Everyone else when they’re undercover during a con: *just standing around* *miming the actions of the job they’re supposed to be doing* “What supervisor, there’s a very valid reason I’m not doing my job, I, uh……”
Eliot freaking Spencer: Guys stop the crime for a minute I have to go deliver these pizzas. I have to plate 300 hors-d'œuvres by 7:00. Get out of my way I have to go build a house with my bare hands.

I often think about that post that was a fake dating profile for a cat that was all about chickens, like wanting someone with posable thumbs for opening chickens.

Honestly pokemon is the ideal universe not just because there’s cute animals that are your life companions, but because they have walkable cities and adequate biking infrastructure

life is weird because one minute you're 13 wondering if you'll ever see the age of 18 and the next you're 28 and excited to go shopping for lamps

I saw an anniversary screening of Alien today. I lost my father two weeks ago.
Aliens was more or less the first film I saw knowing it was a film. Not because I was told beforehand, but because a single father thought his toddler was asleep until a little voice eventually declared “daddy, those buggies are scary.” He scrambled to pull out the HR Giger books and explain movie magic to me and things were never quite the same.
The buggies aren’t scary anymore, but I was thrilled by every cut (but the sloppy jump cut from the prop head to Ian Holmes…) and lived in, kind of grimy set. There was a charm to every behind-the-scenes tidbit I recalled and I was tickled thinking of my fellow movie goers also remembering the things mentioned in the interview between Scott and Alvarez that played before the screening (such as the filming of the miniature or the use of his children in the space suits). I delighted in every quiet gasp and exclamation from the woman behind me.
I was utterly enraptured.
And I was thinking of him every minute.
There are no fathers here (a MU/TH/UR, of course, and maybe there are some musings to be had about the patriarchal, but Not Today, Satan), but there are memories all over it. Countless times watching the whole series as a child. Stealing his Alien comics because I thought they were cool. Being the only six year old absolutely hyped about Alien Resurrection coming out. Sitting and rewatching it a year and a half ago while laughing at Jonesy (a picture book retelling the movie from the point of view of the cat) as I sewed patches on a Ripley costume.
This wasn’t Aliens, but it felt fitting to make it my first theater experience by myself after his death. A memory, a bookend, a beginning.
God, I will miss him.

When people get a little too gung-ho about-
wait. cancel post. gung-ho cannot be English. where did that phrase come from? China?
ok, yes. gōnghé, which is…an abbreviation for “industrial cooperative”? Like it was just a term for a worker-run organization? A specific U.S. marine stationed in China interpreted it as a motivational slogan about teamwork, and as a commander he got his whole battalion using it, and other U.S. marines found those guys so exhausting that it migrated into English slang with the meaning “overly enthusiastic”.
That’s…wild. What was I talking about?
