Can you tell me something about Larak? I wanna romance the big boy and be hauled around like a potato sack. Is gay relationships normal with orcs? I don't want him to feel awkward if I call him magnificent.

Yes and No.

Having gay relations isn’t uncommon for Orcs. As most warriors use sex as a way to unload some of their pent up emotions— that they tend to release on the battlefield (or all of said emotions weren’t gone completely)— or because they wish to pass the time.

Having gay relationships is uncommon in the sense that most Orcs wish to continue their lineage, which means they try to find a compatible female to do so with. Not to say that there aren’t any, but it’s not the norm among Orcs.

I think Larak would feel awkward not because you’re calling him that, but simply because he’s not used to such emotions being displayed openly. Soft feelings— like affection— aren’t commonplace among Orcs; it’s why such a soft bean like Larak had learn to harden so quickly or else he’d be disposed of if too much weakness was noticed.

He’d slowly learn to accept the affection, and the little things you call him, and begin to call you flœrān in return. A word that he created himself because there isn’t a word for flower within his species language, and you deserve to have something wholly unique (like you are).

What does our family look like?

Roan Eirlys

A man of a tall stature, Ser Roan of The North, stands at around 6’6” with a bulky, muscular physique. Despite his time training in the art of the blade, as well as his time on The Front, he’s never enjoyed the sight of blood. White hair falls beneath his jawline, complementing the fairness of his complexion, and the argent shade of his gaze.

He has a thick beard, typically styled neatly.

Anora Eirlys

With a delicate physique, one that belies her years as a huntress, Anora has locks of auburn hair that spills across her shoulders in a cascade of unruly waves. Forest green eyes glint with a keen intelligence, which brings out the delicate tan to her otherwise porcelain complexion. She stands at around 5’6”, but her presence seems larger than life at times. Especially when she’s standing beside her husband.

Kaladin Eirlys

Kaladin, like his father, is of a taller stature, standing at around 6’5”, which makes him look even more like Ser Roan. With locks of white hair, that fall to his shoulders, typically kept in a half-braid while the rest stays loose, Kaladin’s sharp silver eyes seem warmer than the sun at times. His fair complexion bringing out the sparkle that harbors within them whenever he smiles. He has an athletic body from years of training and adventuring within the forests of The North.

Belladonna Eirlys

Seen as one of the most beautiful of House Eirlys, Belladonna has a lithe physique. Her pale complexion bringing out the vibrancy of her ice silver eyes— a color that complements the golden-white hue of her hair. Standing at around 5’11”, Belladonna is typically seen in riding gear as she enjoys taking long rides in the forest; something to take her mind off her duties (and to get away from her younger siblings).

Larak: His older sister— a woman that took him in when he didn’t have anywhere else to go. That taught him the ways of the sword and how to persevere in battle.

Calypso: Her father. It’s due to his guidance and love that Calypso found the strength to explore the surface world.

Shanaera: She tries not to make too many attachments like that… She has a soft spot for her birds though. As she knows she can always rely on them. No matter what.

The demo is not out, no. Not really anyway. I’ll be updating the pinned post link whenever I finish the part of chapter one I’m currently working on to share with you all.

A couple of questions:

Barring the obvious one (Arranged Marriage), what tropes would you most associate with each romance route?

Additionally: How would Larak react to an MC just giving him a full-body hug, arms-around-neck, legs-around-waist just at random without warning? Because you can bet mine will be doing that at some point.

I’ll list some of big ones but I’m certain there are more when it comes to the different routes.

Daeron: Arranged Marriage is the obvious one, but there’s a smattering of other ones too: slowish burn, royalty, second chance at love.

Larak: Oblivious love, hopeless romantic, and could you truly be the one? (Larak would be more than happy with the MC doing that whenever you get closer to him/are actually in a relationship with him. As any period beforehand he’d probably think you were trying to attack him and throw you in response.)

Calypso: First love, discovering something you never thought would be possible, and I didn’t know what I was looking for until I found you.

Shanaera: Slow burn, forced proximity, and soulmates.

Fáelán: Childhood Best Friend’s to Lovers, bodyguard romance (in a sense), and hopeful love.

Valerian: Everyone else can see it, I strongly detest the majority of people except you, and dark past.

You mentioned in an earlier post that Shanaera likes having her hands kissed because she writes a lot and they tend to hurt. How would she feel about receiving a hand massage?

Ikaros let’s out a gentle croon from his perch atop the rafters of the tower— golden eyes, reminiscent of twin suns, observing you with keen intelligence. It’s a look that used to disconcert you when you first started visiting, but now it brought you a form of comfort knowing that at least something was here to keep the stubborn Spymaster company during long days and even longer nights.

Rounding the last corner, still balancing the tray of steaming lavender infused tea and glazed scones, you’re unsurprised to see the stooped form of the love of your life. Golden strands of hair fall loose from the intricate braid she had put them in that morning, framing high arching cheekbones as Shanaera poured over the various reports strewn before her.

“You’re going to be stuck like that if you don’t move soon.” Placing the tray on the first available surface, ensuring it didn’t have a chance of messing up her work, you offer a gentle smile when violet eyes raise to meet your gaze. “Wouldn’t want to have to explain that to Daeron, now would we?”

Shanaera hums thoughtfully. “It would be rather tedious to do.” Her back straightens of its own accord, slender shoulders rolling to relieve some of the tension that had no doubt been gathering. “What brings you all the way up here at this hour? It’s quite late.”

An undignified snort almost makes an appearance at the question, but you’re just able to stifle the reaction— knowing that Shanaera wouldn’t find it as amusing as you.

“I came to share a late night snack with you, Shae,” you reply, easily taking a seat in the empty chair that should typically be her own. Of course, Shanaera rarely ever sat for long. “You didn’t appear for dinner and I wanted to make sure you at least ate something.”

A brief, yet still sincere, smile lifts the corner of her lips at the sentiment. Violet eyes softening like a gentle balm to the soul as she finally takes note of the tray you had brought for her. “You didn’t have to do such a thing.” She lets the finely made quill drop from her fingers, rolling across the drafting table for a short moment before it stops. “But I’m always appreciative of your company.”

“Especially when it comes with free food and drink,” you tease good-naturedly, quickly taking note of the way nimble fingers flexed in intermittent intervals to relieve some of the discomfort that was no doubt caused by the long hours of writing various reports, orders, and other things you don’t think you’d ever truly grasp. “Are your hands doing okay?”

“I’ll be fine, dearest one,” Shanaera sighs. “It’s not anything I’m not used to.”

A huff leaves your lips then, a brief flash of exasperation flaring across your chest at the beautiful elf, as you stand and quickly make your way to her side. “Before I came along.” You meet her gaze steadily, taking her hand in yours. “It’s something you were used to enduring before I came along.”

An elegant brow arches. “And what will you do to alleviate it?”

“Massage it better.” You grin. “I know you’re the one with the magic fingers typically, but let me take care of you tonight. Okay?”

Silence settles over the two of you then, Shanaera clearly ruminating over your words, violet eyes seemingly boring in your very soul, but then a gentle smile makes an appearance once more, appearing for much longer than the previous one as her free hand raises to cup your cheek.

“If you so wish to do so.” She places a chaste kiss to your lips. The unspoken sentiment shining clearly within her sparkling gaze: Thank you.

So I was playing the demo and I found it a bit odd that even though my MC looks like a mini version of Kal (the hair and eyes), he still says something along the lines of 'even though we don't look alike'..

The variables are attached to hair, eyes, and skin— White, Silver, and Fair respectively…. At least I believe that’s the case. Whenever I finish with the portion of chapter one I’m on, that’ll be released soon, I’m going to go back and add another variable for an instance of you looking like Anora.

I just read the prologue and I first of all wanted to say that your prose is marvellous, didn't even take the full first paragraph before I was leaning in close to my laptop, magnetised to the words.

Second of all, the way you write Kal, and the bond they share is wonderful—Especially the emphasis that family is what you make it. But also just Kal's personality in general, what a delightful man, and a good brother. I look forward to following you on this journey of writing.

Thank you so much! I’m planning on releasing what I have for Chapter One soon (as the original plan was to do that along with the prologue but I wanted you all to interact with Kal too much).

I’m so happy that you like Kaladin. He adores the MC and will always try to make sure you understand that you’re his little sibling no matter what. That he may be an Eirlys by blood, but you were made into one by fate. He never wishes for you to believe that you’re anything less than family to him and he strives to ensure that’s something you’ll never misunderstand. Was it always easy? Probably not, but Kaladin would always be there when he could be. No matter what.

He is. Though I assumed that the previous Anon either wasn’t aware of that fact or they have that HC since the MC is adopted— I’m not sure.

Or simply given the setting the story is in people have said thoughts (GoT Style).

Either way, Kaladin wouldn’t reciprocate in the slightest.

I headcanon, mc who along the way fell in love with Kal, a harmless unrequited love, they love him but also are in love with him, even knowing it will never be spoken out loud or reciprocated and they accepted the arranged marriage without a fuss because it would help their people, their house, their family and mostly him, because at the end of the day what mc wants is for Kal's happiness above everything else. I like to imagine they learn to love Daeron, even when Kal will forever own the center of their heart.

Kaladin would definitely be… alarmed (I feel like that’s the right word) if he found out the MC held such feelings towards him, but he’d also do his best to help you sort through them. If it’s something he discovered in any case. And, hopefully anyway, it’s a case of mistaken love— one that’s born from respect and loyalty and not from actually being in love with him.

Daeron makes an excellent partner, a bit down the line… but the thought is still there.

I've been trying to avoid adding yet another IF to my list of bookmarks, but you just had to have the premise of arranged marriage (potentially) becoming a real marriage.. I'm too weak to refuse! Just tell me when the wedding date is, Daeron 👰‍♀

😂, Daeron has made it a stipulation that the MC stay within Vela’thian for a year before the wedding as he wants to make sure it’s a good match first and it’s something you both want— as he wouldn’t wish to force you to do anything.

If you don’t wish to marry him? And are fairly certain of it? You can tell him, of course, but you’ll have to pretend for a time until the Velasyran happens (an important event within Vela’thian) and it can be announced.

I loved it, Ray! I had my eyes full of tears reading the part where Kal told mc they will forever be bonded and if they are in a place where they can't come back, he will go to find them, ughhhh! The story of Fenrir was so bittersweet too, I imagine mc when they are far away holding tenderly the collar in their hand and searching for the Northern star in the sky, feeling so very homesick.

I’m so happy to hear that! Kaladin is an absolute sweetheart who adores you with everything in his heart and soul. He’s the sweetest of beans and would do anything in his power to protect you.

And I’m glad you liked the story! I had a lot of fun with the three and how they all connect to one another and the main message I was trying to convey (and that Kal was trying to tell you).

You’ll definitely like the start of Chapter One then! As it’s for that very reason that I implemented it because I like the change up between the end of the prologue and the beginning of chapter on:

Fay, omfg I'm in love with Kaladin, I'm sighing for him like a hopeless maiden, I want to be held by his arms and kiss him oh so gently, oh so softly.

I’m so glad that you like him so far! In fact, due to me being too excited to wait, and because I want you all to at least have a small inkling to the world of Arlatha, I’ll share the link to the prologue of Omen of Ice, which only consists of Kaladin and the MC.

I will warn you though that it’s fairly short (only around 4K), but I hope you enjoy it all the same! The stats haven’t been implemented yet either (just as a forewarning for anyone confused about that).
