Hunk and Lance groan as they return from their mission to obtain the yellow lion. Now, the entirety of the group was in the main command room of the Castle of Lions.
"Did we find the red lion yet?" asks Shiro. "Allura just located it. There's a bit of good news and bad news." Ceran says, scratching his head. "The good news is, the Red Lion's nearby. The bad news is, it's on board that Galra ship now orbiting Arus, which is the planet we're on."
"They're here already?" Shiro exclaims. "Yes. I guess my calculations were a bit off." replies Ceran. Suddenly, the monitor of the control panel in the middle of the room switches on.
"Princess Allura, this is Commander Sendak of the Galra Empire." says the person on the monitor. He looked very purple, almost cat-like. "I came on behalf of the Emperor Zarkon, Lord of the Known Universe. I am here to confiscate the lions. Turn them over to me, or I will destroy your planet." the monitor shuts off. Everyone in the room remains still, stunned because of what just happened.
"Sendak. I know that name. Alex is on that ship." Says Shiro. "Who's Alex?" Allura asks. "Shiro's sister." Keith responds.
"All right everyone, let's not panic." Ceran demands. "Not panic? The scary purple alien thing is driving his battleship towards us. We only have three working lions, and a castle that's like ten thousand years old." cries Hunk.
"Wait! This castle has a particle barrier we can activate." Princess Allura says, rushing to the control panel.
"Girl, you've already activated my particle barrie-" Lance says smugly. "Lance!" Shiro smacks Lance upside the head.
"The particle barrier won't hold Sendak's ion cannon forever." Ceran says. "The Galra technology must have advanced since we fought them last." Ceran furrowed his eyebrows.
"We've just gotta figure out our plan of action, and figure it out quickly." Shiro states.
"I say we pop through a wormhole and live to fight another day." Says lance with a smirk on his face. "I second that. Yes. We tried to find all the lions, right?" Hunk says in a rant like tone. "We gave it the old college try. Couldn't do it. We only have three. We can't form Voltron."
"I mean, I guess we could from a snake? Or a worm! To go through that hole, Lance that you were talking about." Hunk waves his arms in the air to resemble a worm. "It's settled then. Allura, you ride with me. One of you take the alien guy." Lance points towards Ceran, as he squints angrily at Lance.
"We can't just abandon Arus. The Galra will keep destroying planets and capturing prisoners until we stop them." says Pidge, going against Lance and Hunk's idea.
"Okay. If we run, then maybe Sendak will follow us and leave this planet alone, like when we left Earth." Hunk says in a matter-of-fact tone. "We form the snake-worm thingamajig and we-- [hisses] out of here."
"Sendak could destroy the planet then come after us anyway." Keith rationalizes. "Staying is our only option."
"Here's an option: shut your quiznak." Lance says with attitude.
"I don't think you're using that word correctly." Keith scowls. "What do you know, Mullet?" Lance yells, leaning closer to Keith. "We're staying." yells Keith, opposing Lance. "Leaving." yells Lance. "Staying!" yells Pidge, jumping into the argument. "Snake!" yells Hunk, not sure what to make of the situation.
"Guys. Stop!" shouts Shiro, getting in the middle of the opposing sides. "Princess Allura, these are your lions. You've delt with the Galra Empire before. You know what we're facing better than any of us. I believe we should stay, but ultimately it's your decision. What do you think is the best course of action?"
"You five paladins were brought here for a reason." Allura says passionately. "The Voltron Lions are meant to be piloted by you and you alone. We must fight and keep fighting until we defeat Zarkon. It is our destiny. Voltron is the universe's only hope. We are the universe's only hope."
"We're with you, Princess." Shiro says, following Allura's lead into another room. Soon, the paladins were ready and dressed in traditional paladin armor. Each one of them, other than Shiro is given a Bayard, the traditional weapon of the Paladins of Voltron, which takes a distinct shape for each paladin. Shiro's Bayard was lost with it's paladin.
"Our main priority is the Red Lion. However, I do sympathize for you and your sister. Do you know where she is located on the ship?" Allura says, pulling up a diagram of the ship. "Last time I was with her, we were being operated on in the laboratory by the druids." Shiro says, trying to recall his past.
"Okay, Keith focus on the red lion, while Shiro goes after his sister. Pidge will keep lookout and guard the green lion." Allura orders.
"That's a pretty big ship. How are we gonna know where the Red Lion is?" Keith asks.
"It's not a matter of "we." It's a matter of "you."" says Pidge, crossing her arms. "Pidge is right. Once you get in, you'll be able to feel its presence and like track it down." Hunk says.
"Yeah. You know how you felt that crazy energy while we were in the desert?" Lance says.
"Yeah, you made fun of me for that." Keith scoffs. "And I'm proud of that, but turns out it's exactly like that mumbo-jumbo." Lance says as he crosses his arms.
"Keith, remember, the Red Lion is extremely temperamental. You'll have to earn it's respect." Allura states. Keith nods and Shiro puts his hand on Keith's shoulder. "All right. Here's our plan of attack."
"The Galra empire knows about the Blue and Yellow Lions, but they don't know we have the Green Lion, too." Shiro states. "Hunk, Lance, you'll act as a decoy by pretending to give yourselves up. While Sendak is distracted, Keith, Pidge, and I will sneak onto the ship in the Green Lion. Keith will find the Red Lion, while I find Alex and Pidge guards our exit. Hunk, Lance, find some way to take down that ion cannon."
---At the Galra Ship---
---Keith's POV---
Pidge uses her Bayard to make a hole wide enough for a person to pass through on Sendak's ship. First Shiro goes through, then me, then Pidge. "Pidge what's your eta?" asks Lance through his helmet. We're lucky that our helmets have a sort of intercom built into them that allows for us paladins to talk back and forth. "We're in." Pidge whispers.
We seemed to have broken into some sort of hallway. "I remember this place, I've been here before. This way." Shiro says, leading me and Pidge towards the direction of the laboratory and hopefully the Red Lion. "After I was taken by the Galra cruiser off Kerberos, they brought us here." says Shiro.
"So, that means your other crew members, they might be held captive here. We… We've got to rescue them." Pidge says, a spark of hope in her voice.
"Pidge, we don't have time. We have to get the Red Lion and Alex and get back to Arus." Shiro grunts.
"But we can't just leave prisoners here!" Pidge exclaims.
"Look, no one understands that more than me, but, in war, we have to make hard choices." Shiro states, clearly distraught by his decision. "Now, let's get moving."
"No! Commander Holt is my father. He and my brother were the ones on the Kerberos Mission with you." Pidge exclaims, on the brink of tears. "Commander Holt is your father?" asks Shiro.
"Yes. I've been searching everywhere for him and my brother. And I'm not going to give up looking when I'm this close. I won't!" Pidge turns around, ready to leave to go find her family.
"I'm coming with you." Shiro says after thinking for a minute. "What?" I ask, shocked. What about Alex?
"I remember where the prisoners are held. Keith, you go find Alex and the Red Lion." Shiro orders. "By myself? What about Alex." I ask. Of all times, he has to leave right now?
"Minor change of plans. You'll be fine. Down this hallway to the right should be the laboratory. Just remember, patience yields focus." Shiro gives me the backpack with an airtight helmet and clothes for Alex. "So-" Shiro gets interrupted by noise and light beaming down the hallway. "Run!" whispers Shiro.
I dash in the opposite direction from Shiro and Pidge, putting the backpack on. It should be down this hallway and to the right. I take the first right near the end of the hallway. It should be one of these rooms, right?
"Come on… come on…" I whisper to myself. The first room on the left looked like a laboratory, a reclined chair was in the middle of the room. To the right of the chair was a monitor and what looked like a doctor's station with syringes and scalpels and all kinds of tools laid out. Alex wasn't in there though. So I move onto the next room on the right.
"Shit!" I whisper as a hooded figure moves along the glass door of the second room. I peeked my head out to check if Alex was in there. It looked like a bunch of holding cells, cages, with alien individuals huddled on the inside. Although, it didn't look like she was in there, I could never be too sure. There was a lot of people in those cages. I rush to the next room on the left.
The third room was very dark on the inside, with a slight green glow radiating off a water tank. Fuck there's only one room left. If she's not in there, I bet she might be in the room with the cages. The last room on the right looked like a hospital operating room. And there on the operating table laid Alex.
"Alex." I whispered, creeping into the room, making sure there was no one else inside. It seemed empty, only Alex and I. I stood up and rushed to the operating table, she was restrained down, unable to move. It looked like she was hooked up to an IV bag filled with black fluid flowing into her right arm. The veins on her right arm had turned black up to her elbow. I quickly take out the IV catheter, the needle slowly ejecting from her skin. Her eyes flutter open.
"Alex. Hold on, I'm getting you out of here." I say, placing a hand on her shoulder. "Keith? Are you real this time?" She asks, lifting her head. This time? Does that mean-
"Yes. Hold on." I say, grabbing my knife from the scabbard tied around my waist. I quickly cut the restraints located at her ankles, her arms, and her waist. "Can you stand?" I quickly ask.
"I think so…" She says, propping herself up in a sitting position, stroking her wrist from where the restraints sat tightly. I offer her my hand and she takes it, twisting her body to face me. She hops down from the operating table which was high off the ground, stumbling in the process.
"Woah, I got you." I say, grabbing her waist to prevent her from falling over.
"I'm okay. I can walk." She says looking at me, smiling. She always plays the tough guy act around everyone. I wonder why. I let go of her hand and waist.
"Here." I say, reaching for the backpack. "There's some clothes in there and a helmet so you can breathe oxygen when we get outta here." I say, handing over the backpack.
"Thanks…" She says, staring at me. I stare back. "… Could you turn around?" She asks.
"Yeah, of course." I reply, turning around. God, I'm such a fucking idiot. About a minute later, she was dressed, a nice replacement from the tattered clothes she had before.
"We have to find the Red Lion now, so be careful and follow me." I say. "Red Lion? Like from Voltron?" she asks. "You know about Voltron?" I ask.
"Well, more or less, I've heard people talk while I've been here." whispers Alex, following me out to the hallway. Her hair changed from being short and fully black to having white on the underside of her hair and being semi-long. She peeks down the hallway, tilting her head. Her hair falls away from her neck, exposing a barcode on the right side of her neck. I assume Shiro has the same one, as that wasn't there before she left for Kerberos.
"Down this hallway?" She asks, giving the all clear signal. I nod, as I take the lead and run down the hallway. It leads to a fork in the road. I take a left, as I hear footsteps on the right path of the hallway, Alex following closely behind. It leads to another fork in the road, so I take another left, and I go straight, then take another left, and I end up in the same place as before.
"Ughh." I groan. "You've gotta be kidding me!" I say, as Alex grabs my shoulder. "Focus." she says, as I remember what Shiro had said to me a million times before. "Patience yields focus." I say, closing my eyes. I feel in my mind that the Red lion is close behind me. "Gotcha." I smile as I turn to run down the hallway behind me.

"I'm Lance. And you're right here in my arms." Lance says charmingly. "Your ears." the woman adds. "They're hideous." she scowls. "What's wrong with them?"
"Nothing's wrong with them! They heard exactly what you said about them!" Lance yells, heartbroken. The woman grabs Lance by the ear, twisting him around so his knees hit the floor.
"Who are you? Where is King Alfor? What are you doing in my castle?" the woman screams, holding Lance captive. "A giant blue lion brought us here. That's all we know." Lance whimpers.
"How do you have the Blue Lion?-" the woman lets Lance go. "What happened to its paladin? What are you all doing here? Unless..."  she stumbles. "How long has it been?"
"We don't know what you're talking about." Shiro states. "Why don't you tell us who you are? Maybe we can help."
"I am Princess Allura of Planet Altea." she says "I've got to find out where we are and how long we've been asleep." demands the princess, going to the control panel. She places her hands on either side of the panel, making it light up with information. The second cryo-pod emerges from the floor, holding what looks to be a man in his mid-twenties. The pod opens to spill out the liquid and lets the man fall to the floor.
"Ow..." says the man. "Princess. What is all of this?" he asks as he manages to get up onto his hands and knees.
"Ceran. I'm glad you're okay." says the princess. "Oh no, it can't be." The white haired man stands up with the assistance of Shiro. "What is it, princess?" The man asks. The princess shudders and a wave of concern spreads across the group.
"We've been asleep for ten thousand years." the princess stutters out.
---10,000 years ago---
"Zarkon." King Alfor says as his monitor picks up the transmission the Galra fleet sent out. You can see fire surrounding the castle as Galra ships attack it.
"Your fleet has been destroyed, Alfor. I will be there shortly to claim Voltron." says Zarkon, a large Galra emperor. Suddenly, a Galra ship strikes at King Alfor's castle.
"Father, we must form Voltron and fight before it's too late!" Allura says, clenching her fists.
"It's already too late. We must send the lions away." demands King Alfor. "We can't risk them falling into Zarkon's hands."
"We can't give up hope!" exclaims Allura. "I'm sorry daughter. If all goes well, I will see you again soon." says Alfor, as he touches the princess's neck, putting her to sleep. He must've then put both her and her bodyguard in the cryo-pods.
---Back to the Present---
"Planet Altea and all of the planets in our solar system have been destroyed." Allura states angrily. "Ceran, Father is gone. Our entire civilization..." she says shakily. "Zarkon."
"Zarkon?" Shiro asks as he recalls the terrifying face of the emperor. "He was the King of the Galra. A vile creature and an enemy to all free people." Allura states, clenching her dress in her hand.
"I remember now... I was his prisoner." Shiro says as he looks up at the princess. "He's still alive? Impossible!" Allura scowls. "I can't explain it, but it's true. He's searching for a super weapon called Voltron." says Shiro.
"He's searching for it because he knows it's the only thing that can defeat him, and that's exactly why we must find it before he does." says Allura.
"Princess, you must eat. It's been ten thousand years." Ceran says, placing his hand on Allura's shoulder. "I'm not hungry..." says Allura. "Man, ten thousand years? That's like one hundred plus ten." Lance says with a straight face. "That's times ten." Keith states. "Whatever, dropout." Lance replies.
"I can't believe your civilization created such advanced technology ten thousand years ago." says Shiro, clearly impressed. "It must have been an incredible place."
"Yes, it was..." Ceran strokes his white hair back. "but now it's gone and we're the last Alteans alive." he looks at Allura. The princess looks away with sadness in her eyes. Ceran walks up to the princess and places a hand on her shoulder. Allura starts sobbing, hugging Ceran. Just then, an alarm goes off, signifying something bad is happening.
"A Galra battleship has set it's tracker to us!" yells Ceran. "How did they find us?" asks Allura.
"How long until they find us?" asks Shiro. "At their speed? I'd say probably a couple of days." replies Ceran, looking at the control panel monitor.
"Good, let them come. By the time they get here, you five will have reformed Voltron, and together, we will destroy Zarkon's empire!" Princess Allura states.
"Princess, there are five of these lions. How are we going to find the rest?" Shiro questions.
"King Alfor connected the lions to Allura's life force. She alone is the key to the lions' whereabouts." Ceran states as Allura opens the control panel. A beam of light shines down on her and soon, there are a million particles soaring throughout the air around the group, signifying all the planets, stars, and constellations in their location. Everyone gasps at how beautiful the sight is.
"These are coordinates." Pidge states. "The black  lion looks like it's in the same location as the blue lion."
"Very observant. That's because the Black Lion is in the castle." Allura smiles. "To keep the Black Lion out of Zarkon's hands, King Alfor locked it in the castle. It can only be freed if the other four lions are present." says Ceran in a dark tone.
"As you have found,  the lions choose their pilots. It is a mystical bond that cannot be forced." Allura states. "The quintessence of the pilot is mirrored in his lion. Together, they form something greater than science can explain." Allura scrolls to the black lion's location.
"The Black Lion is the decisive head of Voltron. It will take a pilot who's a born leader and in control at all times, someone whose men will follow without hesitation." She says. "That is why, Shiro, you will pilot the Black Lion." Allura scrolls to the green lion's location.
"The green lion has an inquisitive personality and needs a pilot of intellect and daring. Pidge, you will pilot the Green Lion." Allura scrolls to the blue lion.
"The Blue Lion-" Allura says before she is rudely interrupted. "Hold up. let me guess. Takes the most handsome slash best pilot of the bunch?" Lance smiles while holding his chin. Allura rolls her eyes and moves on to the yellow lion's location.
"The Yellow Lion is caring and kind. Its pilot is one who puts the needs of others above his own." she states. "His heart must be mighty. As the leg of Voltron, you will lift the team up and hold them together." Hunk points to himself in question. Allura nods.
"The Red Lion is temperamental and the most difficult to master." Allura says while pulling up a picture of the red lion. "It's faster and more agile than the others, but also more unstable. It's pilot needs to be someone who relies more on instincts than skill alone. Keith, you will fly the Red Lion." Allura declares as Keith smirks. "What? This guy?" Lance complains, pointing to Keith.
"Unfortunately, I cannot locate the Red Lion's coordinates yet. There must be something wrong with the castle." Allura sighs. "Once all the lions are united, you will form Voltron, the most powerful warrior ever known, the Defender of the Universe."
"Okay, we don't have much time. Pidge and I will go after the Green Lion. Lance, you take Hunk and get the yellow one. Keith, you stay here. If you locate that Red Lion, go get it." Shiro orders.
"In the meantime, I'll get this castle's defenses ready." Allira says. "They'll be sorely needed."
"I'll ready a pod and load the coordinates so that you can reach the Green Lion." says Ceran. As the four paladins leave to retrieve the two lions, Keith is left alone with his thoughts.
---One Year Ago: seven days after Kerberos mission---
---Keith's POV---
"Alex...?" I ask as the girl in front of me stands completely still with her back facing me. On her back was a backpack, her hand grasping another backpack. She drops it to the floor. We were in the hallway of the dorms, my dorm being a few doors down from hers. It was the middle of the night, around 3'oclock in the morning.
"Keith... It's not what it looks like." She says, slowly turning towards me. Not what it looks like? It looks like you're leaving. What else could it possibly be?
"What then, tell me you're not actually gonna-" Keith starts to say. "What else am I supposed to do?" Alex starts crying. My heart drops. She's not one to break down and cry. Shiro's disappearance really did a number on her. "I need to know." replies Alex.
"Let me come with you." I softly say, inching closer. "No. I can't let you go. You'd be risking your whole career. Everything you and Shiro worked hard on." Alex says, wiping away the tears running down her chin. "But what about your career? You worked hard too." I ask, trying to convince her to either stay or take me with her.
"Please, my time at the Garrison is practically over, what with my back." I thought about it for a moment. She's right.
"Okay, then let me help you. You know you can't blast a shuttle into space all by yourself." I say, smiling. She smiled back at me. I can't stand it when she cries. I grab the backpack she dropped on the ground and follow her to the Garrison's launch bay.
"Which one of these are you taking?" I ask, looking around at the different types of shuttles. "That one." Alex says, pointing with her flashlight to the shuttle that the Galaxy Garrison had set up for two days from now. They were going to use it to fly to their furthest space station. "It already has more than enough cryogenic gas in it to take me there and back. The engineers triple checked that it's functional. It's a clear winner." Alex whispers.
"You're gonna get into so much trouble when you come back..." I sigh. "That's if they catch me." Alex winks at me. I chuckle.
"Okay, you ready?" She asks me. I nod at her and give her the backpack from my hand. "Then off you go to the control room." Alex says, pointing to the room above the launch pad. I start heading in the direction of the staircase that leads up to the control room.
"Wait Keith." Alex says as she puts her backpacks on the floor. She runs to me and gives me a radio, giving me hug in the process. "I'll stay in touch with you the whole time, so don't worry, okay?" she says with a smile on her face.
"Where'd you even get this?" I ask, taking a closer look at the radio. "I stole it." She smirks.
"Okay, off you go now." she says as she backs up and grabs her stuff. I walk up the steps to the control room, making sure not to trip from how dark it is. Once I make it to the control room, I point my flashlight out the window, looking to see how Alex is doing. She had already opened the door and entered the shuttle, all I could see was a shadow of her person on the inside of the shuttle.
"All clear." Alex whispered over the radio. "Let's see..." I say to myself as I look around the control room. I pull up the telemetry data to make sure the space shuttle is in good condition. I don't understand half of this shit, but it looks good anyways. I then look to see how to open the roof for launch. I see a lever that says "roof hatch", so I pull it. The roof creaks open pretty loudly. "Well, here goes nothing." I say. "Are you all strapped in?" I ask Alex over the radio.
"Yeah. I'm ready when you are." Alex says over the radio. Okay, I guess this is really happening. I press the big red button that starts up the launch of the shuttle, as the rocket engines start. At this point, the soundwaves of the expulsion of gas is making the launch heard from the whole Garrison. The shuttle launches, and moves swiftly against the earth's gravity. "What in the hell!" could be heard from behind the door.
"Shit I gotta hide." I say to myself, as I grab my radio and cram myself into one of the lockers placed along the walls of the command room. It'll be a while before I can get out of here and make contact with Alex again.

The Castle of Lions
Tumblr media
---One Year Ago: six days after Kerberos mission---
"Miss Shirogane, please clam down. You are allotted time off to grieve the death of your brother, but other than that, I cannot help you in this regard." Admiral Sanda says, closing her journal.
"But you've only stated that the crew of the Kerberos mission made a mistake, costing them their lives. You haven't specified what mistake or how he died. I need to know what happened to my brother." Alex says, standing up, slamming her hands on the Admiral's desk. Admiral Sanda squints.
"That's confidential information, Miss Shirogane. Unless you want me to call security, I suggest you escort yourself back to your dorm room." Admiral Sanda says, pointing out the glass doors. Alex pushes aside the chair she was previously sitting in and walks towards the door.
"I will find out what happened to my brother with or without your help, Admiral. It's only a matter of time before the truth is revealed." Alex says as she exits the office.
"Bitch." Alex mutters to herself as she lowers her head, however, as soon as she turned the corner, she managed to bump into someone.
"Alex… What are you doing here? I thought you were given time off?" says Keith, rubbing his chest where the hard-headed girl ran into him.
"I should be asking you that, aren't you supposed to be in class?" Alex asks, rubbing her forehead. "I came to ask the Admiral about the Kerberos mission." Keith says sternly.
"Don't bother. She's not gonna tell us anything." Alex scoffs. "All she said was a mistake cost them their lives, the rest is "confidential"." Alex explains as her and Keith walk in the direction opposite of the Admiral's office.
"So what do we do now?" asks Keith. "You are going back to class, and I am going back to my dorm." says Alex nonchalantly. "I can come with you, you know. I can skip class just for today." Keith says, frowning. "No. You don't wanna get kicked out of the Garrison, do you?" Alex asks.
"Fine, I'll go back to class…" Keith says as he walks away. " Bye, Keith…" Alex mutters under her breath. "Time to pack…"
--- One Year Later: location of the Fraunhofer line---
"Okay, I admit it. This is fucking creepy." Lance says, staring at the mountain range. "I'm getting a reading." says Hunk, holding his Voltron Geiger counter. Electronic beeping could be heard from the machine as Hunk and the rest of the group ventured towards what they hoped to be Voltron. Eventually they find themselves going into a cave with ancient markings along the cave walls.
"What are these?" asks Shiro, examining the markings up close. "These are the lion carvings I was telling you about." replies Keith. "They're everywhere around here." Lance walks up to the wall and wipes away the dust off a lion marking. Suddenly all the markings turned blue, and the ground beneath them crumbles. Scrams are heard echoing throughout the cave, as the group falls down the newfound hole and into a pool of water.
"Woah." Lance says, as he turns to face the giant blue mechanical lion in front of him. It had a sort of blue force field around it. "Is this it? Is this the Voltron?" asks Pidge, gasping at the sheer size of the lion. "It must be…" says Shiro.
"This is what's been causing all of this crazy energy out here." Keith says as he starts to walk up to the lion. "Looks like there's a force field around it."
"Does anyone else get the feeling this thing is staring at them?" Lance says, moving side to side, watching the lion's eyes waver. "Mmm, no." Shiro says. "Yeah, the eyes are totally following me. " says Lance, rushing up ahead.
"I wonder how we get through this." Keith says, cautiously putting his hands up against the blue force field. "Maybe you just have to knock." Lance jokes, as he knocks on the force field twice. Suddenly, a flash of blue light emerges from the site where Lance had knocked on the protective barrier. The force field seemed to lower, as blue markings light up on the ground in a circle around the lion, along with markings on the wall surrounding it. These markings show five lions, coming together to form one giant robot named Voltron.
"Woah." says the group collectively. "Voltron is a robot. Voltron is a huge, huge, awesome robot!" exclaims Hunk, punching his fists in the air. "And this thing is only one part of it! I wonder where the rest of them are." Pidge frowns.
"This is what they're looking for." says Shiro with a concerned look on his face. "Incredible." says Keith. Unexpectedly, the lion then moves, lowering its head to the floor. Pidge and Hunk scream, cowering away as if it's going to eat them. The blue lion's mouth opens and a ramp retracts from it's jaw, urging the group to go inside the lion's head. Lance chuckles and runs towards the inside of the head, making sure to be the first one in.
"Huh." Lance sighs, getting to know the interior. There is a single chair in the middle of the head, with what appears to be controls around the chair. Lance sits down in the chair, however, as soon as he does, the chair scoots itself forward closer to the controls. "Ahh!" Lance yells as the chair moves.
"Oh shit! Very nice!" Lance says as the "eyes" of the lion open to where you can see the surrounding area of the cave. Lance starts playing with the controls. The lion stands up and roars, the rest of the group already inside.
"Okay, now let's try this." Lance says as he grabs two of the control handles and pushes it forward. The Lion starts moving fast, breaking through the walls of he cave and flying out over the desert landscape. Unsteadily, the lion does a backflip and falls to the floor, however it wasn't long before Lance starts playing with the controls again, making the lion move back and forth rapidly. "You are the-" Keith starts talking, grabbing ahold of the chair as so not to fall backwards. "WORST pilot- ever."
"What in the fucking hell is that?" Says Commander Iverson, standing next to a member of the Galaxy Garrison. They were spectating some sort of blue lion moving haphazardly throughout the desert. "It appears to be a flying blue lion, sir." the man standing next to the commander scratches his head.
After a few minutes, Lance seemed to get a hold of the lion's controls. "Isn't this thing awesome?" Lance exclaims with a huge grin on his face. "Make it stop, make it stop." Hunk says with tears in his eyes, trying to hold his stomach fluids in. "I'm not making it do anything, it's like it's on autopilot." Lance says, laughing.
Just then, the lion bursts towards the sky. "Where are you going?" Asks Keith, digging his nails into the chair as the lion darts into space. "I said it's on autopilot. I have no clue where it's going." says Lance. As they leave their home planet, a large alien ship approaches them.
"Holy shit, is that really an alien ship?" says Hunk as his mouth drops. "It's going towards earth, are we supposed to stop it?" asks Lance, ready to fight. "They found me." says Shiro with a glazed look on his face. Suddenly, the alien ship starts attacking, firing laser beams in the direction of the lion. Lance does everything in his power to avoid getting hit by the lasers.
"We've gotta get it out of here!" screams Pidge, holding onto the chair. "Hang on!" says Lance as he charges the lion towards the ship. "Alright! I think I know what to do." Lance says.
"Be careful, man. This isn't a simulator." Pidge says with a panicked look on her face. "Well that's good-" Lance laughs. "I always wreck the simulator." Lance shoots off a laser beam from the lion's mouth towards the ship. Explosions can be seen on the ship across where the beam had struck. "Let's try this!" Lance yells as he dashes right up next to the ship. Lance presses a button to have the blue lion retract it's claws, scratching along the ship. Explosions follow.
"Okay, I think it's time to get these guys away from our planet." Lance says, steering the lion away from the ship and away from earth. The ship seemed to have it's goal set on capturing the lion, because it soon turned and blasted after the lion.
"They're gaining on us." says Pidge, clearly concerned. "It's weird, they're not trying to shoot us, they're just chasing." Lance says. "Where are we?" asks Keith.
"Edge of the Solar System. There's Kerberos." Shiro says as he looks out the window, seeing Pluto and a small moon orbiting around it. "It takes weeks for our ships to get out this far. We got out here in five seconds." says Pidge in a matter-of-fact tone. Suddenly, the lion ejects what looks like a black hole or a portal.
"This may seem crazy, but I think the Lion wants us to go through there." yells Lance, halting his position. "Where does it go?" asks Pidge. "I don't know." replies Lance. "Shiro, you're the senior officer here. What should we do?"
"Look, whatever's happening, the lion knows more than we do." Shiro says. "I say we trust it, but we're a team now. We should decide together." Shiro states as he puts a hand on Lance's shoulder.
"All right, I guess we're all ditching class tomorrow." Lance says as he accelerates through the portal. Before the alien ship could go through the portal, however, it closes.
"I don't recognize any of these constellations." says Shiro. "We must be a long, long way from earth."
"The lion seems to want to go to this planet. I think- I think it's going home." says Lance, as the lion accelerates towards the closest planet. As soon as they enter the planet's atmosphere, the lion appears to catch fire, a shield of heat radiating off due to friction. However, as the lion gets situated to the gravity of the planet, the shield of fire dissipates.
"Um, is it just me or is anyone else having second thoughts about flying through a mysterious wormhole?" Hunk asks, grasping the chair for comfort. "Why are we listening to a robotic lion anyway?"
"It got us away from that alien warship, didn't it?" Lance says as he squints at Hunk.
"I don't know if you noticed, but we're in an alien warship." Keith declares. "Oh, are you scared?" asks Lance. "With you at the helm? Terrified." Keith replies mockingly.
"All right, knock it off." exclaims Shiro. "No one's happy to be in this situation, but we're here now. If we want to get through this, we've got to do it together."
"So, what do we do?" Pidge asks. "It looks like there's a castle up ahead. Maybe that's where this thing is taking us." Lance says, pointing to the castle. It looked like five white and blue mechanical icebergs on a mountain, with a long run-down bridge leading up to it. The blue lion lands at the front entrance of the castle.
"Keep your guard up." Shiro says strictly. "My crew was captured once by aliens once. I'm not going to let it happen again." The lion opens it's mouth to let the group of five out of it's head. After the group is settled on the ground, the lion roars, opening the doors to the castle.
"Hello." Hunk says as the group ventures into the dark castle. "From the size of the lion, I expected the steps to be bigger." Pidge pointed at the stairs, which to their surprise were "human-sized". All of a sudden, a beam of light drops down from the ceiling, capturing them where they stand.
"Hold for identity scan." says a computer voice from an unknown location. A ring of light forms around each of them, scanning from their feet to their heads.
"Why are we here? What do you want with us?" Shiro asks the computer, although it fails to respond to him. Instead, a path is lit , encouraging the group to walk down the corridor.
"I guess we're going that way." says Pidge, starting to walk in the direction of the light. The corridor is long with many winding twists and steps. Each time the group inches forward, a light is lit in the direction they are supposed to go. Finally, a pair of doors open to reveal a room. It seemed to have a control panel in the middle, surrounded with eight concealed cryo-pods.
"Where the hell are we?" asks Lance. "It's some kind of control room." Pidge gasps. The cryo-pods eject from the floor, revealing two frozen people. "Are these guys… dead?" asks Hunk, concerned. The first cryo-pod opens, spilling out a sort of watery liquid. There appeared to be a woman in her early twenties in the pod, "Father!" she gasps as she fell. However, Lance managed to grab a hold of her before she fell to the floor. She had an accent, white hair, and pointed ears, appearing to be not of this world. She grasps Lance for support, as she stands on her feet. Lance smiles and blushes.
"Hello." he says with a sparkle in his eyes. "Who are you? Where am I?" the woman asks.

Shiro's Sister
Tumblr media
---At the Canyon---
"Woah! What the hell is that thing?" Lance says looking through the binoculars. From what it looks like, the Galaxy Garrison had set up a tent and extracted whatever, or whoever, was inside the ship. The ship was strapped onto a transportation truck, shuttles and Garrison members surrounding it. "And who the hell is she?" Lance aims the binoculars to a general exiting the tent. Pidge knocks him upside the head. "Ow!" Lance groans. At this point, Pidge takes her computer out of her bag and puts on her headphones.
"Right, alien ship. Fuck, we'll never get past all those guards to get a look." Lance whines, lowering the binoculars.
"Wait, they set up a camera in there and I grabbed it's feed. Look!" Pidge whispers as to not alert the Garrison of their presence. Hunk and Lance look over Pidge's shoulder. Pidge's computer shows Shiro, the junior officer who went missing on the Kerberos mission, strapped down to a table. He looked a little worse for wear, as his formerly black hair now had a white streak at the front. His face had a huge scar across the bridge of his nose, indicating that he got in a fight with someone. Or something. His right arm was replaced with some sort of mechanical arm. There were three members of the Galaxy Garrison, including the commander, inside the tent. They were wearing white hazmat suits with ventilation masks.
"Hey! What are you doing?" says Shiro through the computer, static surrounding his voice. "Calm down Shiro, we just need to keep you quarantined until we run some tests." the commander of the Garrison.
"You have to listen to me-" Shiro grunts, trying to free his restraints. "They destroy worlds! Aliens are coming!"
"That's Shiro, the pilot of the Kerberos mission. That guy's my hero! " exclaims Lance. "Well, guess he's not dead in space after all.." Hunk sighs in relief. "But where's the rest of the crew?" Pidge asks as the three cadets inch closer to the computer monitor.
"Do you know how long you've been gone?" asks a Garrison member through the computer.
"I dunno. Months. Years? Look, there's no time. Aliens are coming here for a weapon. They're probably on their way." Shiro says as the three Garrison members work on putting him in quarantine. "They'll destroy us. We have to find Voltron."
"Sir, take a look at this. It appears his arm has been replaced with a cyborg prosthetic." says one of the members. "Put him under until we know what that thing can do." says the commander under the hazmat suit.
"Nonono. No. Don't put me under! There's no time! My sister is still up there, we have to get Voltron and save her!" Shiro says, struggling against his restraints.
"What are they doing? He's a legend. They're not even gonna listen to him?" asks Lance in disbelief. "We have to get him out." says Pidge.
"Uh, I hate to be the voice of reason, always, but weren't we just watching the computer because there's no way to get past the guards?" Hunk says, gesturing to the guards outside of the tent.
"That was before we were properly motivated. We've just gotta think. Could we tunnel in?" Lance asks. "Maybe we could get some hazmat suits and sneak in like med techs." Pidge thinks.
"What we really need is a distraction." says Lance. Suddenly explosions spark from outside the tent. "Is that the aliens? Are they here? They got here so quick!" Hunk panics, holding his arms to his head.
"No, those explosions were a distraction, for him." Pidge points to someone riding a hoverbike. "The Garrison's headed towards the blast, and he's sneaking in from the other side." Pidge exclaims. Lance takes out the binoculars from his pocket and aims it towards the mystery person. From what they can see, it looks like a guy wearing a red jacket, his face covered by a bandana.
"Oh, he is not going to beat us in there!" Lance yells. "That guy is always trying to one-up me!" Lance mutters under his breath. "Who is it?" asks Hunk. "Keith!" replies Lance, running after the guy. "Are you sure?" says Hunk as he follows Lance. "Who's Keith?" Pidge asks as she's forced to run alongside the other two cadets.
---Inside the Tent---
--- Keith's POV---
"These readings are off the chart." I can hear one of the Garrison members say from inside the tent. As I sneak in, I know I'm going to have to take these sons of bitches out.
"Hey!" one of the three Garrison members yells, as they rush in to restrain me. I get into fighting position and jab the first guy in the face, knocking him flat on his back. The second guy hesitates, so I take my chance. I give him a blow to the gut, throwing him against the computers they had set up. I lock eyes with the last member as he charges at me. I quickly turn and kick him in the stomach sending him flying. His head hits the table as I run to Shiro's side.
"Shiro… Can you hear me?" I ask as I lightly pat his face to try and wake him up. "Where's Alex?" He's not responding, they must've drugged him. I quickly take out my knife and cut off his restraints. Then I grab him and sling one of his arms over my shoulder, making him easier to carry.
"Nope. No, you-- No, no, no. No, you don't. I'm saving Shiro." says some guy as he storms into the tent. "Who are you?" I ask as the dude grabs Shiro's other arm and throws it over his shoulder.
"Who am I? Uh, the name's Lance." the dude says as he blinks at me. "Really? are you an engineer?" I ask, confused. Am I supposed to know him from somewhere?
"No, I'm a pilot! We were, like, rivals. You know, Lance and Keith, neck and neck." Lance says.
"Oh, wait. I remember you. You're a cargo pilot." I reply, glaring at him. "Well, not anymore. I'm fighter class now, thanks to you washing out." Lance says, glaring back.
"Well, congratulations." I sigh as we both carry Shiro out of the tent.
"Oh, man. They're coming back and they do not look happy." says a big guy standing outside the tent. "We've gotta go!" Lance and I pick up the pace, hurrying back to my hoverbike. "Uh, do you mind if we catch a ride with you?" says the big guy. Of course I mind. "Is this thing going to be big enough for all of us?" some chick with glasses yells.
"No." I reply. I can see the lights of the Garrison shuttles heading towards us, so I quickly start up my hoverbike. I do a sharp turn-around and turn the throttle towards me, accelerating fast.
"Can't this thing go any faster?" asks Lance. "We could toss out some non-essential weight." I reply dryly. "Oh yeah- Okay, that was an insult. I get it." Lance gestures towards himself.
"Big man, lean left!" I shout. I managed to get some of the shuttles wiped out on the rocks. Wait, I can go down to the second level of the canyon. "Big man, lean right!" I shout back. We fly across the ravine and onto the second layer of the canyon. One of the shuttles was wiped out from that turn, so there must only be one more shuttle chasing us, from the looks of it.
"Guys?" the big guy stammers "Is that a cliff up ahead?" "Oh, no, no, no." Lance screams.
"Yup." I say, revving the engine. This'll be fun. The rest of the people behind me start screaming as I charge down the cliff. "What are you doing, you're gonna kill us all!" Lance screams at me.
"Just shut up and trust me." I reply. I shift gears right as we're about to reach the ground, so that it hovers above the ground. We managed to get away. I guess I'll bring them to my house, since we're already almost there.
---At Keith's House---
By the time the cadets arrived at Keith's house, it was already morning. The house was more of a wooden shack in the middle of the desert. Lance and Keith had carried Shiro inside to let him rest. A couple hours later, he was ready to talk. Shiro had gone outside for some fresh air, Keith followed alongside.
"It's good to have you back." Keith tells Shiro, placing a hand on his shoulder. "It's good to be back." replies Shiro.
"So, what happened out there, where's Alex?" Keith asks in a concerned tone.
"My head's still pretty scrambled. we were on an alien ship, but Alex helped me escaped. It's all a blur." Shiro said, rubbing his forehead. "How did you know to come save me when I crashed?"
"You should come see this…" Keith says, guiding Shiro back into his home. Once inside, Keith revealed a corkboard being hidden behind a bedsheet.
"What have you been working on?" Shiro asks as the rest of the cadets gather around to examine the corkboard. On it was multiple printed photographs of the landscape and what looked like lion carvings. In the center was a huge map with three points being triangulated, with "ENERGY SOURCE" written in the center of the tree points.
"I can't explain it, really." Keith shrugs. "After getting booted from the Garrison, after Alex left, I was kind of lost and found myself drawn out to this place." Keith frowns and turns towards Shiro. "It's like something… some energy was telling me to search."
"Who's Alex?" asks Pidge, confusion in her eyes. "My sister." replies Shiro. "She was an engineering cadet at the Galaxy Garrison."
"Shiro has a sister?" Lance asks. "Wait, "was"?" Hunk asks nervously.
"She's still Zarkon's prisoner. Last time I saw her, she was on the same ship as me." Shiro says in a worried voice. There was an obvious worry amongst the Keith and Shiro. Shiro's forehead wrinkles while Keith turns away to face the corkboard.
"Well, while I was searching I found this area." Keith points to the middle of the triangulated points. "It's an outcropping of giant boulders with caves covered in these ancient markings. Each tells a slightly different story about a blue lion, but they all share clues leading to some event, some arrival happening last night." Keith frowns and looks at Shiro. "Then you showed up."
"I should thank you all for getting me out. Lance, right?" Shiro asks, turning towards Lance and extending his mechanical arm in a hand shaking position. Lance hesitates for a split second, but ends up shaking his mechanical arm anyways. Shiro turns towards the other two cadets.
"The nervous guy is Hunk. I'm Pidge." Pidge reaches out to shake Shiro's hand. "So, did anyone else from your crew make it out?" she asks. "I'm not sure. I remember the mission and being captured. After that, it's just bits and pieces."
"Yeah, sorry to interrupt, but back to the aliens. Where are they now? Are they coming? Are they coming for us? Like, where are they at this very moment?" Hunk asks nervously.
"I can't really put it together. I remember the word "Voltron"." Shiro thinks back. "It's some kind of weapon they're looking for, but I don't know why. Whatever it is, I think we need to find it before they do."
"Well, last night, I was rummaging through Pidge's stuff-" Hunk says as he pulls out her backpack. "and I found this picture." Hunk takes out a picture of someone who looks similarly to Pidge posing with a girl with longer hair. "Look it's her girlfriend." Hunk laughs.
"Hey, give me that! What were you doing in my stuff?" Pidge snatches the backpack away from Hunk. "I was looking for a candy bar. But, then, I started reading her diary." Hunk takes a small red book out of his pocket. "WHAT?" screams Pidge. "I noticed the repeating series of numbers the aliens were searching for looks a lot like a Fraunhofer line." Hunk says.
"Frown who?" Keith asks with a blank expression. "It's a number describing the emission spectrum of an element, only, this element doesn't exist on Earth. I thought it might be this Voltron, and I think I can build a machine to look for it, like a Voltron Geiger counter." Hunk says excitingly.
"Hunk, you big, fucking genius!" Lance exclaims. "It's pretty fascinating, really. The wavelength looks like this." Hunk pulls out a folded piece of paper with a graph on it. There are multiple black points on the paper, connected together with an orange line.
"Give me that!" Keith exclaims, snatching the paper from Hunk. He goes over to the corkboard and holds the graph up to the picture of the mountainous desert landscape picture. The points on the graph seemed to match up perfectly with the points and valleys on the mountains.

The Kerberos Mission
Tumblr media
---Kerberos: Moon of Pluto---
Three astronauts gather on the moon orbiting Pluto, "Kerberos", trying to wrap up the expedition they were sent on.
"Easy son, this ice is delicate." Samuel Holt states, examining the piece of ice being ejected by a machine. They have drilled a hole in the satellite's surface, extracting samples to analyze and bring back to their home planet, Earth.
"Amazing. Isn't this exciting Shiro?" Matthew Holt asks. The kid Matthew Holt had just barely became a member of the Galaxy Garrison, a military regiment tasked with obtaining knowledge of space. His father Samuel Holt has been on a couple missions in the past, but this is the furthest they've ever traveled.
"You guys get a little more excited about ice samples than I do." Shiro laughs, holding the retractor. Takashi Shirogane, also known as Shiro, is a junior office at the Galaxy Garrison.
"This is history in the making. Not only have we traveled farther than any human ever has, but this ice could hold microscopic clues about the existence of life outside Earth." says Samuel Holt.
"Think of it, Dad. We could use those clues to become the first people to meet aliens." Matt says, excitingly.
"My life's work would be complete." Samuel Holt states. Just as they finish ejecting the final ice sample, rumbling is heard from behind the three astronauts.
"What is that? Seismic activity?" Samuel Holt questions.
"We should get back to the ship." exclaims Shiro. Over the horizon of Kerberos, the three see what looks like an alien ship.
"What is that?" Samuel Holt yells. The front of the massive ship can now be seen. It's intimidating nature would make it so that anyone would be in shock at just the size of the ship.
"Run! Come on, run!" Shiro yells, ushering the two astronauts to sprint. A bright purple light gleams from the massive alien ship, wrecking what major progress they have made on Pluto's moon. Screams of the astronauts can be heard as the light seemed to capture them and hurdle them upwards towards the inside of the ship.
---Shiro's POV---
"Emperor Zarkon," I heard a muffled voice state. "we were scouting System X-9-Y as ordered when we found these primitive scientists." My head was still pounding from the impact, but I managed to open my eyes to see that I was someplace other than the moon Kerberos.
"I don't think they know anything useful." says an unknown creature standing in front of me. He was facing what seemed to be a screen with another unknown being projected onto it.
"Take them back to the main fleet for interrogation." Says the projected being. I turn to face my comrades, but they still seem to be unconscious.
"The druids will find out what they know." I could only think to try to reason with them.
"Please, we come from a peaceful planet! We mean you no harm! We're unarmed!" I shout. Just then I feel a sharp pain hit my back as I lunge forward. I go unconscious. As I fade in and out of consciousness, I can see myself being dragged down a corridor of sorts. One of my comrades, Matthew I believe, was being forced to walk alongside a tall robot-like being. I can see what looks like prisoners peeking from beyond their enclosures.
"Look, they brought in another one." "Who is it?" "Over there. It's another one." I can hear the prisoners whispering. As I am being dragged, I look around to see where exactly I am. Just then I look out a passing window and see what looks like a whole prison complex with multiple floors. No way this shit is actually happening, right?
---Earth- five days later…---
---Alex's POV---
"I got it fixed, try starting the engine!" I say, signaling the "ok" to the pilot.
"Running nice and smoothly!" The pilot yells back. "I'm gonna take it for a test drive." I nod, backing away from the ship. I was one of the only engineers in our class that was actually able to work on ships without careful monitoring from the commander.
"Alex!" yells Keith, running in through the doors with a panicked look on his face. The engineering department of the Galaxy Garrison is in a big garage outside of the main corridor.
"Keith? What's wrong?" I asked, concerned. What was Keith doing here? Shouldn't he be in class?
"So you haven't heard yet?" Keith asks, slightly out of breath. "Heard what?" I question. Whatever it is it can't be that bad, right?
"It's Shiro… The Garrison said they failed the mission. They wouldn't tell me if he died or what but-" Keith stumbled across his words. "No." I reply. "NO. That isn't possible." Shiro is one of the best astro explorers known to man. He was top of his class, one of the youngest to make junior officer, there's just no way something happened.
"I know.. Whatever happened, we'll get to the bottom of it." Keith says "I can break into the Admiral's office and check her computer-"
"No." I respond "You're this close to being kicked out of the program, I don't want you to risk it. Just leave it to me."
"Well, what are you gonna do" he asks. "I don't know yet." I say, looking at the ship I just repaired as it flies overhead.
---One Year Later…---
"Galaxy Garrison flight log 5-11-14. Begin descent to Kerberos for rescue mission." Says Lance McClain, a cadet of the Galaxy Garrison. They were on a training mission to rescue a Lunar Vessel from the planet Kerberos. Lance's dark brown eyes focus on the monitor ahead of him.
Hunk groans "Lance, can you keep this thing straight?" Tsuyoshi "Hunk" Garret is an engineering cadet for the Galaxy Garrison.
"Relax, Hunk, I'm just getting a feel for the stick. I mean, it's not like I did this!" Lance aims the steering wheel upward, making the entire ship unsteady. "Or this!" Lance exclaims, aiming the steering wheel to the left. Hunk groans from his motion sickness.
"Okay, unless you want to wipe puke out of all the little nooks and crannies in this thing, you'd better knock it off, man!" Hunk yells, sweat gathering on his orange bandana.
"We've picked up a distress beacon!" alerted Pidge Gunderson, a communications cadet. She is one of the youngest in her class, at only 17 years old.
"All right, look alive, team! Pidge, track coordinates." Lance states as he starts their descent on Pluto's moon a little harshly. Lance smirks, knowing he'll get backlash from his engineering companion.
"Knock it off, Lance! Please!" Hunk exclaims wearily. You can hear a computer beeping in the background, signaling an error message. Even with a hydraulic stabilizer built into the ship, the ship starts rumbling tremendously.
"Oh, no" Hunk says, sickly. "Oh, no. Fix now, puke later." Lance says dryly.
"I lost contact. The shaking is interfering with our sensors." Pidge states, trying to fix the error messages.
"Come on, Hunk!" Lance turns to face Hunk. "It's not responding." Hunk moans and gets up to fix the sensors.
"Oh, never mind, fellas. Thar she blows." Lance states as he sees the location pop up. "Preparing for approach on visual."
"I don't think that's advisable with our current mechanical and-" Pidge pauses as Hunk throws up into their engineering box. "-gastrointestinal issues…"
"Agreed." says Hunk, hurrying back to his seat.
"Stop worrying, this baby can take it. Can't ya champ?" Lance smirks. "Pidge, hail down to them and let them know their ride is here." As Pidge stands up to broadcast their message, the entire ship rumbles, causing Pidge to fall flat on her face. Her glasses fall off the bridge of her nose.
"Pidge, what are you doing? Buckle your belt. And Hunk, stop that shaking!" Lance says.
"Attention Lunar Vessel, this is Galaxy Garrison Rescue Craft One Victor Six Three Tango. Coming in for landing and extraction-" Pidge states. "-against crew recommendations." she mutters under her breath.
"No time for your mutinous comments now. They're going under and we're going in." Lance smirks, lowering the ship.
"Watch out for that overhang!" Pidge yells, clutching to her seat. Her light brown eyes wide with terror.
"No worries. My first year in flight school, they called me "The Taylor" because of how I thread the needle." Lance laughs, trying to fly the ship through an opening. Unfortunately, Lance ended up crashing into the overhang, losing a wing in the process. "Oh, man." Lance sighs.
The ship's monitor displays a failure message as the three cadets exit the simulated ship.
"Nice work, Taylor" Pidge says with an angry expression on her face.
"Roll out, donkeys. Well, let's see if we can't use this complete failure as a lesson for the rest of you students." States the Commander of the Garrison Regiment. "Shit, if you guys are gonna be this bad individually, at least quit arguing and be able to work in a team! Galaxy Garrison exists to turn cadets like you into the next generation of elite astro explorers. But these kind of mental mistakes are exactly what cost the lives of the men on the Kerberos Mission."
The commander turns towards Lance. "I hope I don't need to remind you that the only reason you're here is that the best pilot in your class had a discipline issue and flunked out. Don't follow in his footsteps."
---Later that Night---
"Lights out in five! Everyone back to their dorms, now." says the commander, parading down the hallway.
"We shouldn't be doing this." Says Hunk, sneaking around the corner. His caramel eyes shifty from nervousness.
"You heard Commander Iverson. We need to bond as a team." Lance smirks, peeking out to see if he has a shot at sneaking through the hallway. "We're going to grab Pidge, hit the town, loosen up, meet some nice girls, maybe-" Lance gets interrupted by the lights getting shut off.
"I'm just saying this here, right now, on the record. This is a bad idea." Hunk says as Lance glares at him. Lance dashes down the hallway without getting seen and Hunk follows swiftly behind him.
"You know, for someone in a space exploration program, you don't have much of a sense of adventure." Lance scoffs.
"All of your little adventures end up with me in the commander's office." Hunk states. Lance peeks through a window to make sure no one was paying attention to him and Hunk running away. They swiftly crawl under the window, but right as they were about to turn the corner, they see Pidge exit her room.
"Where is she going?" asks Lance. The two cadets follow Pidge up to the rooftop of the building, where Pidge had set up a bunch of electronics around her.
"You come up here to rock out?" Lance whispers, lifting up Pidge's headphones. Pidge gasps and turns around to see that her two team members had followed her up to the rooftop.
"Oh, Lance, Hunk. No, um, just looking at the stars." She says, trying to block their view of her computers.
"Where'd you get this stuff? It doesn't look like Garrison tech." Lance says.
"I built it." Pidge says smugly. "With this thing, I can scan all the way to the edge of the solar system."
"That right? All the way to Kerberos?" Lance asks. Pidge gives him a loud sigh. "You go ballistic every time the instructors bring it up. What's your deal? " At this point Pidge looks as if she's holding something back.
"Look, Pidge, if we're gonna bond as a team, we can't have any secrets." Lance scowls.
"Fine. The world as you know it is about to change." Pidge says mysteriously. "The Kerberos Mission wasn't lost because of some malfunction or crew mistake. So, I've been scanning the system and picking up alien radio chatter."
"Whoa. What? Aliens?" Hunk asks. "Okay. So you're insane. Got it." Lance says mockingly, crossing his arms.
Pidge frowns. "I'm serious. They keep repeating one word, "Voltron." And tonight, it's going crazier than I've ever heard it." Pidge picks up and points to her notepad with the word "Voltron" written on it.
"How crazy?" Lance asks. But before Pidge could give an explanation, the emergency alarms start ringing.
The PA system blares. "Attention, students. This is not a drill. We are on lockdown! Security situation Zulu Niner. Repeat: all students are to remain in barracks until further notice."
"What's going on?" Hunk asks concerningly. "Is that a meteor?" Hunk points to the speck of light in the sky. It seemed to be on fire, heading not far from the Galaxy Garrison Headquarters.
Pidge grabs her binoculars out of her bag. "It's a ship." She states, looking out the binoculars. Lance snatches them away from her. "Holy shit! I can't believe what I'm seeing! That's not one of ours."
"No, it's one of theirs." Pidge gasps, falling to her knees. "So, wait. There really are aliens out there?" Hunk asks. Shortly after, the ship zips past them and crashes straight into the canyon by the Garrison HQ. A ball of light surrounding the fallen vessel. The three cadets could see the Galaxy Garrison's shuttles leaving headquarters and rushing towards the ship.
"We've gotta see that ship!" Pidge exclaims running after them. "Hunk, come on." Lance commands, following Pidge.
"Oh, this is the worst team building exercise ever." Hunk groans, running after the two.
