i know majority, if not all, the Infected in the game were changed scientists, but in the AU most of them are the turned scientists, but there are also original/Pure Infected, real alien zombies (how did they get there is a Mysterious Mystery, but maybe they were vibing in the tomb and just woke up). humans-turned-infected are Half Infected and retain some human parts, like human-colored patches of skin, tufts of hair and urge to wear clothes (why are they all butt naked)

for the sake of consistency, despite recovering and them being linked to the Hivemind directly, Philip is still considered Half Infected, but he still looks most human (there are... changes, but they aren’t quite linked to his appearance). in the meantime, Eminiss is very much a half-human half-Infected (has most free will and is disconnected from other Infected, but can still communicate with Hivemind). i think his design kicks ass and i’m keeping his weird melting pot looking ass.

for my own sanity, freedom and sense, for the AU sake i’m changing the ‘Tuurngait’ to be literally just ancient alien race with no connection to native Inuit mythology. the scientists were still searching for the ancient entity, but instead found actual aliens and real fucked up virus that actually have no connection to what they were actually looking for.

IMO it changes essentially nothing with the canon plot and game, as we can just interpret the notes related to the mythos as a red herring, since it is a bad retelling and usage of a native myth anyways LOL.

IDK how to exactly call them then, since i don’t want to use this name since it is probably sacred for the native Inuits, so for now they stay as Infected

One of the things i really really like abt philip compared to daniel, justine, tasi, or simon is that, like -- for each of the others, they start off with a huge Event. Daniel is stumbling around in a fugue, amnesiac; Justine isnt so bad, but shes got stuff going on, too, and is in a confused/amnesiac state as well, in a way; Tasi is *also* amnesiac, and suffering from turning into a ghoul-thing, and Simon is suffering from a recent traumatic event, the threat of a terminal and fatal prognosis, and is also just a brain scan that is very very old so uh lmao

Comparatively, Philip is very, very, VERY much a Normal Guy, he just got curious. He very much had the choice to Not Do That. He specifically sought out the situation he found himself in, with little to no preparations or equipment -- whereas the others often felt like they were shoved into it, out of their control (for the amnesia characters, though, they literally built their hell for themselves. With some otherwordly influences, and, in Tasi's case, you can argue that it was straight up interference and not just influence lol)

Not saying that thats bad, its actually very agreeable with me and i love the conflict and turbulence it produces in the narrative -- but theres just something so funny and endearing abt Philip, both just plainly because of his specific choices as well as how he's the odd one out of Frictional Games' main characters

it's absolutely possible that if Penumbra took place between 2019-2021, Philip might as well just have online classes with his students but he would record the lectures from Archaic, and whenever an Infected came into the view, the students would start either screaming or asking if it's some prank (most likely the second option, given the timeline)
