The Ricciardo fans don't want to hear this but thos is exactly the kind of mind games I expected.

This is deliberately done to push Ricciardo as an option for RB and justify why they won't take Yuki.

RB 2.0 will do anything to push Ricciardo as soon as possible to RB. They want him to be the internal option to spur the market to get either him or someone as good as Alonso. There is no doubt in my mind that Ricciardo will always get the preferential treatment because he was actually already meant to move up but they couldn't afford it with no proof due to his injury.

There was no reason because Yuki was clearly faster and there were slime chances they could have passed Kevin anyway.

Everything will be deliberately against Yuki this year because it is much easier to downplay Yuki's racing than to make Ricciardo seem great again after the stinker he had with McLaren.

Call me a conspiracy theorist but there is not a bone in my body that has any hope Yuki will ever move up especially now that Tost is gone.
