What I love so much about "No Longer You" is the amount of foreshadowing, and how much this song and this knowledge seals the fates of the characters.
I am willing to be that Odysseus knowing that one of his men, one of his "brothers," ends up betraying him causes him to distrust them all and rule with ruthlessness, which leads to more deaths and to Eurylochus finally having enough and, inevitably, betraying Odysseus.
I'm also sure that Odysseus latches onto the fact he gets home and does reckless and risky things along the way, because hey, the prophet said he makes it home. Never mind that he also says he dies

“And if I gotta drop another infant from a wall in an instant so we all don’t DIE -“
There is NO hesitation here. There’s not even hesitation to breathe. He says it in one breath. And he says it with grit. With power. With certainty. His voice is sharp. His voice is strong. His voice is rough. His voice is quick. His words are short, crisp and clear. He is not singing. This line is not meant to be “pretty” (to me, many of Ody’s lines, thanks to Jay’s softer vocals, are pretty sounding). The lyrics on their own reflect this too, because he says he would drop the infant in an INSTANT.
This is not the Odysseus who would sing an entire lullaby full of guilt to an infant. This is not the Odysseus who would offer to raise a child to avoid fate. This is not the Odysseus that would attempt to soothe a baby, who would compare the infant to his own son, who would hold it, and cradle it, before making a heart wrenching choice to throw it over a wall - after bargaining with Zeus for ANY other option. This is not the Odysseus that would enter the Underworld “thinking of the infant from that night” even, from only two songs before.
This is an Odysseus no one knows, not even himself.
“So WHAT if I’m the monster?”
This Odysseus does not CARE. He is getting home. He is going to do whatever he has to. Whatever it takes. No matter how cruel, how merciless. He’s daring others to doubt him and his choices. So WHAT if he’s the monster? He has to be. He is getting his remaining men home. He is getting himself home, above all else.

god listening to the underworld hurts so much more after learning that “fun” fact (genuinely it’s so sweet oh my god but i’m using humor to cope)
“i took too long. I ventured too far while you were waiting”
“I’ll always love you”

I hate to say it, but Polites' death was even sadder than I first thought. Not only did he, Odysseus's best friend, die a horrible death, but his beliefs died with him. His song was all about convincing Odysseus to great the world with open arms, to be kind to his foes, but his death causes Odysseus to not only abandon those beliefs, but move in the complete opposite direction.
This is reinforced by "No longer you", with Tiresias telling Odysseus that the man who returns home isn't him anymore. That's because the old Odysseus, the one who believed in kindness and open arms, died with Polites, but the new Odysseus from "Monster" who believes in ruthlessness, in making it home no matter the cost, survives. He doesn't just become the monster, he destroys the other parts of him who believed what Polites did. In other words, Open arms Ody dies, but Ruthlessness is mercy Ody lives.
Sorry for the ramble but those are just my thoughts and interpretation of the Underworld Saga.

Polites died believing that the world is kind, and yet his death contributes to Odysseus deciding to become a monster. Absolutely devastating

"Odysseus when you come home, I'll be waiting. Even if you're the last thing I see, I'll be waiting."
"I'm right here, Mom. Can't you see I'm waiting? ...I took too long."
Jay, come here a second. I would like to have a word about why I'm silently bawling my eyes out at 1am because of Anticlea saying she will always love her son whom she died waiting for.
