like, had anyone there met any British people in their life? Number 1. English. What you mean is English. A Scottish accent is vastly different from an English accent, and I really don’ t think they’d appreciate being lumped in with us.

Small tangent out of the way, while “What we currently coin as a British accent developed in England during the 19th century among the upper class as a symbol of status” could be true (it sounds exactly like what classist assholes would do to stop being associated with the lower class) there are different accents in different parts of England. As someone with a disgustingly posh English accent, if I went to Liverpool, our accents would be totally different, and distinctly NOT American, so unless every single English person decided to fake a region specific accent, then yeah, this is complete bs

just remembered that time last year when my younger brother exclusively watched youtube roblox mini-movies about a class war between the lower-class bacon-hairs and the upper-class anyone else (bc in roblox the default avatar has “bacon hair” and you need to buy any other hair) and it was set to dramatic music (you could put it over d-day footage i swear) and for some reason there was always a bacon-hair who pretended to be rich so they wouldnt be oppressed, an angry bacon-hair father who turns out to be part of the rebellion, a traitorous commander (on either side) and the protagonist narrowly escaping being killed with their family by the state because they were hanging out with a love interest

I don’t understand a lot of things about anything, really, but I think when a child has to call a helpline because of her constant panic attacks, a girl has to hide her neurodivergence so she doesn’t get bullied and 9 yr olds wear concealer in fear of being called ugly, I think at that point, we fucked up.
