Drinks at Cayo Coco
There’s a new rooftop bar in Vienna and what better time than now to test Cayo Coco? Summer is just around the corner and the evenings are starting to get longer and the temperatures are going up. Hoxton hotel @Vienna Unfortunately during my visit there was a cold spell, so we needed to stay inside. But before taking our place, I walked outside to enjoy the incredible view over Vienna from the…

Han am Stadtpark - update
From all the Korean restaurants in the city Han am Stadtpark is my preferred. The restaurant is clearly popular by a lot of people, because without reservation there is no table available. We arrived early at 18:30 and when we left someone else was already waiting for it, although the restaurant closes at 21:30. But such is life at a restaurant with authentic Korean food. Han am Stadtpark…

ASPIC
Aspic has opened its doors about a year ago, but only recently did I manage to eat here myself. Quite a shame actually, since it is within walking distance from my place. Four guys manage the service and the kitchen, and serve tapas-style Austrian food to share. The restaurant has a small terrace, which currently lies in a very quiet street due to the construction of the U5 around the…

Grammophon Bistro Cafe
I stumbled onto Grammophon Bistro Cafe by chance. We were looking for a meeting place near the Rabenhof Theater, which lies in a rather poor gastronomic area. Since it was also raining that evening, we decided on place as close by as possible without running the risk to end up somewhere awful. Grammophon Bistro sounded harmless and was only three minutes away. The bistro itself is rather small,…

Breakfast at StadtCafe - update
StadtCafe has a very prominent location across from Bank Austria Kunstforum, and also a large terrace in a rather pedestrian zone. There was some morning sun on the terrace, but it moved already away while we still sat there. Probably a benefit during the summer months. The terrace invites to linger, it’s an excellent place for people watching. The last time I came here was already some years…

Wildling
Wildling is a fairly new restaurant in Vienna with a focus on good food. The reviews sounded promising, so I picked it as dinner place for an outing with friends. The reservation per mail worked without a hitch, even though there was no reply to my second email in regards to the arrival time. When we got there on an evening in spring, with temperatures reminding us more of summer, we hoped for a…

Eggs Benedict in Vienna (Part 6)
The search continues for the perfect eggs Benedict. When this all started there were just a few restaurants in Vienna, which eggs Benedict for breakfast. Today it’s really popular and each restaurant is offering their own creation. Some better, some worse. There is a spin on the bread. the sauce, and the accompaniment. So far though I find that the classic one is still a winner! Yours,…

Three weeks in the Philippines without a plan
Traveling to the Philippines has been a dream of mine for a long time. Social media teased me endlessly with pictures and reels of pristine beaches. A week before I left I still had no plan on where to go and what to do. Finally I settled on Legazpi on Bicol to start with. Bicol is not an island in itself, but rather the southern part of Luzon, where Manila lies. So part of the main island. I…

Breakfast at Kutsch
Kutsch is a relatively new restaurant around the already popular Kutschkermarkt in Vienna. Nonetheless I already made it there for dinner twice. The food was good both times, so when I read that Kutsch also offered breakfast I had to go see it for myself. At the early hour we arrived Kutsch was still empty, but little by little the restaurant filled up. entry room @Kutsch back room @Kutsch For…

Café Caché
On a recent Thursday we managed to snag a table at Café Caché. While just newly opened, it’s nonetheless already quite popular. But how often do we Viennese get French flair in a relaxed atmosphere? The restaurant has been a pastry shop with a coffee area in former times. A fact which is still visible, but adds to the overall charm of the place. in the dark @Café Caché We got a booth table for…

Breakfast at Die Sattlerei - update
When I ate breakfast at ‘Die Sattlerei’ for the first time, I loved it. That was also the reason why I went back to it a couple of times. I got addicted to their ‘Sattlerei’, their egg Benedict, as well as theEnglish breakfast. Unfortunately they closed for breakfast and were only open in the evening. But lo and behold, with the pandemic over, ‘Die Sattlerei’ started to offer breakfast again. So…

What I learned in Belgrade
Belgrade had never been on my must-see list. What I knew about the Serbian people didn’t help either to motivate me. In the end it was the lack of other places nearby and a cheap ticket to get there, which tipped the scales for Belgrade. Oh boy was I wrong though. After one long weekend in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, I am ready to explore the rest of the country. Most people were friendly,…

The doors of Belgrade
Most doors in Belgrade, except for some garden doors, were sturdy wooden or iron doors with glass inlays. Interestingly enough, most had some intricate details to give the doors a certain lightness. What I found most astonishing were the many friezes above the doors. Quite remarkable to have so many imposing portals in the city. In any case, most doors are from the center of Belgrade and some…

More impressions from Belgrade
Despite a bumpy start upon our arrival, Belgrade impressed me. The city has a lot of beautiful old buildings, but still gives off a vibrant and modern air. That’s not easy to achieve, however Belgrade manages to pull it off. A weekend for this city is therefore too short. On the other hand though, this leaves the opportunity to come back again in summer. Despite relatively nice weather, during…

All the food of Belgrade - and drinks too
My first coffee in Belgrade was a takeaway, for the second one I drank sitting down. After our visit of the fortress we turned around and went back to the pedestrian zone. Quite at the beginning we found  Kafeterija Magazin 1907 in a side street. Coffee and service were lovely. Also, excellent wifi. Kafeterija Magazin 1907 @Belgrade We stopped for lunch at Manufaktura, which advertises with…

A visit to the Tesla museum in Belgrade
On our last day in Belgrade we had the Tesla museum on our agenda. We had already passed it during the free walking tour and our guide recommended to visit the museum with a tour. So while we did go back the same day, the next tour was booked and we didn’t want to wait. Unfortunately there’s no online booking, hence the only thing you can do is to either line up outside (you are not allowed to…

The many churches of Belgrade
While walking around in Belgrade I noticed many churches. Most of them are from the Orthodox church and therefore a bit dark inside. Which might come from age and the many candles, or maybe it’s just the dark icons. Because the Orthodox church can also look bright and shiny if it wants to. The Cathedral Church of Saint Michael the Archangel was a rather dark and gloomy place, even though its door…
