." Amethyst began, before cutting herself off.
"You know, neither of you are technically supposed to be here. Um..."
Amethyst glowed and changed shape, becoming a helicopter. Then looked at the dumbfounded Connie and Nora.
"Well, hop on!"
It took them only a few minutes to get to the temple door, which Amethyst opened back into the beach house.
"I'll talk to you when Steven wakes up!" Amethyst yelled out, before closing the door behind them.

Sunset Aura Quartz sliced downward through the center of the fusion, forcing it to turn back into it's swarming form. They also grabbed the Heaven Beetle and nestled it gingerly into their hair, an impressive feat, given that they were moving at several hundred times the speed of sound.
As Sunset landed, the selenite swarm reformed into a fusion, one notable smaller than the last. That was do to one of Sunset Aura Quartz's special powers, the ability to poof, bubble, and send off, all in one strike. It was do to this ability that they were able to take out a selenite at all, even if it was just an adaptation of Pearl's natural precision applied to Steven's exceptional area control.
On the next slash, the selenites didn't re-fuse, instead chosing to attack in the form of a swarm. This did not pose a threat to Sunset in the slightest. Their speed and grace made them appear, at least across short distances, to merely disappear from one location only to reappear in another, an effect adapted from Pearl's finesse and agility, and Steven's strength and controlling aura. Allowing for perfectly soundless motion and seemingly impossible starts and stops, as if the concept of momentum was taken as a meek suggestion.
The orange samurai's long, straight blade cut quietly threw the snapping screeches of corrupted birds. The selenite swarm failing to move even a single hair on the eight foot tall fusions head no matter how they moved, much to the serene pleasure of the Heaven Beetle, which had taken the opportunity to take a nap.
Soon enough the swarm had vanished, over a hundred corrupted Gems poofed and bubbled in a less than a minute by the silent figure. An unheard breath was taken, and they walked soundlessly to the warp pad.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
Garnet had returned to the temple much earlier than expected, the Earth Beetle turned out to be almost completely unguarded. The only thing she had to worry about was Lava, but that was more relaxing than threatening. Now she was just waiting for Steven and Pearl to return.
Of course, when the warp pad finally activated, Garnet got a second surprise. She had assumed Pearl hadn't had enough time yet to recover from discovering Lion, so had insisted on someone going with her so she would have someone to talk to about it.
She did not expect to see Sunset Aura Quartz.
The reticent fusion was a rarity, but always a welcome one in Garnet's eyes. They always seemed to be poised and calm, like no force in the world could make them move. Pearl and Steven rarely made them, mainly sense they simply didn't talk all that often. Steven had been known to be busy, and Pearl liked to be independent.
Whatever had happened, Sunset stood in front of her now, waiting for her to acknowledge their presence.
Garnet looked them in the eye, and they bowed. Once their head reached her eye level, a white and yellow Beetle with a Gem set on her back poked out of their hair.
Garnet smiled and lightly pulled it out, placing it in a cage with the Earth Beetle, before bubbling it and sending it to her room.
When Sunset stood back up, they began to glow white, and then became cracked as their physical form dissolved into orange cherry blossoms, leaving Steven and Pearl standing in the center of the swirling flower petals.
■●■●■●■●■●■●■●■●■●■●■
(Just to clear things up, Sunset is willingly mute. They can speak, they just never want to. When they want to communicate, they either do so through action, or unfuse.)
(Next time on Orange Steven AU: Rose is still in her Room, and the consequences of this state).

I suck at art, always have, likely always will.
However, I can do it somewhat passably in terms of getting the idea across.
This, if you couldn't already tell, is Sunset Aura Quartz. Well, besides the green stalk in their hair, that is the Heaven Beetle, she's sleeping in there.
This is a teaser for the next chapter.

This is Sunset Aura Quartz's sword and Gems. The reason the gaurd is a sphere instead of a an oval is because it is adapted from Steven's Morning Star.

Thank You!!!
Tumblr media
This is a Sunset Aura Quartz. It's a variety of Rainbow Quartz, which refers to a Quartz Crystal that has been coated in a thin layer of titanium dioxide (rutile) so that the thin film interference creates a rainbow sheen. When this effect is applied to things other than clear quartz, the result is called an "aura" quartz. Sunset Aura Quartz is what you get when you apply the process to Tangerine Quartz.
I just thought that this was interesting. It is however important to know for collapsedverse, sense chemically related Gems usually make chemically related fusions in this multiverse. Any Diamond fusing with any Pearl will most likely make a variety of Aura Quartz. There are exceptions, sense the variety of Gemstone is selected by the personality of the resulting fusion, but sense most Gems of the same variety act alike, the fusions are often similar.
Garnet is actually an exception, by the way. A Ruby and a Saphire don't normally fuse into a form of pyralspite, but rather into another form of rutilated corundum based on the color of the Saphire component (in the case of a ruby and a blue saphire, the result would normally be a Violet Star Saphire). The reason Ruby and Saphire of the Crystal Gems form Garnet is because Ruby is unusually introspective and calculated by the standards of a typical Ruby, and more importantly, because Saphire is unusually outgoing, brash, and confident.

The roar of a corrupted Selenite was pretty unmistakable, mainly because of how loud a corrupted fusion could be. Thankfully, he and Pearl had faced this type of corrupted Gem before, Pearl more so than him.
Selenites existed only as a swarm or a fusion, and never as an individual. Their tendency to break the rest of their cohorts out of bubbles made it nearly impossible for the Crystal Gems to take out. He and Rose could get close on their own, utilizing there ranged, crowd controlling abilities, but they didn't have the ability to contain the whole swarm at once.
It didn't leave them a lot of options, but it did leave them one. So, holed up inside the entrance to the main area of the spire, Steven turned to Pearl.
"Well, you know what we need to do as well as anyone. Question is, are you up to it?" Steven said, a polite concern in his voice. If she wasn't, then they'd just have to run. Not a terrible option, it isn't like the Heaven Beetle is going anywhere, but it wasn't completing their mission.
Pearl nodded and held out her hand. She closed her eyes, and appeared to be hiding her emotions somewhat. Not that Steven could know why.
With a mental promise not to keep going if Pearl seemed uncomfortable, Steven touched her hand lightly. A glow appeared at their gems, and the cheery sound of bells and piano filled the air.
Pearl and Steven circled one another, fingers touching lightly. After one complete rotation, Pearl spun around in place and ended in a ballet pose. Then she spun back towards Steven, who moved with her so that they ended in a pose more suited for a ballroom than dance recital. Instead of going into a partnered dance however, the first step they took turned them into a glowing mass of light.
Pearl and Steven gemstones altered, becoming a light orange in color, and shimmering oddly as if coated in partial mirrors. Their lights merged into a single figure, still coated in light, but distinctly different in silhouette from either Steven or Pearl.
The light exploded from the outline of the fusion, and that light coalesced into the form of peach colored cherry petals that danced around the newly formed charecter.
The figure took the appearance of Steven's suit and Pearl's ballerina outfit and formed them into a Japanese armor, turning the skirt and coattails into the layered Kusazuri of a samurai. Steven's long, strait coat sleeves turned into the armor's protective arms. Their hair combined and affected a kabuto helmet.
As the petals fell around them, they reached to their forehead and throat. Pulling out Steven's morning star and Pearl's Spear, the fusion spun the two together. In a bright flash of light the eight foot tall, orange figure now held a large, single bladed sword.
With a look of focused determination, Sunset Aura Quartz charged into battle.

(In Collapsedverse, when gems fuse they emit music in line with their musical motif. It hasn't really come up, sense whenever gems have fused so far, it would have messed with the stories flow, but it is happening).

Yeah, I need to take a break from collapsedverse for a bit. Really from tumblr in general. It's become a source of stress for me, and I can't afford that mentally right now.
So, on hiatus until further notice, thought I'd let you know.
Stay safe!

Amethyst carried Steven for a bit before finding a steel bath tub to put him in. She turned to Connie and Nora.
"Don't move you two. I'll be back in a second, need to go find my liquid nitrogen" she said, before running off in the form of a leopard
They stayed quiet for several minutes, Connie merely appearing nervous and Nora looking like she wanted to spout out feelings at the top of her lungs. Eventually Nora couldn't take the quiet anymore.
She wisely took a deep breathe before asking her question, not particularly wanting to be caught in an avalanche in Amethyst's comically messy room.
"What's liquid nitrogen?"
It took Connie a few seconds to realize that she was the one being asked, she calmed down a little as school instincts took over.
"It's a cryogenic fluid. Uh, that just means that it is really, really cold" Connie said, nearly sounding confident before stammering out the last line.
"Um, okay" Nora said, hoping that she'd have something to go into a conversation with.
Thankfully, Amethyst arrived carrying a violet bubble with a weirdly shaped, metal bottle floating inside.
The lavender skinned gem burst the bubble and quickly grabbed the tank before it hit the ground.
Opening the lid, Amethyst began pouring the contents of the bottle over Steven's limbs and head. The liquid was clear and appeared to be boiling, but where it touched Steven's skin, the surface ceased glowing for a second.
Of course, it was a relatively small tank. It ran out quickly. When the odd boiling liquid stopped flowing, Amethyst put down the tank.
"One second" Amethyst said, with clear annoyance in her voice.
Amethyst shapeshifted into an owl and flew off. Keeping to her word, she was flying back to them about a second or two later, carrying a Gem powered object in her talons.
The device was nozzle-like, with a hose and sprayer at one end. The Gemstone was irregularly shapped, but symmetrical, white and opaque.
She fitted the nozzle to the discarded tank, and then somehow turned on the device. It made an odd whooshing sound, and then began to spray liquid.
She pointed the sprayer into the tub, and it began to fill up. As most of Steven's body became submerged, he began to glow even under the liquid.
At first Nora was nervous at that sight. But calmed down once she amsaw that Amethyst was actually pleased with that sight.
Amethyst finally gained the courage to look away from Steven for a bit, and turned to Connie and Nora.
"Don't think I've seen you around before?" She said to Connie "I'm Amethyst. What's your name?"

"Thanks for coming along, Steven" Pearl exclaimed.
"You're welcome" Said Steven, his voice have a polite dryness to it.
"I'd hate to have to come all this way with Amethyst. We'd probably be at each other's throats by now!" Said Pearl, nearly in a yell.
"You two really need to work on your relationship" Steven said, keeping his voice polite even though he was annoyed.
Thankfully they were nearly done. They only had to jump some gaps and they'd be at the top of the spire. Then all they needed to do was grab the Heaven Beetle and then leave.
Of course, if it were that simple, Garnet wouldn't have insisted that two people go.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
Steven hated being right at times. They get to the top of the spire, find the Heaven Beetle's house, and they aren't there. He assumed something like this would happen and had been careful not to speak it out loud lest he jinx it. Of course, Garnet had already predicted it, so it probably didn't matter.
"Uhg! Where is it! Steven, why aren't you helping?! Help me look for it!" Pearl yelled.
Steven stared on, his square pupilled eyes narrow.
"Pearl, I have super senses. We don't need to panic".
Steven closed his eyes and listened for the Heaven Beetle. Members of Gemkind were pretty obvious to him, sense they moved around even though they didn't have an internal structure. Plus, they buzzed slightly, the energy within them making a hum that was outside human range of hearing, outside of usual Gem hearing ranges as well. Obvious to him though.
Which was why he heard the thing that ate the Heaven Beetle before he found the Heaven Beetle.
"Pearl?" Steven asked.
"Yes Steven" Pearl said.
Just then, a roar sounded off like an alarm close by.
"We need to Run. Now"
