hanshitas‌:
It has been a while since he witnessed such goofy behavior. It’s almost nostalgic—”Naoya, you’re an idiot’ but that wouldn’t save him from Tatsuya’s sharp tongue. Despite the fact that Tatsuya looks like he was going to get up and find it himself since he couldn’t stand it, he doesn’t go through it. Eyes wandering back and forth, waiting for him to find the instrument he’s looking for.
Tumblr media
This is exactly why Tatsuya believes that new year celebrations are a hassle. If it wasn’t for Naoya, he wouldn’t have bothered to come here at all. Patience and empathy grew on him over the years, so it’s the least he could do. “Did you try looking in the—ah.” The moment he opens his mouth, the bright man finds what he sought. A relieved sigh escapes terse lips, unsure about what was coming next. Naoya was always trying to be cool despite the fact that they’re not in high-school anymore. Tatsuya doesn’t give him the time of day or energy to dignify his behavior but he lets him do whatever he pleased, “Ehh. Probably Maki would’ve liked that one? Not me.” He throws a lukewarm jab at him, with a sly grin.
He fetches his beer, looking at the hole and feelings the cold temperature clinging on his fingers before taking a sip, eyeing Naoya while he unsuccessfully tries to do the same thing again, “Oi. Stop playing around. Don’t we need to ‘cheers!’ or something? Then you can tell me about your life or whatever.”
Just as Tatsuya begins to chastise him, no-nonsense as usual, Naoya manages to pry off the cap of his own drink, answering his friend with the self-satisfied pop! of the cap. He grins, shaking his fingers off and snatching a napkin from the coffee table, where a spread of typical Japanese beer snacks also rest: dried shredded calamari, wasabi peas, squid and seaweed tempura.
Simple, but also splurging. Just the way the two of them like it.
Tumblr media
“Playing around? I’m just getting started,” he promises cheerfully. Holding his beer bottle by its neck, he tips the base, frosted from the chill of the fridge, in Tatsuya’s direction, waiting for the toast. “Cheers?”

Of course, it has to be when he has a guest over that the bottle opener conveniently goes missing. He’d begun the night looking well put-together, Naoya did -- but as he fumbles through the confused contents of his flatware drawer, his hair returns to its natural state of being rather disheveled. He eventually returns to the couch looking even more lost than the misplaced bottle opener.
“That’s odd. Gone like the wind,” he declares to his red-haired companion, both hands occupied by a pair of chilled glass bottles of beer. He stares somewhat dumbly at the other man, before his expression shifts. Naoya’s eyes light up. He plops down on the couch, one leg crossed beneath the other.
As he braces his forefinger along the neck of one bottle, his silver ring catches beneath the bottlecap. A gentle pry, and it springs free with a satisfying Pop! He grins from ear to ear, seemingly very proud of his little party trick.
Tumblr media
“Eh? Not bad, right?” Naoya hands the bottle over to Tatsuya, picking up the other - only to find himself unable to repeat the trick on the first try.

anonymous: Just want to say I’m so happy @piercing-wind is in this fandom, especially with how they expand on themes introduced in the manga. Their Naoya is charming and fun, and their writing is endlessly readable.

konzerneir:
“There’s an issue I wished to discuss away from the others,” Kei says—and if his tone carries a note of dismissal, it’s a remnant of former habits.
It isn’t that he finds the rest of their eclectic group disagreeable, but there are certain developments he can’t simply drop on such an excitable bunch. Naoya inspires a particular sort of trust: that he will be candid, or at least reasonable.
Not that such a sentiment stops Kei from pausing, in an effort to find the right words. His arms smoothly fold over the small of his back.
Tumblr media
“Have you given any thought to your next step after graduation? I know it’s some time away, but it would be reckless to put off planning.”
Naoya can only assume Nanjo’s concerns are directly related to him, or to one of their friends. At times, Nanjo's judgment can be pretty severe -- but his lectures never fail to prove well-meaning. It was only in the recent past that Naoya had counted on his advice to steer clear of trouble, too, so he sees little point in not taking his classmate seriously.
“Hmm...”
Still -- to spring on him the one conversation he instantly blanks on is... asking for a tad much. But it’s not as though Naoya has given post-grad prospects no consideration whatsoever. There are a few promising opportunities here and there, one of them coming from his dad, no less, but even Naoya has it in him to be particular about what it is he wants to be doing with his life.
Tumblr media
“To be honest, not really.” Naoya’s expression seems devil-may-care -- but he’d seek out advice if he believed it’d give him the answer he’s looking for. He knows better than to be envious, too: the lot among his grade who gossip about the stable post awaiting Nanjo don’t seem to understand the qualifications called for in that position.
He props his chin against the heel of a hand, offering a light grin that contrasts Nanjo’s stern quality. “I’m guessing you’ve already gotten everything in order, right? You seem prepared.”

“Oh, I’m sorry!”
Eriko shook her head, giving him a small smile in apology.
“I guess I was overthinking our situation, that is all… I am fine, don’t worry about me…”
Chuckling, she turned to stand in front of the doors, biting her lip a bit as she gathered her determination to do this and be focused while doing so.
“… besides, there are more crucial things to worry about than me, right now.”
Tumblr media
        “... ...”
Kirishima is normally well-composed even under pressure, but it’s no surprise that even she’s being driven into a corner now. Still, it leaves Naoya feeling somewhat restless to realize she’s having doubts. Their determination means little if they’re not prepared, and he knows he’s depended on her expertise in the occult to get the group moving on several occasions already. They all had.
“You may be right, but...” He shifts his sword to the other hand in a contemplative gesture. “If something’s on your mind, you can say it. We might not have time once we head in.”

@piercing-wind liked for a starter!
Tumblr media
Eriko placed her finger on her lips, clearly lost in thought as they stood in front of the doors leading towards the Lost Forest once more, this time for a much more personal reason. With one less person, the demons may be too strong for them to take but…
… did she have reasons to worry? They all had good weapons and Persona, it should be no issue…
… and yet…
… what were the others doing? She focused on the area again to see…
She seems to be spaced out. Given that this is Eriko, it is no surprise for her to be lost in her own thoughts every now and then, but during a crucial moment of all times? While they are pressed for time, Naoya realizes that charging headlong back into the fray can very well cost them. It’s decidedly better for the entire team to enter the forest following the same resolve.
A wave of his hand a good distance away from her line of sight. Then another, also to no avail. Not meaning to startle her, Naoya reaches closer and snaps his fingers next to her ear.
Tumblr media
“Kirishima!” She seemed to have come back to earth sooner than she had heard him. He pulls back apologetically. “... My bad. You alright? You weren’t listening when we called you the first few times.”

“Toudou.”
Kei pulls himself upright to stand beside his desk: swiftly, but not abruptly. He is the lone static figure amidst a swarm of students eagerly heading towards the classroom door, because few wish to linger after the final bell of the day. Including their teacher.
Amidst all the hurry, Kei still languidly extends a hand, directing a beckoning gesture towards the student in question. His tone is just shy of being stern—something he’s been working on, lately. People tend to react more favourably.
“I’d like to speak with you, if you don’t mind.”
Literature had lost Naoya’s interest ever since about twenty minutes into the lesson. Even the bell chime isn’t enough to reel back the attention lost to the world -- but he’s not spacing out, at least. He’s considering the amount of motivation he has to materialize out of nowhere in order to avoid another close encounter with a repeat exam.
It’s not until their star pupil signals for him that Naoya learns he had been in the middle of diligently staring at a half-filled notebook page. He shuts it.
Tumblr media
“Nanjo.” Casual as he is, he’s actually grown accustomed to keeping up with his friend’s businesslike demeanor. Hardly even notices the more relaxed nuance in his classmate’s body language. “I’ve got time. What’s up?”

He lets that sink in - though, coming from Ayase, Naoya had expected no less. He glances about the classroom warily, wondering if Uesugi had hidden out somewhere to eavesdrop on the conversation. Of all the times he had to chicken out -- it had to be now?
Knowing Ayase’s tendency to turn boys down at breakneck speed, Naoya can’t exactly blame him. He actually gives him props for pursuing her. Only, the prospects don’t look too promising at the moment.
“I see.” He coughs uncomfortably. Here comes the hard part:  “... O-okay, so. What’s your type of guy, then?”

—— “ he is … like you, in a way. not in appearance-wise obviously. just ‘that’ POTENTIAL, of controlling ‘multiple personas’ at will. a ‘wild card’ . ”
                                      >SHE elaborated her observation & how the connection of THE WILD CARD she knew and this one had a familirity. almost as if their fate’s all connect to the velvet room and their contract to abide in Igor’s envisions. ( it was bizarre, crazy imagination or a mere coincidence, it is the truth that bestows the beholder regardless. )
—— “ … sorry, if it doesn’t answer your question.   but i know i am RIGHT about you being a wild card too, right? ”
He hears her out patiently. It isn’t the most elaborate description he’s heard, but it’s certainly more clear cut than Igor’s ever put it, as far as Naoya can recall. This ‘wild card’ concept, this figment of his person that took root when he was a regular guest at the Velvet Room, is a revisiting of his past. Both welcome and unwelcome.
In all honesty, his interest is stirred. Is she a brand new attendant there? Seems like she might be in training. From the way he was approached, he doesn’t feel as though she had sought him out for business. Maybe this is a chance encounter after all?
Tumblr media
“-- Yeah.” He replies simply. “Don’t sweat it. Your gut feeling is perfectly right. If anything, I’m the one who should be sorry - I played dumb since I had no idea who you were.” It had really been a long time. “So. Are you working with the Velvet Room?”
