how do fanfic writers not get discouraged halfway through a story. what do i do if i just suddenly stop writing and decide its not worth spending my effort writing because it won't be good enough in the end anyway

#for me the crucial part is having at least just one solid person #to read and give you that immediate hit of feedback and praise #and to chat about the fic with you #the numbers the fic does afterwards i just have to ignore #it's up to the whims of the fandom gods #bc what gets popular is entirely unpredictable #and i always remind myself of whatever fandom staples people love #that i think are absolutely awful and hate them so much #and i remember that numbers have nothing to do with quality #it is completely unpredicitable #imo to survive you have to let go of the hope that the fic will do numbers #it's just a factor you can't control for #and i can keep the enthusiasm up if i have a little cheer squad #then i have my immediate audience feedback and the rest is just gravy

today:

gum graft surgery went fine i think. so far. the assistant complimented my manicure and then she and i and the periodontist talked about pop girlies and tattoos.

pain management so far has been okay but i've been staying on top of my meds bc any time it seems like something is wearing off, it's been like, an immediate flash of "oh that's going to really hurt if i let it huh."

i watched all of baby reindeer, and just. wow. wow. what a story that i think a lot of people need to see. it reminded me of S Town in a way. definitely watch it, but seek out content warnings if you want that sort of thing.
