The 'Thing In The Apartment' Breakdown

What Even Is The Thing?

The Thing is a humanoid creature with grey slimy skin and sunken eyes that can see through walls to put its victims in a trance of fear (e.g 1:06 the Thing looking at Leah- the thing in the apartment, always watching and 3:59 night visions with Lindsay) It is unknown of its specific species but. It slinks in the shadows and seems to hate light for a reason. Like when Lindsay shines her phone screen light at the Thing and it backs away in pain, almost (3:15, the thing in the apartment. night visions). Perhaps light is the Thing's weakness and it is written about in the Crypttv Book of Monsters (with the Looksee's, Birch's and Mordeo's + other monsters'). It also has long fingers, which it uses to kill Leah in Night Visions, and a large bow shaped mouth that doesn't seem to close. Furthermore, it does not kill just for food but also out of aggression to people who get in its way. The Thing is extremely fast, but silent, and uses distractions in order to get its victims in the right place at the right time- so it can score the kill. A great example of this at the end of Night Visions, when the Thing makes a bin roll on the pavement noisily to distract Lindsay from it creeping into the passenger seat. As well as the first scene (also in Night Visions) when the Thing was using the darkness to sneak up on Lindsay in its first attempt to kill her.

Why And How Is It Doing This?

For food. It kills Sam, Leah and Sean then eats them. However, with Lindsay after its failed first attempt the Thing appears to be angered or ashamed of its failure and instead of eating her it just kills Lindsay, because of that shame maybe. As previously stated, it creeps in the darkness and hates the light, so it finds 'hunting' for food easier at night when people are asleep, alone and under the cover of darkness. When the Thing kills for food, it does it in 3 specific stages:

Stage 1-

It begins to keep the victim up a night via nightmares, (sleep deprivation) insomnia and the feeling of something staring at them.

Stage 2-

As this state progresses over a few days to a week it leads the victim to lash out, become paranoid but only subtly, so it appears to just be an effect of bad sleep; natural and nothing to question. Also, due to the strange cause of the victim's insomnia they would not want to talk about out of fear of rejection. That internal turmoil will cause the person to become delirious and lead them to the Thing easily as they are unaware of their surroundings.

Stage 3-

Short but not sweet. In the darkness they are killed by the Thing, eaten and as the Thing cannot hide or dispose of bodies because of its inhumane appearance it could be theorised that it eats its victims whole over time.
