Week 23 - Print Folio - Marble Creek - Reflections
This week’s project is a Folio designed to hold eight A3 prints of images I would make...the following afternoon! The interior of the folio has three rails to hold the prints in place, the bottom flap folds up into a recess in the side rails, then the cover flap folds over and is held secure by magnets. The design was further predicated by the barely enough materials I had at hand.
The camera club had a group outing on Marble Creek the following afternoon. I had never been to Marble Creek and the afternoon light was indeed very contrasty, but I had the confidence that given a few hours with the lens I would find something. When the light itself is too harsh to be the subject, then one must look for line in the shadows. I would certainly like to go back under more favorable conditions.

Would you believe that I “finally” got an iPhone...then lost several hours learning Oggl...I have some book ideas for the color images. I roundtripped this one to Lightroom with the PhotoSync App to remove some dust spots...then made a nice print.

Remade the May 11 book...twice actually...making it smaller so that the spine could be cut from a single long strip of Mi-Teintes, smooth side out. I also rebound the May 5 book to clean it up a bit and make it more durable.

Mary Ellen Mark - In Memorial
Mary Ellen Mark once said something to the effect…"being OK at something is easy...being exceptional is very hard”.
As a photoblogger that statement continually nags at me...the existential question of quantity contrasted to quality. This page attempts to present a daily conversation with the lens and I find the "warts and all” approach stimulating in that it predicates the confidence gained by using the lens almost everyday. The pitfall of course is reliance on things that are known to work...i.e. essentially making the same image over and over, and I often feel something I’ve just posted is err…OK. [see above] As in writing or film there are only a few story lines, and relative success lies in the nuance and luck of being there. So I trudge on, making my funny little pitchers into books…attempting to "do it" rather than dwell on it...maybe I could be exceptionally ordinary.
