On this day, 7 March 1942, Lucy Parsons, anarchist, co-founder of the revolutionary Industrial Workers of the World union and lifelong advocate for working people, the homeless, women, and African-Americans, died in a house fire. Instead of voting for politicians, Parsons advocated direct action to change the world, advising workers: “Never be deceived that the rich will allow you to vote away their wealth.” As dangerous to the authorities in death as in life, the police confiscated all her papers and books. She was also the widow of Haymarket martyr Albert Parsons. Abandoned Police Station Occupied

The unused Paddington Green police station was squatted on friday by a coalition of anarchists and activists as part of the Green Anticapitalist Front's week of action. The plan for the station is to be demolished for a new cop shop to be built in its place.

The Occupiers have stated: "The intention is to hold the space and turn it into a community centre, the activities of which will culminate in the GAF Week of Action . This is motivated by the belief that capitalism by its very nature will continue to destroy our planet and ultimately our civilisation. Only by ending capitalism and finding a new system, immediately, can we hope to survive in any meaningful way to the end of this century. During the week of action the space will host workshops, skill shares, socials, planning sessions and a wide variety of other informative and entertaining events. While also acting as a base from which to launch actions to reclaim our public space from corporations and government, and strike at the very heart of capital.”

The Green Anticapitalist Front is an alliance of groups and individuals united by a belief that climate struggle is class struggle. Also that capitalism is largely at fault for our current climate crisis, and to prevent this crisis we need to move away from capitalism and the state. They've been active in the student strikes for the climate, local anti-fascist actions, mutual aid work, and wider anti-capitalist movements. In the face of environmental disaster this crew has taken the initiative and is organizing to fight back.

G.A.F Week of Action

Since the last election it has become clear the British government will not effectively combat the climate crisis, and now is the time to fight back. To show resistance to the ecoside being committed by the capitalist class and supported by many in Parliament, G.A.F have called for a week of action. If its claiming unoccupied buildings, guerrilla gardening, banner drops or organising social events, they've made a call to everyone anywhere to take action.

G.A.F is a wide and diverse group but is most active in London, and Bristol, on top of their upcoming week of action and Fuck The City march, they've already done skill shares, movie showings, strikes, and grassroots work. If you can donate to help keep them keep the fight donate here: LINK
