Note
this might be a silly question, but how do you find/organize reference to study from?
Not silly! Even after all these years of drawing I still struggle to find references.
For value and portrait studies, I create them myself using Portrait Studio. But you can find decent ones on google or pinterest.
Tumblr media
For gesture drawing and figure drawing, I used the free site Quickposes before switching over to a desktop program called GestureDrawing!, with references from Proko (free when you sign up for his newsletter at the bottom of his webpage), DeviantArt (free ones like these and these) and other ones I find on google images.
Tumblr media
As for organisation, I just shove them all in a folder called “Art Refs” and pray I’ll be able to find them later.

Her toes, bare in her foot wraps, dug into the points between stones, propelling her out of his office, her gait determined and speed showing her desire to get the fuck out of there. What demon had possessed her? Had caused her to go from hiding, timid mouse to roaring, snarling bear in the heat of her emotional confusion. She needed sense to be made of her mind right now, and she wasn't sure if she could afford to go and ask Cole for his input - more confusion could hardly improve her hysterical condition. After a pony shake of her head, wrestling her inner dialogue away from her thoughts for a moment, she found that was at least going towards her quarters via the rotunda. She might not be able to find her answers in her quarters, but she'd at least be able to hide her shame there. How she was going to face him at the morning war room meet, she had no idea.
Shameful Need
It was shameful - begging the leader of her forces to consider her as something more, more than colleagues, more than friends. She just wanted more, she needed… Something. She hoped it was as simple as needing to fuck out her frustration, her loneliness, but she knew damn well that that wasn’t what had carried her - usually deft - feet stomping up to Cullen’s tower this evening.
She’d seen the way he was around her compared to other women around the keep, his voice dipped into a lower register for her, softened for her; his eyes, though usually placed carefully and obviously not on her own eyes, sometimes betrayed him and she could only describe it as a gaze, one that set her heart trembling in anticipation of what, she wasnt sure.
“What does this damned war have to do with this? What is fighting it for if we can’t even let ourselves… live, Commander!?” Pleading laced her exasperation far heavier than she’d hoped, and heat rose from her collar as she stubbornly ripped her pitiful eyes from Cullen to drill holes into the stone of his office floor.
She wanted to say that she knew how he looked at her, treated her differently, she wanted to be /sure/, but the unfortunate choice of hers - to practically barge in unannounced and practically demand answers - didn’t seem to be working in her nor anyone else’s favour. Her shame turned to mortification as it ricocheted in the tendrils of her nerves, sharp and hot. “Forget I came here. As you were, Commander.”

Shameful Need
It was shameful - begging the leader of her forces to consider her as something more, more than colleagues, more than friends. She just wanted more, she needed... Something. She hoped it was as simple as needing to fuck out her frustration, her loneliness, but she knew damn well that that wasn't what had carried her - usually deft - feet stomping up to Cullen's tower this evening. She'd seen the way he was around her compared to other women around the keep, his voice dipped into a lower register for her, softened for her; his eyes, though usually placed carefully and obviously not on her own eyes, sometimes betrayed him and she could only describe it as a gaze, one that set her heart trembling in anticipation of what, she wasnt sure. "What does this damned war have to do with this? What is fighting it for if we can't even let ourselves... live, Commander!?" Pleading laced her exasperation far heavier than she'd hoped, and heat rose from her collar as she stubbornly ripped her pitiful eyes from Cullen to drill holes into the stone of his office floor. She wanted to say that she knew how he looked at her, treated her differently, she wanted to be /sure/, but the unfortunate choice of hers - to practically barge in unannounced and practically demand answers - didn't seem to be working in her nor anyone else's favour. Her shame turned to mortification as it ricocheted in the tendrils of her nerves, sharp and hot. "Forget I came here. As you were, Commander."

She's a very agreeable little thing who's very reserved, but when shit goes down she will chomp down. Hard. She's a baby rift mage, because she really loves this place she calls home and will do everything she can possibly do to make the inquisition as strong as it can possibly be. Please write with her! She's looking for friends and... And ex-templars. Well, a specific blond ex-templar. Message me if you're interested, or throw an ask her way if you're curious about her!

Miss Rosie-Posie
Name: Rosala Lavellan
Age: 22
Height: 5'0" smol.
Class: Rift mage.
Magic Style: Practical with few flourishes that she attributes to the fact that she can’t dance. She focuses on healing and electricity.
Place of Birth: Denerim Alienage, fled to Clan Lavellan when she started showing her abilities.
Voice: Decidedly Ferelden-y
Vallaslin: Sylaise - little miss Domesticity. Will babysit for free.
Beliefs: Predominantly The Maker, the revered mother that usually came through the Denerim alienage had a way with children and boy did Ro love the attention and gentle voice. She never quite made that switch when her family joined the clan.
Personality:
Reserved around most people and very suspicious of intentions.
Slow to anger with the patience of a revered mother.
Doesn’t really count herself as a true adult, simply because of her low opinion of her ability to adult in the human world that she’s been forced into. She misses being home for the simple fact that she knew she was good at being
Brave but will jump out of her skin when she accidentally trips over a nug.
Very rarely swears.
Enjoys looking after the kiddies, they seem to ‘get’ her easier than adults do. Probably because she’s secretly the owner of a serious fun streak that she doesn’t quite have the nerve to reveal to ‘grown ups’ - they really don’t need more of a reason to lack respect for her.
Relies heavily on her gut instincts but that doesn’t mean she’s quick to make final plans on them quickly. She observes and deliberates for a little longer than necessary for fear of making a bad decision.
Feels guilt easily. Very easily. This inquisition business is… hard. All those people…
