I was referring to option b, that "Should I Stay or Should I Go?" would become traumatic for him. Tbf we haven't heard that song since season 1, although this is largely a head canon and was the winning option when I reblogged the poll.

I guess I was mostly expressing my annoyance at widely accepted fanon in general. There are certain things that the fandom has kind of gaslit themselves into believing, such as "Boys Don't Cry is Will's favorite song" when the only proof of that is a poster on his wall visible for not that much amount of time, while SISOSIG has been much more important to the narrative. The poll didn't mention "Boys Don't Cry," but that's an argument that I've seen plenty of times before.

Will finding SISOSIG traumatizing is something that could be true, although so far there's nothing in the show to indicate that other than a piece of widely accepted fanon.

why do you think bylers are by and large so hesitant and resistant to accepting will byers as GNC? I don’t think it’s just because of the buff byers idea, as it seems to go way beyond

I think that people just often dislike canon characterisations and instead prefer to project on characters their own ideas. I think buff byers plays a big role in everything but also the modern biases that make people incapable of understanding the coding. The things will does are not considered gnc or "girly" by modern standards and are therefore mistakenly overlooked constantly, in favor for example for the idea of a gnc mike, because having long hair is sth that's considered gnc now. But in reality will is a product of his time and his colourful clothes and sensitive soft demeanor etc are more than enough coding. However all this requires people to actually think about what canon is saying instead of doing a thousand mental hoops to avoid it and we all know that's not this fandoms forte
