It can be so confusing to have a lot of your emotional wants and needs overlap with things you are likely to get from a new romantic relationship when you don’t want that kind of relationship.

I want to meet a new person I really connect with, I want to feel desired, I want to feel taken care of. I don’t want romantic (and sexual) commitment and responsibility to one person. But my wants can, on the surface, seem like I want to find somebody to date.

And so I have to have an introspective self-talk every week when I get really lonely to figure out what I actually want in practice. (And it’s never a romantic partner. It’s more irl friends, it’s meeting a super artsy enby to have sleepovers with where we talk about art and spirituality until 3 am, it’s improving my self-image issues, it’s getting to cuddle a friend for 2 days straight, it’s non-romantic love.)

The more I've been meeting trans women online the more that I'm realizing like... Why we share so many little threads. The whole "all trans women are the same" jokes are funny as bits but also. Like.

The heavy lean into petplay because existing in a world that hates us is too much, and it's so much easier to just let go and be an animal than to keep being a human that gets attacked. The lean into fauxcest to build a family that loves you unconditionally, family members who will provide for you without judgement. Paraphilia in general is so popular because we're so ostracized from society at large and even queer culture at large, to the point where we bond with the strange and downtrodden and realize we have more in common than we thought.

Trans women are teaching me new ways to love. New ways to *live*. Some transmasc and non-binary people too, of course, as is always the case, but like. We have a shared identity, not even necessarily through upbringing or similar interests, but due to the way we're treated like shit by everyone. We're demonized together and it does nothing but galvanize us and make us stronger.

We are forged in fire, together. Brothers and sisters, across the world, bound by a need to survive, and coming out the other side by loving each other so much that we're bursting with it.

we should hype up bottom surgery more i think. both twitter transphobes and chronically online trans people really like to be disgusted at phalloplasty, vaginoplasty, ext. and i really think we should treat them as cool and sexy and neutral like top surgery scars or whatever

So, my spouse has been exploring his gender lately; he also just built himself a new laptop. Today he told me that he in an attempt to process some genderfeels through metaphor, he made a post on a trans forum along the lines of: "I'm a lifelong Windows user and I think I'm pretty good at it. I want to find out what Linux has to offer but I'm afraid I wouldn't be any good at it. And how do you choose the right Linux distro, anyway? Do you have to try them all?"

The responses, he said, were a mix of useful advice about feeling out your gender and useful advice about choosing a Linux distro.
