hello psychotic tumblr! im a soon to be student of speech language pathology (as in applying to grad school for it as we speak) who is also schizoaffective. so a huge interest of mine is language and disorganized and disordered language in mental illness. so i made this research project! i’ll put the link in the reblogs because you know how tumblr is with links. but its looking at how different psychotic disorders (schizophrenia vs major depression with psychotic disorders for example) present different aspects of disorganized speech (slow speech versus word salad or nonsense sentences) and seeing what major data patterns come up. if you are psychotic PLEASE take a minute and take it for me and then pass it around. thank you so much!

anyways SHOUTS OUT to my fellow mentally ill people with homicidal thoughts/urges, aggressiveness, bursts of anger, low empathy that results in rudeness, violent thoughts and fantasies and other """evil""" symptoms that everyone thinks we should hide or be condemned for. we are SO sexy <3

every post on destigmatizing schizophrenia seems to have the qualifier of "as long as they're seeking treatment" "as long as they're medicated" "as long as they're not actively in a psychotic episode" like, no. in all of those situations schizophrenic people are still worthy of respect and compassion.

i cannot make this any clearer to apsychotic people and people who don't experience paranoid psychosis: one of the WORST things you can do for paranoid psychotic people is try to give a reality check unprompted. reality checks ARE a very useful tool when used correctly, but if i don't know you or trust you implicitly and you attempt to reality check me, i will simply assume you're in on whatever delusion i'm experiencing. it's literally that simple. you are not able to reality check me or any other stranger because you are not inherently a trustworthy source. attempts to give reality checks completely unprompted, for many psychotic people, just solidifies the delusion
this includes posts that say shit like "no one is reading your mind right now. your thoughts are your own" "no one is watching you right now" etc. if you reblog that sort of thing as an apsychotic person untagged you are not an ally to ANY psychotic person who has chronic and/or easily triggered psychosis. chances are, when you put that on my dash, i most likely WASN'T in that moment thinking someone was reading my thoughts. but you put a mention of mindreading on my dash completely untagged and NOW i sure as fuck am. and if i WAS already thinking that someone was reading my thoughts, some rando telling me otherwise is not gonna help ground me or bring me back to reality. unless it's coming from myself or from a specific trustworthy person who has permission to give me a reality check, that reality check is only gonna make me more paranoid, and i know this is the case for many other psychotic people as well
i've seen some people claim that reality checks are never helpful, and that's definitely not true imo. reality checks are an important part of recovery and symptom management for people with chronic psychosis (people with schizophrenia, for example), but they should ONLY ever be done by the person experiencing the psychosis, or someone who has been granted permission by the person experiencing psychosis. a random reality check on a psychotic person's tumblr dash is quite literally useless and 100% performative

I'll add an image description later but let me *read scribbled writing* stop being schizophrenic through changing my attitude

It's not inherently neurodivergency, I was just talking about times where it is.
Honestly I wish people with neurological disorders and mental illness talking to themselves was more normalized so here’s to people with autism who narrate things! people with adhd who talk out loud to remember stuff! people with tourette’s and tic disorders with verbal tics! people with psychosis who talk to their voices! people with DID who talk to their alters!
If you talk to yourself for any reason you are wonderful and not bad or weird. And if you see someone talking to yourself and think it’s weird? Maybe mind your own business!

[id: a set of three nearly identical images of a pink hand holding a pink heart, over a pastel purple-to-pink gradient background. they are drawn in a simple, slightly pixellated style. each one has pixellated pink text that reads, “psychotic people deserve love,” “psychotic people deserve comfort,” and “psychotic people deserve safety,” in that order. end id.]
made these because i felt down, this cheered me up <3 i am not very good with words but i hope these might cheer up some other psychotic people too ^^

can i get some love for psychotic systems.
psychotic systems who doubt their plurality because of their psychosis.
psychosis systems who are fakeclaimed by others or doubted by proffesionals because of their psychotic symptoms.
psychotic systems where all alters hallucinate, or have delusions.
psychotic systems where one alter takes the brunt, or even all of the symptoms, or only a handful hallucinate or have delusions.
we need more psychotic system appriciation

this is not the first time i’ve been accused of being on drugs for sharing my experience with psychosis. it will not be the last. its the first thing I get asked as a schizoaffective person in crisis. but its fucking tiring to hear. and believe it or not, people with psychosis can be clean. we can be recovered addicts. we can be currently using. we’re people, we’re even more likely to struggle with addiction and to self-medicate. So cool it with the drug jokes - I get it, I talk weird, what I’m saying is odd, how can I be serious? But I am and I still deserve respect and autonomy

Movies and TV likes to stereotype people with schizophrenia by making them horror movie villains or people who do awful things.
People with schizophrenia are NOT evil or scary. They are valuable, wonderful people who struggle with a mental illness.
STOP DEMONIZING SCHIZOPHRENIA.
