DISCLAIMER: I bought these tools with my own money paying full price on Amazon. No one has paid for or coerced my opinion in any way.
Here are two Bradford pear spoons (one symmetric and the other right handed).
I had an online conversation about the quality and usability of certain mass produced tools and the Ukrainian company Hutsuls came up. I said that I own the $20 set that has the 3 knives, gloves, honing compound, strop, and canvas roll-up.
I promised to make a spoon using just that set.
1. This is using a Bradford pear branch that came down in a storm a month or two ago, and has been anchor sealed and sitting in my shed.
2. I put a sharpening on these tools using just w&d sandpaper glued to plywood, and honing compound on leather. They will be meeting the diamond and ceramic plates soon, and I will be adjusting some backs and bevels.
3. The handles are unmodified as are the be els and blade backs.
Here are my findings. They are absolutely worth $20.
The sl枚jd knife is 2-1/4" so it is more like the Mora #120 than the #106. If you hold them side by side the blade looks almost exactly the same.
The spoon hook knife is right handed. It has the sharp point like the old style Mora #164. And I can only assume the strong semi-circular shape is akin to the older style Mora #164 although I don't actually own one of those. So it differs from my current Mora #164's semi-carotoid shape. But it is similar in shape. It is also, a thicker blade material as well.
Thirdly it also includes a detail knife 1-5/8" long and 1/4" wide. This was a new tool to me. It goes around corners quite well.
Overall, all the blades cut well and held their respective edges. Through the two spoons I honed the hook knife about 5 strokes on green and 5 on pink. Tho other blades never felt like they needed it.
All that said the only "con" would be the handles. They are flat with some rounding. Hotspots and blisters. Enough said. Need wrapped or rehandled. :)

The ad said "rough cut cedar left over from project make an offer". I asked "How much do you want?" And they said, "Just come take it, it's all yours!" They had it cut to order a year ago, and since the project finished it's just been sitting. There are 3 6x6x10' and 2 more that are 8 foot and either already cut in half, or mostly cut in half. Then 8 over 12' long 2x4s. It looks like red meat and smells like hamster farts! I had to cut those 12 footers to fit in the wood shed. I don't own a moisture meter but I can only assume they are not fully air dried. Should I paint the ends? Mill it down to smaller sizes? Sticker it? Or just use it and see what happens? Who knew free wood could ever be a problem? It sounds like having too many clamps, right? #maker #diy #cedar #woodworking #woodworker #woodworkersproblems #priceoffreewood https://www.instagram.com/p/Cp-snfXLKqc/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

If you don't think this is the cutest little picnic table ever, then you are probably wrong about a lot of other things too!! :D :) My son and I just finished 3 of them. I don't want to break my arm patting myself on the back, but I am really starting to like the refinements to this design. Not to mention it was quite enjoyable doing it as a project with my son. #cute #toddlerpicnictable #picnictable #toddler #outdoorfurniture #diy #woodworker #woodworking #wood #maker https://www.instagram.com/p/Cp8wDCir9Od/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Second attempt carving a comfort bird. However, this time in cherry! Cherry is also quite satisfying to carve with a sharp sloyd knife. However, many more sharpening trips. So far the #morakniv is cutting well, and just needs some honing to keep going. Not sure when or if this will get sanded. The cut surface isn't too bad. Anyone ever just leave the carved surface as-is without sanding? #sanding #sloyd #carving #comfortbird #maker #woodwork #woodworking #wood #diy #morakniv https://www.instagram.com/p/Cpo2FLhgk1x/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

First attempt carving a comfort bird. Basswood, is quite satisfying to carve with a sharp sloyd knife. Sanding, on the other hand, I only wish I found therapeutic. Middle school shop teacher ruined any possibly enjoyment of sanding for me. Does anyone actually enjoy it? #sanding #sloyd #carving #comfortbird #maker #woodwork #woodworking #wood #diy https://www.instagram.com/p/CpkZLnTrGfz/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

First attempt at a scroll peg head for the prototype dulcimer. First side FAIL! Second side not so bad. ...For a beginner. I need to invest in some more and better gouges. And work in a better wood. But this is a prototype. #maker #diy #woodworking #woodworker #wood #dulcimer #peghead #scroll #luthier https://www.instagram.com/p/CpIqahELQ75/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Feeling out my first attempt at a carved scroll peg head for my dulcimer. I estimated positions for 2 pair of pegs and hollowing. The scroll was drawn mostly freehand with just a tiny bit of help from French curve. However, just to brag the second scroll was done completely freehand just by looking back and forth from side to side. I will likely take a photograph for repeatability since this will actually be part of a prototype build. I am not sure about the pinch angles yet, but for the moment they seem okay. If there are any standards or rules of thumb for them I would appreciate the information. #peghead #scroll #dulcimer #luthier #woodwork #woodworker #woodworking #wood #maker #diy https://www.instagram.com/p/Co8f6jrrB99/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
