Didn't wanna hijack the last post but i just had a realization. My dad used to call me stupid/incompetent a lot growing up (he used "endearing" euphemisms such as pretty empty head, play-doh hands and so on) and i figured out it was mean and unfair pretty early on but i was todays years old when i made the correlation with the fact that IT WAS LITERALLY HIS JOB TO MAKE ME SMART AND COMPETENT. Like he was directly responsible for educating me??? Why was he mocking my lack of education? So yeah, people who make fun of your knowledge while being / having been directly responsible of giving you knowledge suck an extra layer of irony

i mentioned to my family that my partner (who is brazilian and is still learning romanian and about our culture) asked me about avram iancu and tudor vladimirescu because 2 streets next to his are named like that

and one of my uncles (whom i used to adore and was a paternal figure to me and very present in my life) asked me "were you even able to answer him? do you even know it yourself?"

and the smugness in his voice and that disgusting smirk... this is the man who took me to the history olimpiad many times, saw me my whole childhood carry conversation with my grandpa on history, was friends with my history teacher from high school and had the same history teacher i had in middle school and knows I've had one of the highest scores at bac because my other aunt (former history teacher) gave me extra material to study from

also... I occasionally teach history to my pupils...

but some middle aged man can undermine my intelligence because spending 16h in front of TV automatically makes you more intelligent

Made a post on a facebook romanian/english translation group about looking for a translator (second soarers book) and 8 people contacted me. Gave them all a sample to translate and this one guy went "said she" instead of "she said" in dialogue tags. Just... the confidence to think you can professionally translate a whole book when you're still confused about dialogue 101. wow

Patetic (the romanian linguistic buddy of the english pathetic) means "passionate, which can move you emotionally or impress you; full of emphasis, of affectation"

my favorite thing is when words are identical between two languages but their meanings are slightly to the left of each other. like raisin! it means grape in french, but in english it only means grape specifically if it's dried. makes me giggle

anyone know more words like this?

i think the way tiktok and tumblr (yes i am unifying these two sites together for this, for shame!) talk about autism and adhd (n honestly ocd too) as this quirky party trick has really damaged The Youths, at least in america (n they enact that damage on the rest of us, per usual)

like you guys will CONTINUE as usual to mock n harass anyone who is slightly "weird" or "offputting" bc well YOURE autistic and YOU dont do that, so it must be a them problem. well, YOU live on your own and YOU have a job and YOU have tons of friends and YOU go to uni and YOU go to the club and YOU arent weird. its not an "autism thing", this persons just weird. weird for being a picky eater, for using scripts in conversations, for avoiding crowded places n having meltdowns while in them, for living w their parents or in assisted living, for going on about their special interests, for missing social ques, for speaking "weird", for stimming, for having little or no friends, for being unemployed, for having motor issues, for being nonverbal, for not being able to handle the school/academy system, for being autistic.

THEYRE clearly just weird, THEYRE wrong for exhibiting signs and symptoms of autism. their autism is WRONG and WEIRD and OFFPUTTING. YOURE autistic and YOU dont do that, so its clearly "not about autism".
