" He should not have come back. He was in grave danger. He said he didn't get to meet a lot of people. And because of that,he wasn't good at joking or socializing, but it was all from his heart. Everything he said was from his heart. No, that's not exactly right. It was actually because he loved me."

So, the opening line of MI2 is: "Well, Dimitri, every search for a hero must begin with something every hero requires: a villain."
It's not a line I've given much thought to, what with it hardly being a strikingly original observation.
But giving it a moment, the line makes me think about how much more complex the MI series' approach to that dichotomy is than 'Good Guy vs Bad Guy'. It's far more 'a guy fighting for his humanity vs an institution that seeks to subsume him into their oppressive functions.' Ethan didn't rise from the ashes to combat an Evil Overlord or even an Evil Organization which he attacks from the outside. Dude wants a dog and a family and house, but he is trapped within an organization that leaves no options besides being complicit with its abuses or fighting like hell to subvert both it and the threat it launches him at.
That's why the villains I find most compelling in the series are ones like Jim Phelps and Solomon Lane—even Sean Ambrose in a few select moments—who contrast with Ethan specifically in how they navigate the moral death-trap that is the IMF or similar organizations. (Don't get me wrong, Owen Davion is a top-tier villain when it comes to building a sense of threat and cruelty, but by MI standards I don't find him the most thematically compelling. If I'm going for analysis, I'm more likely to dig into Musgrave and Brassel).
Still, to return to the opening line of MI2: it doesn't refer to the 'creation of a hero', but rather the 'search for a hero'. And, well, I suppose the IMF as an organization is, in its way, always on the search for heroes. But however unintentionally, it finds them not through identifying external villains to toss agents at and see who sticks. It finds and forges them through being the jailor who traps individuals inside it, and villain who will break and turn them within it unless they find the heroism to fight.
And for all its theatrics which these days tend play as rather more funny than cool, for all that its aesthetics make it easy to dismiss, that dynamic is fully present in MI2—more present even, I'd argue, (at least at this point in my rewatches), than in MI3 or MI4.
And personally, I find that dynamic really compelling, not to mention relatable. After all, I suspect it's a rare privilege among us everyday folks to find an individual nemesis against whom to sharpen our skills and wits and moral fiber. But living within systems of oppression we cannot escape, within which complacency and obedience tips all too readily into complicity with horrors, against which we learn to stand in whatever small or large ways we find capacity for even when we cannot find the means to transform it—well, my friends and I know a thing or two about that.

Someone tell me why huisoo and her dad can live normal lives but bongseok and his mum can't????

Honestly, I would pay for an entire season of just Dooshik and Bongseok figuring their dynamic out. They are used to each other as a concept. Bongseok only remembers being raised by one parent. Dooshik only knows how to raise a 3 year old. And then there's Mihyun in the middle of it all, the glue of the family who's trying so hard to make things back to normal, fully knowing that normalcy flew out the window the minute Dooshik handed her that gun 15 years ago. the angst, the yearning, the love, the joy, the silly goofiness ... man, I would watch it.

Moving Kdrama
After Revenant and DP , this kdrama has me hooked this year! What a slump it has been but am so glad in last 8 weeks I’m getting back to my KDramas. I’m still dying for a good romcom though!
The Moving cast is A+ . The younger generation and the parents.
I’m watching Lee Jung Ha for the first time and his BongSeok is already my favourite character. I love his innocence, naivety, and struggle to impress the girl he likes.
Tumblr media
I loved how HiSoo recognised him as different not weird. The girl has heart of gold. Go Yoon Jung I have watched in Law School and I find her extremely pretty. She is a very good actress.
Tumblr media
I loved their budding friendship so far and him losing control over his super abilities when he is happy was simply the cutest depiction of superabilities across all shows I have watched on this topic!
Tumblr media
I liked Kim Do Hoon in The Law Cafe a lot and him playing this recluse, senior, secretly crushing on HiSoo, guy is intriguing.
Tumblr media
What to say about the casting in Parents generation - Han Hyo Joo, only seen her being kick ass in Happiness, I love her so I know what to expect! Ryoo Seung Ryong, Kim Sung Kyung, Kim Shin Rok. Not a fan of Jo In Sung or Chae Tae Hyun but am sure they will not disappoint.
Tumblr media
Extremely well paced first 7 episodes. Everyone is hiding secrets. Why? The world building is done well, the rules are laid out, the hunt is on. There is the NK-SK political rivalry at play and NiS/CIA too! Looks to be a thrilling chase if the drama plays out well.
The director is the co-director of Kingdom S2!
I’m seated - and didn’t anyone see the similarities to the series Heroes? Look up my next post to see what I mean!

my scenario for post-moving:
Kim family warmed up for around a week??? to catch up, erase the awkward tension, and could finally sit in the table to have dinner together without mihyun excuse herself and breaking into tears and left bongseok & dooshik awkwardly stare into each other.
bongseok finally get to known full back story, even about the min youngjun that apparently his dad killed before meeting them. from what bongseok understand, he is the source of the problem and now hes gone he should be safe and could stop hiding, right? His dad back, the one who's been chasing them gone, and turns out it's the NK agents who freed his dad. No one left to hunt them now, right?
So in that one dinner when Mihyun could finally back to her composed self, Bongseok brought it upㅡ "can i meet Heesoo now?"
Mihyun becomes silent as Doosik is super curious who is Heesoo. Mihyun knows Bongseok voluntarily avoid to meet the girl he likes for extra caution, even didn't complain at all when she forbid him to go to graduation ceremony. She knows he must be miss her so much. But not gonna lie there is still an uneasiness, like what if dooshik comeback is just a great thing to delude herself and she will lost both later??
But looking at Bongseok hopeful face, Mihyun finally said okay although with uncertain voice. Bongseok face beamed instantly, and when he meet his dad curious eyes, he suddenly becomes shy. "Oh, she's a friend." Then later added with tiny shy voice, the girl that i like.
Seeing how Bongseok blushing, Dooshik smiling to himself. A regret and happiness filled him, like he regret to miss Bongseok's growth but also happy and relieved when he finds their similarity. He is indeed his son.
Next day a very excited Bongseok finally flies to meet Heesoo, and Dooshik secretly follows him for safety reason (Mihyun about to forbid Bongseok again later at night because she keeps afraid and overthinking it, and Dooshik reassured her he will watch him for a far and he'll be fine). From far away he looks how his son knocked the girl's window, and he chuckles because that exactly what he did with Mihyun. But then a giant figure stole his attention right below the window where Bongseok just slides in, he's shocked that it was a familiar face.
He quickly fly to get to the giant only to stopped abruptly when he saw even more familiar face behind him: Juwon.
"Dooshik?" Juwon shouted in awe, even more shocked than anyone else. Dooshik quickly get back to his sense to strangle the giant.
Need several seconds for Juwon to understand the situation and explain in panic that he is his worker now. Dooshik still doesnt let go.
Bongseok and Heesoo that is having their sweet reunion and about to kiss is abruptly stopped by Juwon's screaming of Dooshik name. They comes from upstairs in rush to know what's happen, which make Juwon more shocked than before; "why are you here and what are you doing with my daughter??!?!?"
It's a pure chaos, Dooshik still demand explanation why this NK agent is here frying chickens, is he a spy??? Bongseok apologizing for entering through Heesoo's bedroom window, missing her so much make him not in the right mind while having second embarrassment that his dad is following him, Heesoo trying to explain the situation then yelling at Dooshik to let go of his uncle, Juwon trying to make both Dooshik and Heesoo stop, Bongseok taking Juwon side because he wants a plus point from his future father-in-law, Dooshik looks betrayed, Heesoo stunned when she finally learns he is his dad senior who is also Bongseok's long lost dad. How is he here and why is he look like that (handsome and tall and cold and intimidating) ????????? Totally different from warm cute chubby Bongseok she knows (and she likes). Dooshik is also equally shocked to learn that Bongseok's crush is Juwon's daughter. Does that mean they will become in-laws??????
Everyone froze, the chicken is almost burnt. Yongdeuk, who is still in Dooshik chokehold, grinning ear to ear. What a cute, wholesome family.
(They finally have lunch together to catch up and explaining everything, and Juwon, who couldn't help but notice that the kids wants their own time, finally let them go to have their own silly little date)

i finished watching moving and just!! spoilers ahead
i absolutely love the show??? the way the characters were written, just *chef's kiss*
like pls mihyun who wouldn't shoot at her commanding officer's order but will not hesitate to kill someone to protect her son
and jang juwon seeing lee jaeman about to attack the shockwave guy and going all "you're so fucked"
and lee jaeman going absolutely berserk to protect his son, but also "don't do that, ganghoon-ah, you'll hurt your hand"
and the kids!! bongseok carrying his eomma on his back like she used to do for him when he was younger
and huisoo throwing herself in front of a bullet in one scene and comforting a bloodied crying man on the sidewalk the next (showing us that she's both her father's and her mother's daughter)
and the nk agents too!! the show depicting that they might belong to a different side but they're human too and their whole backstories pls like just absolutely heartbreaking and they deserve better and "those who forces sacrifices are to blame" and my heart hurts at just how they were all called monsters but were used as pawns by the actual monsters
just !!!!!! so good

I want to rant about Lee Miyeon and Hwang Jihee. Miyeon seemed devastated when Bongseok's powers came to be, and with good reason, the flying being controlled by emotions, them being on hiding and knowing the kind of life his husband had. And it is hard for her, she constantly worries about Bongseok safety or ending like his father if people find out.
And then we have Jihee who flat out says she wants a daughter just like Juwon. Not only because Juwon is cool like the Hulk. She knows he's been mistreated, persecuted and called a monster. Because no matter what happens her daughter will be safe. The way she probably found out of Heesoo's powers just before dying in the accident. She knew she was going to die and smiled widely because Heesoo was fine, she was going to be fine no matter what.

Moving (2023) is killing it with every aspect of the show. The supernatural elements and slice of life is blended seamlessly. Each main romance is endearing, from cute puppy love to agents falling in love despite their missions to a tough ordinary woman loving a softhearted monster.
The family dynamics is the main highlight of the show, the different ways a parent protects their children from what they inherit from them. On one hand, you have the Jang family who are glad that Huisoo will never get hurt because she inherited her father's powers. Contrasting the Kim family where Mihyun's daily concern is to keep Bongseok grounded and safe away from harm, preventing him from becoming like his father. And then you have the complete opposite with Ganghoon who has to hide his powers to protect his autistic father. You see these three kids navigating through their uniqueness with each other.
Even the villain is one of the best antagonist in kdrama to date, Frank has an interesting background that even as you hate the danger he poses to the protagonists, you start feeling a sense of pity as you watch him deal with parents who would go to hell and back just to protect their children and see him confront his own past of being abandoned by his own.

I inhaled what's out of Moving and I absolutely love it 😭
It reminds me of all the X-Men flavored superhuman tv shows that came out in the early 00s in the best way & I love the kids and their parents and the "hero of another story" elements they got going on throughout. if this keeps up momentum it might be my fave kdrama this year
