J.R.R. Tolkien reads from The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, 1952
This is J.R.R. Tolkien reading—and singing!—excerpts from The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and it is exactly as amazing as it sounds. George Sayer, a friend of Tolkien’s, helped make the recordings while Tolkien was visiting him in August 1952, two years before The Lord of the Rings was published. (It doesn’t have that information under the youtube videos, but I was able to find out the context from Tolkien Gateway and the Tolkien Library.) These are so wonderful and I’m so glad they exist! It’s absolutely delightful to hear the Professor reading his own stories. You have not lived until you have heard Tolkien’s Gollum impression, or his Treebeard voice, or him speaking in Elvish…not to mention reading The Ride of the Rohirrim! Yes, he actually recorded that and it is literally the best thing ever. It’s amazing to listen to him reciting the Song of Beren and Lúthien (just like Strider told it to the hobbits!), and everything else, and I’m so, so, so glad that these recordings were made. This is a treasure trove! I want more people to know about this!

Joey and Salvatore have been missing from The Amelia Project for a while and I feel like the funniest thing the TAP crew could have done is get them the smallest cameos in other podcasts while they’re gone. Just imagine some random Italian argument happening in the background of Midnight Burger, or two Italians broke into Mama Gabe’s for some pie, or these Catholic boys needed to go to confession at St. Paul’s Cathedral.
Just play it off as them being lost and trying to find their way home. Hilarious.

Happy Easter Monday, to those who celebrate. And to those who do not, I hope you had a good holiday regardless. To celebrate the occasion, here is my next Audio Fiction I Love article!
In Universe City, things are very, very wrong. Radio Silence — not their real name — is desperately trying to keep hope alive.
Here's the show's description:
The internetionally-celebrated web podcast series follows students of Universe City as they discover the City's secrets, faults and hypocrisies, as narrated by the one person who does not want to be there — the enigmatic Radio Silence. Each podcast runs for 20—25 minutes and is available on YouTube.

Gee, I thought these people were the ones who were like “If you don’t like it, you can just move to a blue state.”
And now they’re mad the guy is doing just that?
You can’t oppress and discriminate against someone then be mad when they take their highly useful skill elsewhere.

I have a theory that my inability to get to the store when I want to go has a serious impact on my quality of life, so here's a question
If you needed something unexpectedly, can you get to the store without help? Does that matter to your quality of life?
Help is whatever makes you feel not independent - ie. i consider a taxi help, but not a bus because i retain my independence when taking a bus but feel like i'm asking for help when i taxi. It might be different for you.
also if anyone has any info on this, like essays or articles by disabled authors or academics I'd love to hear about it.
please share I want a lot of data!

So it turns out, they do know and they are suffering.
Some of the models whose photos are used by bots are very elegant. I hope they don't suffer with the knowledge that their image has been stolen. I hope they can reclaim their identity and I can befriend them.
