Kenta & Pete pt 1

I am splitting this into multiple posts because I have too many fucking emotions. This episode provided so much insight into both of their characters, as well as their relationship with each other.

I'm gonna start off talking about Kenta’s outfits because I have been curious for a while about Kenta wearing a different outfit from the other kids during Babe's flashback, and I've wanted to know how far back that visual distinction went. How long has he been dyed in black for?

So it felt like a punch to the gut to find that:

He's always been separate from the others. A powerless, "useless" person, not given the privileges of the alphas.

He wasn't always dressed in black. He wore blue, once. He wore white, once.

But somewhere along the way, that brightness disappears. He becomes a mere shadow, blending into the walls of the house itself. The imagery of this shot fucking kills me, y'all.

In fact, the only color left in Kenta's life is Pete himself.

Pete, who put a smile on Kenta's face. (A SMILE!!!!!!!!! LOOK AT HIM!!!!!!)

Pete, who left Kenta behind.

Kenta has spent the rest of his life in black, with only the tiniest piece of blue left on his wrist, just the barest hint of what he carries in his heart. I am not okay and in fact I will never be okay.

Sprite's inherent disbelief that he could be loved is going to be what breaks everyone who cares about him. Because Sprite just doesn't see himself as someone who can be loved. He is hiding behind this persona of being Zee because if he's not Zee than he's just Sprite and no one chooses Sprite. No one wants or loves Sprite. They all choose Zee, they all want Zee, they always have.

But Sprite doesn't get that First loves him because he's Sprite, not because he's Zee.

And that is going to break them both into pieces, shatter them completely.

I see people thinking Sprite is confused and it's not that, it's not that he's genuinely confused. It's that he just doesn't see how he could be better than Zee or more loved than Zee or why First wouldn't pick Zee over him every time. why he would want anything from him that he didn't want from Zee.

Sprite thinks he is loved because he is being Zee. And so he cannot give that up.

Because when he does, when he goes back to being Sprite, he will go back to being unwanted and unloved, the child no one chose, the one that causes trouble and gets nothing in return.

I mean, he's an idiot. He's wrong as well, wrong on every level and he's going to hurt First so damn much with all this lying. But he's doing it because he's never felt like a person worthy of love, let alone someone who loves him the way First does.

Only Friends Ep 7 Stray Thoughts

Last week, it was Mew's birthday. We learned that Mew was raised by lesbians. Sand's mom is having some health problems, and Top poked him again at the hospital. In response, Sand stole the car audio from Nick and then gave it to Ray. Ray confronted Boston in a really nasty scene. Speaking of Boston, that hypocrite said he didn't like people who secretly recorded him about Drake's character. Ray gave the audio to Mew and then made a whole scene at the birthday before getting punched by Mew, because Mew had his own plans for dealing with Top. In a diabolical move, Mew had that was on top of that man getting ready for sex before cutting to the audio. Unhinged.

"After Effect"

Sand looks so stupid driving this motorcycle with hair covering one eye.

Well, there's the crash we all predicted.

In relieved Ray didn't hurt anyone else.

Sand, you need to chew Ray out for more than just the driving.

We finally see Ray's dad.

Okay, Mew, let's see this villain era.

Interesting that Nick didn't throw Sand under the bus there.

Oh, Nick, this is embarrassing.

Top, equivocating is probably a bad idea right now.

Okay, Mew burning that man's art of him like that is so alarming. Top, it's time to call it and leave for good.

Did Sand really fail to finish his wine just to take care of Ray? Embarrassing.

Ray just asked Sand to take care of him and now he's holding Mew's hand.

Boston really is completely unrepentant.

Mew really kicked Boston into the pool, jumped in after him, and continued to pummel him.

Absolutely stellar episode. We finally got the pool scene. Multiple people got punched in the face. Book got to be nefarious and diabolical. Force got to play sad and embarrassed. Mark ugly cried. This was amazing.

On the real, though, I actually think I finally believe that Top was serious about Mew.
