Stuff kids on tumblr better relearn

1. You are responsible for your own media experience. 

2. There is such a thing as a healthy level of avoidance towards topics that make you feel unwell or even (in a real-life clinical definition of the term) trigger you - but you are the one to actively take care of what you view.

3. Avoiding does not mean policing others.

4. You have no right to tell artists to censor themselves - you may criticize what others do, you may dislike it, that’s fine - but actively asking for censorship when you could easily unfollow or block a person just makes you look incompetent in your use of the internet.

5. Do not give people on tumblr or /any/ website the responsibility for your emotional well-being. Because these people do not even know you so no, you have no right to ask them to take care of you.

some notes on rendering dark eyes

obligatory notice that these are my opinions/my style etc. the quality of the art is not a focus here the technique is. my sources are that ive witnessed maybe 3 people with light eyes in my entire 2 decades of life + im extremely impatient w art so i look for the quickest solution

your 2 main considerations are going to be depth and reflection. that's it. go wild.

your 3rd secret consideration is if the eyes are black, or brown.

super dark eyes are reflective. they're a mirrored black surface, so they hardly absorb or obstruct light. the paradox, though, is that because the eyes are so dark, you can't make out the reflection.

this is an overstylised eye. while not a realistic depiction, i think adding the surrounding canvas colors and lighting into the iris itself is a good way to add depth to an otherwise static element. both eyes will have different reflective elements depending on the surroundings.

on a digital swatch, i recommend picking a mid-dark gray tone while also selecting the color of another central element on your page. the less detail the better is ideal for dark eyes, since, well, unless under bright sun/LED lighting, you do NOT see the pupil.

some examples. one bright white/close to white highlight, i've found, is usually enough to push the right intention.

even with slightly lighter/better lit eyes, you tend to see a suggestion of the pupil rather than the pupil itself. both of these eyes are well lit, but neither have the center quite as clear as it would be on a lighter eye (yellow for an example, but blues/greens/hazels behave similarly).

since both of these eyes are brown, not black, they have more overt depth and variation to them. unlike the desaturated tones youd use for a darker eye, hue and saturation is more of a 'fuck around till it works,' with way more colors involved. there are five different browns used above. (also, for this particular style, the circular symmetry tool + blur is your friend.)

as a bonus, have my White Boy Jumpscare compilation from when i was trying to understand blue eyes. did you know the pupil is rarely an actual circle?!?
