That's right, folks! It's time for the Transgender Swag in Books tournament!

Rules:

Only submit one character per form. However, feel free to submit as many forms as you want :)

No Harry Potter characters or real life people

If you submit a character, please send me any official art they may have. If they don't have any official art, then don't worry about it

When submitting characters from a book series, please provide both the name of the series as well as the name of the book the character first appears in

Don't submit the same character twice

Can I submit a comic book character?

Yes! Comic book characters and manga characters are both allowed.

Are nonbinary characters allowed?

Yes! Any character that falls under the transgender umbrella can be submitted.

Are non-canon trans characters allowed?

Yes! Any character you think is trans, whether canon or not, is allowed!

How do I send you official art?

Just drop it in my ask box

What if a character doesn't have official art?

Then one of three things will happen. Either one of you draws art that you allow me to use in the tournament (with credit), you receive permission from another artist for their art to be used in the tournament (with credit), or I will use the cover of the first book that character appears in.

Haha, glad to see I am not the only one who thought about Ange!

It's an obvious choice. She *is* the sadness. She invented the sadness! This is one of her defining traits.

That contrasts with other girls (that I love btw) where we discover their depression/sadness/trauma as story goes on.

For Ange, the second scene she appears she jumps off a building (she survived btw because she made a contract with a witch). And then we got to explore her backstory and ooh boy. We only get to understand the depth of her solitude, her bullying, her coping mechanisms, her hopelessness, etc.

She only finds happiness at the very end of the story.

Please vote for her, because her story really affected me. She was my companion during my depression. I struggle to listen to two musics of the game (Wingless and Mystic Forest) because these musics trigger strong emotions in me.

Kobeni Higashiyama: Forced by her parents into a profession with an extremely high body count to pair for other people's stuff. Walking ball of anxiety and panic.

Drusilla: (tw: sexual assault) Had *visions* and a good heart so a vampire decided to destroy her. In the guise of a priest he told her she was an evil abomination, then stalked her & killed her entire family. When she retreated to a convent he killed all the nuns there and was implied to have SA’ed her, driving her mad. In a universe where vampires only have a conscience when they own a “soul”, she explicitly still mourns her family. While the show gives every other member of the Whirlwind (group of 4 key vampires from the show, including Drusilla) gets a soul/redemption, including her implied rapist, she never gets peace in any way

Saddness: She is the embodiment of the emotion Sadness. She just wants love and recognition as anyone would. Ignore her at your own peril.

Clarith: (tw: genocide) She's lived in this insular village, where she's mocked and belittled for being part of the Netsuma clan (as she has white hair). She starts her song (Daughter of White/ Bystander) by apologizing for being alive. The only person she has to support her is her adoptive mother, who is fatally ill. Eventually, a woman appears in the village, and Clarith nurses her back to health, and she becomes her only friend after Clarith's mother dies. However, the village still despises Clarith, so the two run off together to the capital of their country. While working as maids, Clarith's friend catches the eye of a foreign king, who proceeds to annul his engagement to the neighboring kingdom's princess. Because the princess only knows a vague description of what Clarith's friend looks like (the friend has green hair), she orders a genocide of Clarith's country. As a Netsuma, Clarith is spared, but her only friend is killed in the war. With nothing left to live for, her old employers try to help her get back on her feet at a monastery. At the very least, she's comforted by the knowledge that the princess who started the war was executed after a revolution. Some time later, she finds a girl who has passed out near the monastery, and nurses her back to health. Despite the girl's standoffish and selfish nature, the two become friends and Clarith teaches the girl how to contribute with the chores and looking after the orphans. One night, Clarith is looking for a lost hair tie when she notices that the confessional booth is in use. The occupant is the girl that Clarith rescued, who has started to truly grow into life at the monastery. The child who is starting to develop her own skills and an appreciation for herself and others. The occupant is the tyrant who started the war that killed her friend. Overcome by rage, Clarith follows the girl outside, to the ocean. The girl's back is turned, from Clarith's pocket is a dagger. She doesn't remember having a dagger, but what does it matter? With just one swing, the story will be over. Clarith's country will be avenged. Clarith's dear friend will be avenged. Yet, she can't bring herself to kill a lonely child. Clarith and the girl come to an agreement. If the girl truly wants to repent for her actions, she will need to work and live for it.
